Book A Victims X Survivor s Diary Book of Poetry

Download or read book A Victims X Survivor s Diary Book of Poetry written by Lisa Pearson and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-11-24 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A diary of anguish and survival for the battered and abused. Tails of embracing the ghosts of our past that keep lasting grips on our bones. A stoutheartedness that births from facing the most difficult emotional, mental, physical, and darkest abuses most cannot fathom. This book is an unlocked chest of wounds that is another’s shame to bear, not mine. Tangled secrets kept that should be a beacon of light to guide others in the fight of their lives. Mental health, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and depression are merely a design of cruel burdensome oppression inflicted on innocence. I have laid bare my scars on these pages as a gift for others so that they too may free their afflictions on strengthened wings of fortitude. For all the survivors out there that were strong enough to let it all go and those still searching for courage to release their lacerations of torment.

Book From the Dark Shadows to a Vibrant Light

Download or read book From the Dark Shadows to a Vibrant Light written by Ashari Wallace and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-05-13 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Dark Shadows to a Vibrant Light: Poems for the Victims and Survivors is short collection of true events, feelings, and words put into poems. These poems are in support of Sexual Assault and Awareness and a creative form of Advocacy. The poems are entered in chronological order of a tragic rape of a college girl and two males who she thought she could trust. It reveals the dark shadows of the event, the aftermath of her struggle, and the peace she has now found. She is going from dark to light, sad to happy, unhealthy to healthy. The thoughts of those nights haunt her for months and make her wonder what her future will consist of, if she can overcome this hurt and betrayal, and even when she wanted to give up she gave herself a little hope. The unfortunate situations appear in her thoughts and sometimes haunt her dreams. From the Dark shadows also includes a poem the girl wrote for a person near and dear to her heart. The two individuals can help one another with their healing process. That girl is me. Through creative writing (poetry), I have helped heal myself. I have overcome my rape and now can say I have grown from victim to survivor. I hope my collection of short poems encourage others on the struggles some sexual assault victims go through and serve as a form of advocacy for Sexual Assault and Awareness.

Having gone through various stages in life and the adversities that she faced, I am always in awe when I see her strength and courage. She stands strong in her passion to support survivors, which I believe is an incredible + important mission. @Thangam_We_Are_Gold: her work to provide a safe platform for survivors has been ground-breaking, as I had never come across a social media handle where a survivor unapologetically expresses through music and arts. She utilises her creativity to raise awareness and provide comfort to fellow survivors by sharing her journey. It is comforting to know that we have shared experiences and most importantly: we do not have to go through them alone! She takes pride in her Thamizh identity and has a willingness to give back in whatever way possible. She is a great friend, cheerleader, and ally. Amidst the pressures of needing to be the 'perfect' Thamizh woman defined by society, it is refreshing to meet people in life who bravely defy those expectations and choose to be their true authentic self. Dharshana, thank you for being a breath of fresh air and inspiring me in my journey." - Mayuri Thiraviyanathan

Book The Morning Regaining Her Glory A Sexual Trauma Survivor s Journey to Poetic Justice

Download or read book The Morning Regaining Her Glory A Sexual Trauma Survivor s Journey to Poetic Justice written by Belle Jar and published by White Carnation Press. This book was released on 2019-05-13 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To call the Morning Regaining Her Glory a collection of poetry would simply be an understatment. It is a deeply personal narrative of events, feelings, and societal commentaries woven together to illustrate the physical and emotional aftermath faced by sexual-trauma survivors. Inspired by the 2018 sexual-assault suffered by the author while living overseas, it does not aim to shock the reader, nor to sugar-coat trauma. It does not seek to fire the readers' beliefs, but to challenge them. To open one's eyes while maintaining their rights to blink freely. The Morning Regaining Her Glory is one woman's story of reclaiming her power, of attaining poetic justice at a time when legal institutions are prone to broken promises and broken scales. Though written through the lens of a survivor, the Morning Regaining Her Glory aspires to lend itself to readers of all backgrounds. It is a tale of recovery, self-discovery, and healing.

Book excerpt: More than a collection of art and poetry, "The Portrait Project" highlights the inspiring resilience and courage of trauma survivors in the form of contemporary oil paintings, accompanying stories and powerful poetry. In the words of the artist, Danielle Festa: "In 2020 my cousin Sue came to me with the truth of her childhood sexual assault. What came as a tsunami of painful information was a release of stored trauma for her. She finally allowed herself to accept support, gain confidence and offload the weight of this secret. I asked if I could paint this transformation I saw. It was cathartic for me to throw down ink like Jackson Pollock for the background and to embroider the gold and white threads that represent her strength. I could not have predicted, but this opened up a new chapter in my life - I began painting old friends and making new ones while painting their stories of resilience. This has since developed into a 501(c)(3) organization, The Aplomb Project. Collaboration is my priority from the start. I ensure that everything from the reference painting, the pose, the outfit, the colors, photoshoot location and even the music I listen to while I paint, is the survivor's choice. It means the world to me that each one of them trusts me with their story and I take that responsibility seriously. Not only do the survivors get their paintings, but they also become part of a supportive community. This book features twelve survivors with inspiring stories of resilience, and empowering trauma-themed poetry. The stories are purposefully written without graphic details, but please take your time and be sure you are in a place to receive them. If you or someone you know has experienced trauma and are looking for support, please see a list of some reputable organizations available to help at theaplombproject.org/resources."

A "stunning achievement" that remains a "classic for our generation." (Bessel van der Kolk, M.D., author of The Body Keeps the Score). Trauma and Recovery is revered as the seminal text on understanding trauma survivors. By placing individual experience in a broader political frame, Harvard psychiatrist Judith Herman argues that psychological trauma is inseparable from its social and political context. Drawing on her own research on incest, as well as a vast literature on combat veterans and victims of political terror, she shows surprising parallels between private horrors like child abuse and public horrors like war. Hailed by the New York Times as "one of the most important psychiatry works to be published since Freud," Trauma and Recovery is essential reading for anyone who seeks to understand how we heal and are healed.

Once my mind started to free the memories, I was flood with them. I would have Flashbacks that word put me back to that age feeling as I did then. There were body memories that made my body feel the way it did when the abuse happen. Some times it would take me days to get over these. They would hit any time and any place. I had help from my doctors, my therapist, medications and even hospital stays. I was diagnosed with PTSD, DID major depression and anxiety disorder. It is full of ups and downs. This as been a rough journey, but one well worth it. This is my journey thru poems and journaling. A journey that is still going. I hope this book helps you on your own journey.
