Book Magnetic Levitation

Download or read book Magnetic Levitation written by Hyung-Suk Han and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-02 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of magnetic levitation (Maglev) technologies, from fundamental principles through to the state-of-the-art, and describes applications both realised and under development. It includes a history of Maglev science and technology showing the various milestones in its advancement. The core concepts, operating principles and main challenges of Maglev applications attempted across various fields are introduced and discussed. The principle difficulties encountered when applying Maglev technology to different systems, namely air gap control and stabilization, are addressed in detail. The book describes how major advancements in linear motor and magnet technologies have enabled the development of the linear-motor-powered Maglev train, which has a high speed advantage over conventional wheeled trains and has the potential to reach speed levels achieved by aircraft. However, many expect that Maglev technology to be a green technology that is applied not only in rail transportation, but also in diverse other fields; to ensure clean transfer in LCD manufacturing, in ropeless high speed elevators, small capacity rail transportation, space vehicle launchers, missile testers, energy storage, and so on. These potential applications and their unique challenges and proposed technological solutions are introduced and discussed in depth. The book will provide readers from academia, research institutes and industry with insights on where and how to apply Maglev technology, and will serve as a guide to the realization of their Maglev applications.

Book Publications on Maglev Technologies

Download or read book Publications on Maglev Technologies written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Magnetically levitated passenger-transportation vehicles, using attractive and repulsive magnetic forces, are currently in the development or prototype-revenue stages in Japan and Germany. The basic principles of these technologies have been understood for several decades, but their practical applications awaited advances in high-power electronic devices, modern controls, superconducting magnets, and improvements in our transportation infrastructures. A considerable amount of work was devoted to magnetic-levitation (maglev) transportation system in the late 1960s and the 1970s. Detailed development was sustained primarily in Germany and Japan. This listing of publications was begun as the initial phase of a design study for a maglev development facility sponsored by the State of Illinois. The listing has been continually updated under programs sponsored by the Federal Railroad Administration and the US Army Corps of Engineers. In 1991, the National Maglev Initiative issued 27 contracts for the study of technical issues related to maglev and four contracts for the definition of maglev systems. In December 1991, the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act was enacted, mandating the development of a US-designed maglev system in a six-year period. This listing is offered as an aid to those working on these projects, to help them locate technical papers on relevant technologies. The design and installation of a maglev transportation system will require the efforts of workers in many disciplines, from electronics to economics to safety. Accordingly, the references have been grouped in 14 different sections to expedite review of the listing. In many case, the references are annotated to indicate the general content of the papers. Abstracts are not available. A list of information services from which the listed documents might be obtained and an author index are provided.

Book Comprehensive Survey of Maglev Train Technologies

Download or read book Comprehensive Survey of Maglev Train Technologies written by Ravikiran Kaur and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project presents a comprehensive survey of Maglev Train technologies that have developed over the years. Recent studies have shown that road transportation is the most common form of worldwide transportation accounting for about 35.1%. Further research has shown that 72.6% of total CO2 emissions from transportation results from road transportation and it consumes 75.3% of total transportation energy demand [1]. These facts together highlight the reason that there must be clean and efficient mass transportation systems. This shows the essential need for the electrification of railways and the necessity to improve their technological performance. Researchers and manufacturers have been encouraged to nurture developments of magnetic levitation, Maglev, based rail technology on a worldwide scale. Maglev systems are fully electrified systems that provide cleaner, faster, and more efficient public transportation systems. The paper provides a full assessment of Maglev train technologies that are currently operating or under construction. The history of Maglev trains is provided along with the various technologies that have been employed over the last few decades. With Japanese Maglev technology having an astonishing head start in the race they may be hard to beat. Germany followed closely with their Maglev train, Transrapid. China, Korea, and the United States are all stepping up their Maglev technologies. This paper will dive deep into each of these technologies and take a closer look at their propulsion, levitation, guidance, power, and control systems. Ten worldwide projects have been reviewed in detail analyzing their propulsion, levitation, and power system technology. Additionally, this paper provides a comparison between energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and cost of construction between the high-speed rail, maglev train, and hyperloop.

Book The Magnetic Levitation Train

Download or read book The Magnetic Levitation Train written by Jens Hillebrand and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2008-09 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject Engineering - Industrial Engineering and Management, grade: 1,3, Vrije University Brussel (Solvay Business School), course: Advanced Technology, language: English, abstract: The magnetic levitation train analysed in this study was developed in Germany by the Transrapid International GmbH & Co. KG, a joint venture by Siemens AG and ThyssenKrupp AG, as a means for high speed transportation. First prototypes were presented to the public as early as 1969 and 1979, yet, the first public high-speed maglev track was opened only four years ago in Shanghai, China. Despite the fact that businesspeople like engineers from all sorts of backgrounds speak very highly of the technology, the Shanghai track remains the only commercially operated one thus far.1 Purpose of this paper is to analyse the potential of the maglev train, to assess its strengths and weaknesses, and to spot opportunities as well as threats to the application of this state-of-the-art - or perhaps ahead-of-its-time - technology.

Download or read book Cryocoolers 13 written by Ronald G. Ross and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-02-15 with total page 710 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last two years have witnessed a continuation in the breakthrough shift toward pulse tube cryocoolers for long-life, high-reliability cryocooler applications. New this year are papers de scribing the development of very large pulse tube cryocoolers to provide up to 1500 watts of cooling for industrial applications such as cooling the superconducting magnets of Mag-lev trains, coolmg superconducting cables for the power mdustry, and liquefymg natural gas. Pulse tube coolers can be driven by several competing compressor technologies. One class of pulse tube coolers is referred to as "Stirling type" because they are based on the linear Oxford Stirling-cooler type compressor; these generally provide coolmg m the 30 to 100 K temperature range and operate ^t frequencies from 30 to 60 Hz. A second type of pulse tube cooler is the so-called "Gifford-McMahon type. " Pulse tube coolers of this type use a G-M type compressor and lower frequency operation (~1 Hz) to achieve temperatures in the 2 to 10 K temperature range. The third type of pulse tube cooler is driven by a thermoacoustic oscillator, a heat engine that functions well in remote environments where electricity is not readily available. All three types are described, and in total, nearly half of this proceedings covers new developments in the pulse tube arena. Complementing the work on low-temperature pulse tube and Gifford-McMahon cryocoolers is substantial continued progress on rare earth regenerator materials.
