Book The Feasibility of Embedding Skill Qualification Testing Software in One Or More Six Weapons Systems

Download or read book The Feasibility of Embedding Skill Qualification Testing Software in One Or More Six Weapons Systems written by Charles H. Frye and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previous research has validated the concept of Embedded Training (ET) by installing a powerful, machine transportable Computer Assisted Instructional (CAI) authoring language and software system known as PLANIT (Programming LANguage for Interactive Teaching) on the Field Artillery's Tactical Fire Direction Computer System (TACFIRE). Subsequent research demonstrated that the same hardware and software could be used for the administration of an embedded Skill Qualification Test (SQT). The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of transferring ET and embedded SQT technology to existing Army Air Defense Weapons Systems. Six Air Defense Weapons systems were examined: TSQ-73, HAWK, FAAR, PATRIOT, ROLAND, and DIVAD. In general, the results indicated that it would be impractical to attempt to run PLANIT on any of the air defense weapons computers, but that PLANIT could be run on an adjunct computer and be made to satisfy the training/testing needs by using a fabricated terminal very similar to the authentic one. The development of such a prototype for an off-line embedded SQT capability could be produced for one of the selected Air Defense systems in a short time and for a relatively low cost. If successful, the resulting technology would have application not only to existing systems, but to new Air Defense systems to come into the inventory in the 1980's. (Author).

Book Training Circular TC 3 09 8 Fire Support and Field Artillery Certification and Qualification Change 1 July 2020

Download or read book Training Circular TC 3 09 8 Fire Support and Field Artillery Certification and Qualification Change 1 July 2020 written by United States Government Us Army and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-02 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This United States Army manual, Training Circular TC 3-09.8 Fire Support and Field Artillery Certification and Qualification Change 1 July 2020, provides the standards for implementing a Field Artillery (FA) Certification and Qualification Program which incorporates all components of the FA System within each FA formation at Battalion (BN) and below to include the Fire Support Elements which reside within all Brigade Combat Teams. This TC applies to all FA BNs whether in a Brigade Combat Team, Field Artillery Brigade or separate unit. The objective of the TC is to provide the basic requirements which will result in a safe, technically and doctrinally grounded, task oriented certification and qualification plan which trains our Teams, Crews, Cells, Sections, Platoons, Batteries, and Battalions to provide accurate fires to supported commanders. Field Artillery System requires integrating functions or tasks performed by the critical elements of the unit to provide timely and accurate fires. The Artillery Tables I-VI provide the commander with a systematic means of training, certifying and qualifying sections/crews/teams that are critical to the solution of the gunnery problem. The tables provide training from Military Occupational Specialty qualified individual tasks (Artillery Tables I) through collective training at the FA battalion level (Artillery Tables XVIII). The FA tables provide FA leaders and Soldiers with the "what" and "how" to train utilizing materials that are standard across the Army. This TC provides a training strategy to help all FA units to become as accurate and responsive as possible given any condition in any environment. All FA units strive to achieve first round fire for effect. In order to accomplish this goal an artillery unit must compensate for nonstandard conditions as completely as time and the tactical situation permit. There are five requirements for achieving accurate first-round fire for effect. These requirements are accurate target location and size, accurate firing unit location, accurate weapon and ammunition information, accurate meteorological information, and accurate computational procedures. If these requirements are met, the firing unit will be able to deliver accurate and timely fires in support of the maneuver commander. If the requirements for accurate fire cannot be met completely, the firing unit may be required to use adjust-fire missions to engage targets. Adjust-fire missions can result in reduced effect on the target, increased ammunition expenditure, and greater possibility that the firing unit will be detected by hostile target acquisition assets.

Book Blazing skies Air Defense Artillery on Fort Bliss 1940 2009

Download or read book Blazing skies Air Defense Artillery on Fort Bliss 1940 2009 written by and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is an authoritative history on the Army Air Defense Artillery Branch on Fort Bliss, Texas. Fort Bliss in 1940 was a cavalry post located on the Texas border. The post itself occupied the sixth location of what had been called Fort Bliss. In the summer of 1940 a number of Army National Guard antiaircraft regiments were called to active duty to spend one year protecting American cities and territories from air attack. In September the first antiaircraft regiment, the 202nd Coast Artillery (Antiaircraft) Regiment, arrived at Fort Bliss. Over the next four years the post became an antiaircraft training center and finally the Army antiaircraft training center. After the war, Fort Bliss became the premier guided missile testing and training center for the Army. All of the Nike missile battalions deployed to protect American cities during the Cold War trained there. As time passed, Fort Bliss expanded to 1.1 million acres, one of the largest Army posts in the world. By 1946, the antiaircraft arm was the owner of Fort Bliss. By 1957, the post had become the Air Defense Center and School for the United States Army. This book is the story of that progression until the Base Realignment and Closure announcement in 2005. By 2011, the Air Defense Artillery Center and School will be located at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. This will end the era of Air Defense Artillery ownership of Fort Bliss, Texas
