Book Will Natural Gas Prices Decouple From Oil Prices Across the Pond

Download or read book Will Natural Gas Prices Decouple From Oil Prices Across the Pond written by Mr.Reinout De Bock and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We show that US natural gas prices have decoupled from oil prices following substantial institutional and technological changes. We then examine how this interrelationship has evolved in Europe using data for Algeria, one of Europe’s key gas suppliers. Taking into account total gas exports and cyclical conditions in partner countries, we find that gas prices remain linked to oil prices, though the nexus has loosened. Both high oil prices and a modest industrial recovery in partner countries have kept gas exports at low levels in recent years, suggesting changing market forces. The paper then shows how such shifts can have important macroeconomic implications for a big gas exporter such as Algeria.

Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author, former Speaker of the House, and Fox News political analyst and Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has a plan for slashing gas prices and reducing our long-term dependence on foreign oil. Gingrich is famous for taking big, visionary ideas and boiling them down into practical solutions for the American people and in his new book, $2.50 A Gallon: Why Obama Is Wrong and Cheap Gas Is Possible, Gingrich tackles America's energy crisis. Dealing not only with spiraling gas prices, but with all aspects of energy policy, Gingrich shows how we can safely reap the benefits of America's own natural resources and technology in gas, oil, coal, wind, solar, biofuels and nuclear energy. Gingrich argues that the pinch Americans are feeling at the pump is not a blip in the economy but a looming crisis—affecting not only the price of gas, but the price of food, the strength of our economy, and our national security. To meet this crisis, Gingrich lays out a national strategy that will tap America's scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs, and require Congress to unlock our oil reserves and remove all the impediments and disincentives that unnecessary government regulation has put in the way of American energy independence. The energy crisis is solvable, as Newt Gingrich's plan makes clear. His handbook, $2.50 A Gallon: Why Obama Is Wrong and Cheap Gas Is Possible, is sure to become the talk of the presidential campaign season.

Book Energy Economics

Download or read book Energy Economics written by Thomas R. Sadler and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2020-01-13 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy Economics: Science, Policy, and Economic Applications explains energy systems from an economics perspective. Specifically, the author uses the tools of economics to analyze the development of modern energy systems, the world’s reliance on fossil fuels, and the components of a transition to cleaner energy resources. He also considers the science and policy underlying important energy issues, especially with respect to nuclear energy and the climate crisis, arguing that, without changes to the world’s fossil fuel consumption patterns, an increase in demand for energy will exacerbate environmental problems. This reality demonstrates the importance of the book's analysis of primary energy sources, energy supply and demand, and energy systems. Energy matters are fundamental to our way of life; yet, when it comes to energy economics, many people do not have a working vocabulary.

Book Market Distortions in Privatisation Processes

Download or read book Market Distortions in Privatisation Processes written by Shanker A. Singham and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-12-21 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on a range of global case studies, Market Distortions in Privatisation Processes illustrates the ways in which market distortions damaged the ability of privatisation processes to yield concrete benefits to consumers. The book compares and contrasts privatisations of state-owned enterprises around the world where competition informed the regulatory design and thus liberated consumer welfare. In particular, the cases are drawn from the electricity and gas sector, the telecoms industry, and postal services – each of which has been frequently privatised in different context. For each industry, the book explores the UK and US experiences as well as looking at international cases from both developed and developing countries including, where appropriate, Japan, Colombia, Romania and Mexico. The emphasis is on analysing the impact that market distortions have had on the outcomes of those privatisations. The book also looks at how public service objectives were achieved and how they too can be designed in pro-competitive or anti-competitive ways. This book will be of significant interest to readers in international business, economics, and law.
