Book Breast cancer Global quality care

Download or read book Breast cancer Global quality care written by Didier Verhoeven and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-11-19 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing or existing breast cancer centres strive to provide the highest quality care possible within their current financial and personnel resources. Although the basics in diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer are well known, providing, monitoring, and assessing the care offered can be challenging for most sites. Based on the work of the International Congress of Breast Disease Centres, this book provides a comprehensive overview of how to start or improve a breast unit wherever you live. Written by a multidisciplinary team of over 100 experts from 25 countries, it provides a practical guide for how to optimally organise high quality integrated breast cancer care, whilst taking into account the local economics and resources available to different countries. Each component of the care pathway, including imaging, surgery, systemic treatment, nursing, and genetic assessment, is discussed from a theoretical and practical aspect. The authors define targets to strive for, methods to assess care, and key recommendations for how to improve within existing limitations. Finally, the book looks beyond the breast care unit to consider accreditation and certification, emerging technologies, media, and the role of governments. This guide will be valuable for anyone working in the field of integrated breast cancer care, including established breast care experts, those new to the field, and policy makers interested in the social, financial, and political aspects of improving breast care quality.

Book Management of Breast Diseases

Download or read book Management of Breast Diseases written by Ismail Jatoi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-16 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text is intended as a practical guide for physicians and surgeons who treat diseases of the breast, both benign and malignant. Thus, general surgeons, internists, family practitioners, gynecologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and medical oncologists will find this book useful. The management of breast diseases requires a multidisciplinary approach, and this textbook therefore includes the views of a wide range of specialists from throughout the world. Today the treatment of breast diseases is largely predicated on the results of randomized prospective trials. The results of many clinical trials are discussed in detail, and readers will find this book to be a useful guide to the evidence-based treatment of breast diseases. The revised edition provides a comprehensive update of the previous version of the book. Specifically, it contains 2 new chapters: “Molecular Classification of Breast Cancer” and “Breast Cancer Molecular Testing for Prognosis and Prediction”. In addition, since publication of the previous edition, the results of numerous adjuvant systemic therapy and neo-adjuvant systemic therapy trials have been published, and this edition provides a comprehensive overview of these trials and discusses how they have changed the management of breast cancer. Similarly, there have been, in the last few years, important new developments in the local therapy of breast cancer. This edition discusses these new developments and particularly recent developments and controversies concerning the management of the axilla in patients with primary breast cancer. New guidelines with respect to radiotherapy are also reviewed and discussed. Finally, all chapters in the book are thoroughly revised and updated to provide readers with current understanding of the biology and treatment of breast cancer.

Book Improving Breast Imaging Quality Standards

Download or read book Improving Breast Imaging Quality Standards written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2005-09-27 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mammography is an important tool for detecting breast cancer at an early stage. When coupled with appropriate treatment, early detection can reduce breast cancer mortality. At the request of Congress, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioned a study to examine the current practice of mammography and breast cancer detection, with a focus on the FDA's oversight via the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA), to identify areas in need of improvement. Enacted in 1993, MQSA provides a general framework for ensuring national quality standards in facilities performing screening mammography, requires that each mammography facility be accredited and certified, and mandates that facilities will undergo annual inspections. This book recommends strategies for achieving continued progress in assuring mammography quality, including changes to MQSA regulation, as well as approaches that do not fall within the purview of MQSA. Specifically, this book provides recommendations aimed at improving mammography interpretation; revising MQSA regulations, inspections, and enforcement; ensuring an adequate workforce for breast cancer screening and diagnosis; and improving breast imaging quality beyond mammography.

Book Meeting Psychosocial Needs of Women with Breast Cancer

Download or read book Meeting Psychosocial Needs of Women with Breast Cancer written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2004-04-12 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Meeting Psychosocial Needs of Women with Breast Cancer, the National Cancer Policy Board of the Institute of Medicine examines the psychosocial consequences of the cancer experience. The book focuses specifically on breast cancer in women because this group has the largest survivor population (over 2 million) and this disease is the most extensively studied cancer from the standpoint of psychosocial effects. The book characterizes the psychosocial consequences of a diagnosis of breast cancer, describes psychosocial services and how they are delivered, and evaluates their effectiveness. It assesses the status of professional education and training and applied clinical and health services research and proposes policies to improve the quality of care and quality of life for women with breast cancer and their families. Because cancer of the breast is likely a good model for cancer at other sites, recommendations for this cancer should be applicable to the psychosocial care provided generally to individuals with cancer. For breast cancer, and indeed probably for any cancer, the report finds that psychosocial services can provide significant benefits in quality of life and success in coping with serious and life-threatening disease for patients and their families.
