    Book Details:
  • Author : Charles H. Spurgeon
  • Publisher : Felipe chavarro
  • Release : 2021-03-01
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 48 pages

Download or read book Meditation written by Charles H. Spurgeon and published by Felipe chavarro. This book was released on 2021-03-01 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To encourage God’s people, we present this issue of the Free Grace Broadcaster on Meditation. Meditation is essential for a healthy walk with Christ and growth in grace. Charles Spurgeon introduces this subject with a helpful overview of the importance, practice, and benefits of biblical meditation. Thomas Watson defines what it is. Thomas Manton is convinced meditation is a biblical duty, and he tells us why. What is the nature of meditation? Isaac Ambrose answers that and describes the time, place, and matter of that holy practice. William Bates beautifully instructs us in occasional meditation, focusing on God’s creation, and George Swinnock offers five descriptions of solemn and set meditation on sacred subjects. Are there real dangers in neglecting this holy act of deep thinking? Edmund Calamy lists twelve! And they are sobering. John Owen, a deeply spiritually-minded pastor and theologian, presents us with practical helps for meditating upon God, and then A. W. Pink meticulously shows us how to approach a biblical text so that we can chew the Bread of Life. Are you new to meditation and wonder what to meditate about? In a second article, Thomas Watson gives a beautiful panorama of biblical themes to fix our hearts on, starting with God in eternity, progressing to Christ in history, and extending to heaven and hell. Then, Jonathan Edwards urges us to show our love to Christ; he does so by giving us a wonderful description of His loveliness. Spurgeon, a great advocate and practitioner of meditation, closes this issue by instructing us with sweet meditations of Jesus Christ our Lord. And how precious they are! Be forewarned: meditation is hard in our too-busy, distracted world; but this FGB is a brief “how-to” that we pray will fan the flames of your heart to seek the glory of Christ in Scripture and to love Him as never before.

In Show Me Your Glory: Understanding the Majestic Splendor of God, Dr. Steven Lawson takes us to the mountaintop of divine revelation by distilling the Bible's teaching about God Himself. Each chapter delves into the depths of God's awesome attributes, teaching that a deeper knowledge of our Creator can lead us into intimate fellowship with and reverent worship of the One who made us for Himself.

Book The Art of Prophesying

Download or read book The Art of Prophesying written by William Perkins and published by Digital Puritan Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Art of Prophesying, Puritan William Perkins (1558-1602) teaches how to preach the Word with "studied plainness," not relying on technique or soaring flourishes of oratory, but rather by unleashing the majestic power of the unencumbered Word of God. Unlike so much of the milquetoast preaching heard today, Perkins teaches how to utilize the Scripture in all its capacities: for teaching correct doctrine, for reproof and correction, and for training the godly in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16). This type of preaching changed lives during Perkins' lifetime, and it has the same effect today. Includes a biographical preface by Benjamin Brook. Scripture references (from the ESV) are embedded in the text as hyperlinks--no internet connection required.

Book The All Seeing Unseen Eye of God and Other Sermons

Download or read book The All Seeing Unseen Eye of God and Other Sermons written by Matthew Newcomen and published by Puritan Publications. This book was released on 2013-07-24 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a compilation of Newcomen’s most rare sermons. The sermons reflect a life dedicated to experiencing and understanding the bible, spiritual truth, and experimental Christianity. His preaching is eminently biblical, energetic and powerful. They clearly display the peculiar ability Newcomen had to capture the attention of a church congregation in order to teach them the great truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His first sermon covers, “The All-Seeing Unseen Eye Of God” which is a fantastic exhortation to holiness taken from Hebrews 4:13, “But all things are naked and open unto the eyes of him, with whom we have to do.” God knows every person who ever was or will be, all their works, all their speeches, and all their thoughts, and such things are always present in the mind of God. This should prompt us to fear and revere God. This sermon alone is worth the cost of the volume. It is best exhortation on this subject matter in print. “The Craft and Cruelty of the Church’s Adversaries” is a powerful polemic against Roman Catholicism, Arminianism and Libertinism which deters Christians to the true faith found in Jesus Christ alone. He explains Nehemiah 4:11, “And our adversaries said, They shall not know nor see, till we come in the midst among them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease.” He shows how the church is at war with the wicked designs of men who would tear down the work of Jesus Christ. Also included is “Jerusalem’s Watchman,” “Walking Worthy of the Gospel,” and a funeral sermon on Acts 13:36. This work is not a scan or facsimile and has been made easy to read with an active table of contents for electronic versions.

Book Light and Heat

    Book Details:
  • Author : R. Bruce Bickel
  • Publisher : Soli Deo Gloria Publications
  • Release : 1999
  • ISBN : 9781573580915
  • Pages : 188 pages

Download or read book Light and Heat written by R. Bruce Bickel and published by Soli Deo Gloria Publications. This book was released on 1999 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is Dr. Bickel's master's thesis and doctoral dissertation on "The Puritan View of the Pulpit" and "The Focus of the Gospel in Puritan Preaching." The Puritans were indeed physicians of the soul, and the entire scope of their ministry was an outgrowth of how they saw themselves as preachers of the Word. The second part of this book is a careful examination of the gospel the Puritans preached--a God-centered message as opposed to today's popular man-centered message.

Book A Guide to the Puritans A Topical and Scriptural Index to the Writings of the Puritans and Their Successors

Download or read book A Guide to the Puritans A Topical and Scriptural Index to the Writings of the Puritans and Their Successors written by Robert P. Martin and published by Banner of Truth Trust. This book was released on 2023-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The writings of the Puritans, states Robert P. Martin in his preface, 'are a rich banquet table loaded with solid nourishment for God's people.' And yet, this banquet is often hard to access because it can be difficult to know where to start with the Puritans or where to find help on a specific topic or text of Scripture. Martin's Guide, available for the first time in hardback, aims to help the would-be feaster access the nourishment available from the Puritans and their successors. That last word is significant, because the scope of Martin's indexing work extended not merely to those in the 16th and 17th centuries who might properly be called 'Puritans, ' but also to figures of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries who have stood in the Reformed, evangelical tradition of the Puritans, both feeding on and developing their approach. This is neither a scholarly apparatus nor a comprehensive guide to the corpus of Puritan writing. However, it is a helpful orientation to a tradition, and a guide for those with an appetite to read the Puritans and their successors more, and to read them better. Those in search of what the Puritans had to say on specific topics and texts, and those eager for some direction in their reading, will be well served by the indexing labours of Robert P. Martin. - Broad: This guide uses the term Puritan in the broader sense of those advocating the experiential, calvinistic religion which the Puritans exemplified. It also includes their close theological kin, including such men as Archibald Alexander, Charles Hodge, B. B. Warfield, etc. - Accessible: The works referenced in this guide have been intentionally limited to exclude works which are only available in libraries or private collections, and rather includes recently republished works which readers would be able to locate and purchase for their use. - Balanced: Though efforts have been made to include all older works that are currently available, this guide also includes a sampling of work from living or recently deceased authors.
