Book Enhancement of High Power Pulsed Laser Ablation and Biological Hard Tissue Applications

Download or read book Enhancement of High Power Pulsed Laser Ablation and Biological Hard Tissue Applications written by Hyun Wook Kang and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dynamics of laser osteotomy in a liquid environment was explored. The underlying mechanisms during liquid-assisted ablation included rapid vaporization, plasma confinement, and cavitation with jet formation. Compared to direct ablation, the liquid-confined ablation with higher ablation volume and augmented acoustic excitation demonstrated the feasibility of liquid-enhanced laser osteotomy.

Book Modeling of the Laser Induced Thermal Response Ablation and Fragmentation of Biological Tissue

Download or read book Modeling of the Laser Induced Thermal Response Ablation and Fragmentation of Biological Tissue written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the modeling activities carried out by Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI) during the first year of our ONR Contract N0014-87-C-0161. The objective of this contract is to develop models which can ultimately be used to predict the thermal response, ablation, and fragmentation of hard and soft biological tissue exposed to free electron laser (FEL) radiation. Most of our efforts thus far have been focused on the hard tissue problem, i.e., kidney stones, gallstones, calcified plaque. During this first year of the program modeling efforts have been initiated in four principal areas: (1) further development and application of 1-D and 2-D numerical heat conduction codes to model the thermal damage and ablation of soft tissue exposed to infrared laser energy, (2) modeling of plasma initiation mechanisms in, and resulting plasma spectral emissions from, pulsed laser-irradiated kidney stones and gallstones, (3) modeling of laser-driven shock-induced fragmentation of kidney stones and gallstones, and (4) modeling of the above surface hydrodynamics, i.e., bubble growth and acoustic wave propagation, resulting from plasma-mediated laser energy deposition above a hard tissue surface in a fluid medium.

Book Optical Response of Laser Irradiated Tissue

Download or read book Optical Response of Laser Irradiated Tissue written by Ashley J. Welch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 938 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this text, scientists provide a detailed description of the physical events that occur when light interacts with tissue. Their work emphasizes the optical response of tissue during treatment procedures or diagnostic applications of laser light. Supported by numerous illustrations, chapters present methods for estimating tissue optical properties from measurements of reflection and transmission in addition to methods for measuring temperature, thermal properties and rate constants. A discussion on the applications of optical and thermal tissue interactions to various medical problems is included.

This book was released on 2001 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the introduction of laser technology into medicine, quite a number of clinical applications in orthopaedics have been developed. This text is the first to provide comprehensive guidelines and how-to-do instructions for the application of lasers in orthopaedics. These cover patient selection and decision-making as well as the benefits and risks of the clinical application of lasers in arthroscopic surgery, spine surgery and open surgery. An overview is given on the basics of laser technology and the various laser types are evaluated in terms of optimal use.
