Book Putting the I in IHY

Download or read book Putting the I in IHY written by Barbara J. Thompson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-11-29 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Putting the “I” in IHY This book is about international cooperation. It demonstrates how the power of scienti?c imagination and investigation can bring together people form all continents in almost all countries around the globe. In presenting this impressive result, we can understand, how much unifying force the quest for understanding our universe and using outer space for that purpose have. Astronomy is far away from being a “political” area of science. But is has enormous political effects – and all of these effects are positive. This book about the international aspects and achievements of the “International Heliophysical Year (IHY) 2007” can be regarded as a compendium of the fertile impacts of conducting research in this ?eld. The main focus, as the title implicates, is the international cooperation, which has emerged from this grassroots initiative. North and South, industrialized and developing countries have been coordinating their efforts and have been learning from each other in a mutual partnership under a joint understanding of sharing the scienti?c bene?ts. Through this, trans-border networks have been created and scienti?c as well as cultural exchange took place.

Book excerpt: For millennia, the Jade Moon and the Ual-leen have fought in the murky underworld of the galaxy. Most people remain unaware of them, but their struggle spares no one-not even the innocent. Maya and Ihy raise Ianus, a young monk orphaned when he was two, in a Jade Moon monastery far away from the dangerous life in the underworld that killed his parents. Ianus comes to accept his adopted parents as his own flesh and blood. When he receives a vision of Ihy's murder, Ianus plunges deep into the underworld. With the help of his friends, he determines to face the people who murdered his birth parents. But Ianus fails to realize the Ual-leen's real goal-to steal an ancient and powerful relic. Now Ianus must save his dying father and recover the relic. Will he be able to navigate the underworld successfully, or will he fall victim to the murderer's plot? In a rush to save Ihy and his friends, Ianus must wrestle with far greater principles: do we have free will or are we slaves to our circumstances? More importantly, is it worth sacrificing life and freedom for order and security?

Book Arithmeticity in the Theory of Automorphic Forms

Download or read book Arithmeticity in the Theory of Automorphic Forms written by Goro Shimura and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by one of the leading experts, venerable grandmasters, and most active contributors $\ldots$ in the arithmetic theory of automorphic forms $\ldots$ the new material included here is mainly the outcome of his extensive work $\ldots$ over the last eight years $\ldots$ a very careful, detailed introduction to the subject $\ldots$ this monograph is an important, comprehensively written and profound treatise on some recent achievements in the theory. --Zentralblatt MATH The main objects of study in this book are Eisenstein series and zeta functions associated with Hecke eigenforms on symplectic and unitary groups. After preliminaries--including a section, ``Notation and Terminology''--the first part of the book deals with automorphic forms on such groups. In particular, their rationality over a number field is defined and discussed in connection with the group action; also the reciprocity law for the values of automorphic functions at CM-points is proved. Next, certain differential operators that raise the weight are investigated in higher dimension. The notion of nearly holomorphic functions is introduced, and their arithmeticity is defined. As applications of these, the arithmeticity of the critical values of zeta functions and Eisenstein series is proved. Though the arithmeticity is given as the ultimate main result, the book discusses many basic problems that arise in number-theoretical investigations of automorphic forms but that cannot be found in expository forms. Examples of this include the space of automorphic forms spanned by cusp forms and certain Eisenstein series, transformation formulas of theta series, estimate of the Fourier coefficients of modular forms, and modular forms of half-integral weight. All these are treated in higher-dimensional cases. The volume concludes with an Appendix and an Index. The book will be of interest to graduate students and researchers in the field of zeta functions and modular forms.

Book The Revival of Atumism The Ancient Egyptian Religion Part 1

Download or read book The Revival of Atumism The Ancient Egyptian Religion Part 1 written by Mostafa Elshamy and published by Mostafa Elshamy. This book was released on 2021-09-19 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The word Atumism derives from ‘Atum,’ the manifestation of the All-Lord in creating the sphere of earth and the creature Adam. The words ‘Atumian’ and ‘Atumianity,’ addressed here by the meaning of ‘Human’ and ‘Humanity,’ are derived from ‘Atum’ who is ‘Adam.’ In the Egyptian literature, there is a thin line that differentiates ‘Atum’ and ‘Atum.’ Why denominate the Egyptian Religion by the term “Atumism”? The answer is found in multitude of diverse notions embedded in the Egyptian speech and makes the term in its profoundness the most right for a religion that has been of divine revelation millennia ahead of A. D. This book is a fusion of the earlier research titled “Ancient Egypt: The Primal Age of Divine Revelation, Volume I and II.

Download or read book Many Particle Physics written by Gerald D. Mahan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1042 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is for a course in advanced solid-state theory. It is aimed at graduate students in their third or fourth year of study who wish to learn the advanced techniques of solid-state theoretical physics. The method of Green's functions is introduced at the beginning and used throughout. Indeed, it could be considered a book on practical applications of Green's functions, although I prefer to call it a book on physics. The method of Green's functions has been used by many theorists to derive equations which, when solved, provide an accurate numerical description of many processes in solids and quantum fluids. In this book I attempt to summarize many of these theories in order to show how Green's functions are used to solve real problems. My goal, in writing each section, is to describe calculations which can be compared with experiments and to provide these comparisons whenever available. The student is expected to have a background in quantum mechanics at the level acquired from a graduate course using the textbook by either L. I. Schiff, A. S. Davydov, or I. Landau and E. M. Lifshiftz. Similarly, a prior course in solid-state physics is expected, since the reader is assumed to know concepts such as Brillouin zones and energy band theory. Each chapter has problems which are an important part of the lesson; the problems often provide physical insights which are not in the text. Sometimes the answers to the problems are provided, but usually not.

Book excerpt: Zealots and gangsters and Voids, oh my. Sometimes working for the god of sex and music isn't all it's cracked up to be. Lucas Andrews, known as 'Lucky' to his friends, is on the run. As a Host, he willingly shares his body with the spirit of Izadore, one of Ihy's 72 sons and daughters from Ancient Egypt. Hunted by religious extremists, their music-inspired powers spiralling out of control, the pair flees to New York City in order to pursue the only course of action that they've been given: Find one of the legendary Muses of Apollo. But the big city offers big problems and precious few solutions. Just as Lucas and Izadore start to find personal and financial success, they're plunged into metaphysical chaos and mortal danger. Will they be able to find the right help and training in time? Or will the nebulous Void or their dogged pursuers catch up to the pair and silence them forever? WARNING: This book has themes of abuse, bullying, physical violence, metaphysical violence, gun violence, sexual discovery, bisexuality, religious extremism, and pagan religious power in the modern world.
