Book Diffuse Cystic Lung Diseases

Download or read book Diffuse Cystic Lung Diseases written by Nishant Gupta and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-28 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive reference on diffuse cystic lung diseases (DCLDs). DCLDs are a group of pathophysiologically heterogenous processes that are characterized by the presence of multiple spherical or irregularly shaped, thin-walled, air-filled spaces within the pulmonary parenchyma. In recent years, tremendous advancements have been made in these diseases leading to improved understanding of the underlying pathophysiology, and improved outcomes with targeted therapies. The authors, who are leading experts in the field, delineate DCLDs as a separate category distinct from other interstitial lung diseases, and have created this textbook specifically dedicated to this disease group. This book begins with a chapter introducing the definition and classification of DCLDs. Subsequent chapters address the pathogenic mechanisms underlying pulmonary cyst formation and provide a detailed overview of the radiological and pathological features of DCLDs. The common as well as uncommon causes of DCLDs are comprehensively reviewed in individual chapters, as are the varied clinical presentations and extrapulmonary manifestations, and approaches to management and treatment. The book culminates in a final chapter that presents a practical algorithmic approach to diagnosis that progresses from least invasive to most invasive approaches. This textbook provides a one-stop, comprehensive and integrated, clinical, radiologic, and pathologic overview of DCLDs that will be as useful to the practicing clinician as it is to the clinical investigator.

Book Lung Metastases and Isolated Lung Perfusion

Download or read book Lung Metastases and Isolated Lung Perfusion written by P. Van Schil and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surgical resection of lung metastases is a widely accepted procedure but long-term results are disappointing with a 5-year survival rate of approximately 40%. The main prognostic factor is complete resection and a better survival is reported in patients with a single metastasis and a disease-free survival of more than 3 years. Re-operations are feasible but often patients become inoperable due to insufficient pulmonary reserve and new treatment modalities are looked for. Intravenous (iv) chemotherapy has no major impact on survival due to systemic side-effects when high doses are given. As isolated limb and liver perfusion, isolated lung perfusion (ILuP) has the advantage of selectively delivering an agent into the lung while diverting the venous effluent. This allows the drug to be given in a significantly higher dose compared to iv therapy, while drug levels in the other organs are kept low enough to avoid major complications. ILuP has been shown to be very effective for the treatment of lung metastases in animal models. Phase I clinical studies to determine dose-limiting toxicity and maximum tolerated dose have recently been reported. The principal aim of this book is to discuss the current treatment of lung metastases and the possible contribution of ILuP.

Book Preoperative Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy

Download or read book Preoperative Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy written by Joseph Ragaz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite recent advances in adjuvant therapies of cancer, the regi mens of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy treatment which are presently available fail to cure the majority of cancer patients. Pre operative (neoadjuvant) chemotherapy represents a new approach in drug scheduling, based on sound theoretical, pharmacokinetic, and experimental principles. The preoperative timing of chemotherapy before definitive sur gery is not a minor change in the therapy of cancer. To be successful, large numbers of practitioners and their patients must participate. Substantial alterations of many aspects of the present management of cancer will have to follow. Therefore, before such therapy can be fully and routinely implemented, results of the novel treatment and its rationale have to be carefully evaluated. In preoperative treatment, other features will likely gain impor tance. For the first time, clinicians have a chance to follow the in vivo response of the tumor exposed to preoperative chemotherapy. The subsequent histological assessment of the tumor sample may likely become an important prognostic guide, permitting more re fined individual approaches to the planning of postoperative adju vant treatment. The value of such a treatment strategy can already be appreciated in the clinical setting, as seen from the therapy of osteosarcoma. Furthermore, preoperative chemotherapy might render previously inoperable tumors operable and hence resectable with a curative intention. The preoperative reduction of tumor bulk may also effectively decrease the need for more radical operations, permitting a more uniform adoption of conservative surgery.

Book Metaphorical Signs in Computed Tomography of Chest and Abdomen

Download or read book Metaphorical Signs in Computed Tomography of Chest and Abdomen written by Andrey Yudin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-03-10 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When analyzing the results of diagnostic imaging studies, the radiologist traditionally makes reference to particular features representative of normality or pathology. Most of these features are associated with images of the world around us. This pictorial issue contains nearly 400 illustrations and descriptions of more than 100 classic radiological signs of chest and abdominal diseases that are not named after authors but based on metaphors derived from contemplation of our environment. By correlating the results of computed tomography with these vivid descriptive images, readers will be able to memorize typical and often pathognomonic patterns of disease more quickly and more easily. This book will be of value for both radiology residents and more experienced radiologists.

Book Comparative Interpretation of CT and Standard Radiography of the Chest

Download or read book Comparative Interpretation of CT and Standard Radiography of the Chest written by Emmanuel E. Coche and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-01-18 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Standard radiography of the chest remains one of the most widely used imaging modalities but it can be difficult to interpret. The aim of this book is to provide a comprehensive overview of chest radiography interpretation by means of a side-by-side comparison between chest radiographs and CT images. Introductory chapters address the indications for and difficulties of chest radiography as well as the technical and practical aspects of CT reconstruction and image comparison. Thereafter, the radiographic and CT presentations of both anatomical variants and a wide range of diseases and disorders are illustrated and discussed by renowned experts in thoracic imaging. The book is complemented by online extra material which provides many further educational examples.
