Book Final Report on Assessment of Crude Oil and Refined Petroleum Product Quality During Long Term Storage

Download or read book Final Report on Assessment of Crude Oil and Refined Petroleum Product Quality During Long Term Storage written by L. L. Stavinoha and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is national policy to develop a strategic petroleum reserve of up to one billion barrels of crude oil and refined petroleum products to lessen U.S. vulnerability to the effects of a severe petroleum supply interruption. A four-task program was undertaken to assist in ensuring that products being considered for long-term storage would remain of a quality immediately usable and to identify likely quality assurance procedures. This report summarizes the results of this work. The first task reviewed and assessed the state-of-the-art in crude and petroleum product storage. The second task investigated the effect of storage on the quality of finished products. The third task developed a DOE/SPRO computer-based search capability for crude oil characterization data. The fourth and final program task consisted of an overall assessment of long-term fuel storage, including recommendations for product specifications intended for storage, and test methodology for monitoring selecting product quality. Book Quality Assurance in Spectroscopic Analysis of Petroleum Products and Lubricants

Download or read book Quality Assurance in Spectroscopic Analysis of Petroleum Products and Lubricants written by R. A. Kishore Nadkarni and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quality assurance (QA) has been a fact of life in virtually all chemical processes and industries for many decades. Quality is an ingrained attitude, the results of which have a positive impact on all operations. Production of quality data does not occur automatically and is not guaranteed by following any one procedure or even several established procedures. It needs dedicated effort, careful attention to details, and practice of recognized principles of quality assurance.

Book Handbook of Petroleum Analysis

Download or read book Handbook of Petroleum Analysis written by James G. Speight and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 2001-04-18 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A clear presentation of the various aspects of petroleum analysis Petroleum exhibits a wide range of physical properties. Numerous tests have been and continue to be developed to provide an indication of the means by which a particular feedstock should be processed. An initial inspection of the nature of petroleum provides deductions about the most logical means of refining and classifying. Handbook of Petroleum Analysis is a single, comprehensive source that describes the application and interpretation of data resulting from various test methods for petroleum feedstocks and products. The need for the application of analytical techniques to petroleum has increased over the past three decades due to changes in feedstock composition. Handbook of Petroleum Analysis deals with the various aspects of petroleum analysis while providing a detailed explanation of the necessary standard tests and procedures that are applicable to feedstocks. The material also reviews the application of new methods for determining instability and incompatibility, focusing on the analytical methods related to environmental regulations. Most importantly, the book provides details of the meanings of the various test results and how they might be applied to predict feedstock behavior. Where pertinent, new tests that are not yet accepted as standardized are described. Topics covered in Handbook of Petroleum Analysis include: ? Chemical composition ? Physical, thermal, electrical, and optical property testing methods ? Spectroscopic, chemical, fractionation, and chromatographic methods ? Molecular weight ? Use of the data (i.e., mapping and predictability) Handbook of Petroleum Analysis promotes a better understanding of the criteria affecting the quality of petroleum and petroleum products and is a valuable resource for chemists and engineers in the refining industry.

Book Product Analysis and Quality Control

Download or read book Product Analysis and Quality Control written by N. S. Murthy and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quality assurance of products is one of the must have attributes in any business transaction. Crude oil and other petroleum-based products are exchanged throughout the world and ensuring quality of supply, analysis, and quality control are of paramount importance to customers and suppliers. The importance of product analysis, significance of sampling and testing, precision limits, repeatability and reproducibility of various test methods, use of online QMIs (quality measuring instruments), system in place for effective quality control, laboratory referee method, conflict resolution in quality assurance, cost of poor quality, et cetera are dealt with in this chapter. Wherever needed, case studies pertaining to quality control and product testing have been inserted to enlighten readers. There are instances of near litigation between customers and suppliers arising from poor understanding of test procedures. Furthermore, refiners have developed their own proprietary correlations/inferential predictions from process conditions and past laboratory analysis and deployed them successfully in process control operations, and in turn quality consistency. These are also touched on so as to widen the learning base of the reader in the field of quality control, which in turn facilitates enhancement of the bottom line. Last but not the least, the challenges faced by oil industries today from the vagaries of crude quality and supply, as well as pressures for cleaner fuels and environment are also highlighted.
