Book The Paranormal Surrounds Us

Download or read book The Paranormal Surrounds Us written by Richard Reichbart and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2019-01-02 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shakespeare, Tolstoy, Joyce, E.M. Forster and Ingmar Bergman all made the paranormal essential to their depiction of humanity. Freud recognized telepathy as an everyday phenomenon. Observations on parapsychological aspects of psychoanalysis also include the findings of the Mesmerists, Jung, Ferenczi and Eisenbud. Many academicians attribute such psychic discoveries to "poetic license" rather than to accurate understanding of our parapsychological capacities. The author--a practicing psychoanalyst and parapsychologist, and a lawyer familiar with Navajo culture--argues for a fresh appraisal of psi phenomena and their integration into psychoanalytic theory and clinical work, literary studies and anthropology.

Download or read book The Archetypal Process written by David Griffin and published by Northwestern University Press. This book was released on 1989 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Archetypal Process is a pioneering study linking the ideas of process philosophy, as developed by Alfred North Whitehead and Charles Hartshorne, with the archetypal psychology of C. G. Jung and James Hillman. This is the first work to examine the interconnections of these two modes of thought. Archetypal Process examines the importance of cosmological thinking and the need to ground archetypal psychology in a metaphysical, philosophical framework. It treats the necessity for symbol and myth, the nature of the spirit, and language as a metaphorical vehicle of thought, and finally, it adds a much-needed feminist perspective to the debate.

Book Distant Mental Influence

Download or read book Distant Mental Influence written by William Braud and published by Hampton Roads Publishing. This book was released on 2003-12-01 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professionals in modern psychology, behavioral medicine, and psychoneuroimmunology are exploring ways in which we can "mentally" influence our own bodies through hypnosis, imagery, visualization, attention, intention, and other forms of self-regulation--for fostering physical and psychological health and well-being. Is it possible for us to use such techniques to influence others, even at a distance, for purposes of healing? Is it possible for us to influence the images, thoughts, behaviors, and physiological reactions of other persons--separated by distance--without conventional sensory means of interaction? Can these abilities extend to animals and even to cells (e.g., human red blood cells)? Might these abilities be involved in the efficacy of distant, mental, or spiritual healing and intercessory prayer? Might these influences even extend to events distant in time--even "backwards in time?" Do these influences have major implications for our scientific theories, our human identity, the interconnections between ourselves and nature, and our relationships with others? Careful laboratory work--described in detail in this book--suggests that the answer to all these questions is a resounding "Yes!" A personal introduction and 12 detailed chapters describe the evidence that supporst these important claims. The book also describes the factors that make such distant mental influences more or less likely, so that anyone might use these distant influence skills more effectively and consistently for their own benefit and for the benefit of others.

Book Parapsychology Philosophy and Spirituality

Download or read book Parapsychology Philosophy and Spirituality written by David Ray Griffin and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1997-01-09 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, David Ray Griffin, best known for his work on the problem of evil, turns his attention to the even more controversial topic of parapsychology. Griffin examines why scientists, philosophers, and theologians have held parapsychology in disdain and argues that neither a priori philosophical attacks nor wholesale rejection of the evidence can withstand scrutiny. After articulating a constructive postmodern philosophy that allows the parapsychological evidence to be taken seriously, Griffin examines this evidence extensively. He identifies four types of repeatable phenomena that suggest the reality of extrasensory perception and psychokinesis. Then, on the basis of a nondualistic distinction between mind and brain, which makes the idea of life after death conceivable, he examines five types of evidence for the reality of life after death: messages from mediums; apparitions; cases of the possession type; cases of the reincarnation type; and out-of-body experiences. His philosophical and empirical examinations of these phenomena suggest that they provide support for a postmodern spirituality that overcomes the thinness of modern religion without returning to supernaturalism.

Book The Elements of Parapsychology

Download or read book The Elements of Parapsychology written by K. Ramakrishna Rao and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2017-10-12 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychic phenomena, recorded throughout human history, remained a mystery or a matter of faith rather than a subject of serious study until scientists began to investigate them roughly a century and a half ago. Systematic experimentation began with the work of J.B. Rhine at Duke University, resulting in the publication of Extra-Sensory Perception (1934) followed by Extra-Sensory Perception After Sixty Years (1940). Rhine and researchers who came after him struggled to present sufficient evidence to gain scientific credibility for the existence of extrasensory abilities. Yet despite tight experimental controls and numerous significant results the subject remains controversial. Parapsychologists argue that the impasse is not due to a lack of evidence but to the challenge their claims pose to the worldview of science in general. This comprehensive overview of the discipline of parapsychology, written by one of its most notable investigators, offers the reader a full understanding of both its concepts, theories and methods, and its controversies, problems and prospects.
