Book excerpt: Integrative Omics: Concepts, Methodology and Applications provides a holistic and integrated view of defining and applying network approaches, integrative tools, and methods to solve problems for the rationalization of genotype to phenotype relationships. The reference includes a range of chapters in a systemic ‘step by step’ manner, which begins with the basic concepts from Omic to Multi Integrative Omics approaches, followed by their full range of approaches, applications, emerging trends, and future trends. All key areas of Omics are covered including biological databases, sequence alignment, pharmacogenomics, nutrigenomics and microbial omics, integrated omics for Food Science and Identification of genes associated with disease, clinical data integration and data warehousing, translational omics as well as omics technology policy and society research. Integrative Omics: Concepts, Methodology and Applications highlights the recent concepts, methodologies, advancements in technologies and is also well-suited for researchers from both academic and industry background, undergraduate and graduate students who are mainly working in the area of computational systems biology, integrative omics and translational science. The book bridges the gap between biological sciences, physical sciences, computer science, statistics, data science, information technology and mathematics by presenting content specifically dedicated to mathematical models of biological systems. Provides a holistic, integrated view of a defining and applying network approach, integrative tools, and methods to solve problems for rationalization of genotype to phenotype relationships Offers an interdisciplinary approach to Databases, data analytics techniques, biological tools, network construction, analysis, modeling, prediction and simulation of biological systems leading to ‘translational research’, i.e., drug discovery, drug target prediction, and precision medicine Covers worldwide methods, concepts, databases, and tools used in the construction of integrated pathways

Book Environmental Fate and Effects of Pulp and Paper

Download or read book Environmental Fate and Effects of Pulp and Paper written by Mark R. Servos and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-02-03 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, there have been emerging concerns regarding the fate and effects of pulp and paper mill effluents on the environment. Countries throughout the world are focusing attention on the implementation of regulatory and monitoring programs. In response, industry has begun to implement a variety of process and treatment technologies designed to minimize or eliminate the potential impacts. Environmental Fate and Effects of Pulp and Paper Mill Effluents explores the most active and critical current research and experimentation from around the world. This comprehensive overview examines the identity and origin of chemicals in pulp mill effluents, environmental fate of chemicals from pulp and paper mills, bioaccumulation of substances from pulp mills to fish and wildlife, field and laboratory studies of biochemical and whole organism responses associated with pulp and paper effluents, integrated monitoring and future research, and policy directions of this rapidly evolving field. Written by prominent scientists from around the world with contributions from industry, government, and academia, this important new book provides a balanced global perspective of the recent scientific findings and the challenges being faced in the immediate future.

Book National Assessment of the Pulp and Paper Environmental Effects Monitoring Data

Download or read book National Assessment of the Pulp and Paper Environmental Effects Monitoring Data written by Richard B. Lowell and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Canada, all pulp & paper mills in Canada are required to conduct environmental effects monitoring (EEM) under the Fisheries Act in order to determine if there were environmental concerns related to fish, fish habitat, or utilization of the fisheries resource. Since 1992, mills have completed two cycles of this monitoring program. This report assesses EEM data in cycle 2 in order to determine the type & magnitude of effects occurring on fish & benthic invertebrate communities on a national scale. Some comparisons are made with data from cycle 1, which was primarily used as a baseline, to indicate trends in the environment over the past decade. After an introduction on the national EEM program and the rationale for this study, chapter 2 presents a historical review of the effects of pulp & paper mill effluents with respect to EEM endpoints. Chapter 3 outlines methodologies used for data analysis. Chapters 4 & 5 describe results of benthic community & fish surveys respectively. Chapter 6 shows the results of a combined analysis of fish population survey & benthic invertebrate community survey endpoints. Chapter 7 highlights the results of an analysis of the data on sublethal toxicity. The final chapter provides an overall summary of report conclusions, recommendations, and next steps for analysis.
