Download or read book Psalms Volume 2 Everyman s Bible Commentary written by Robert Alden and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 1955-06-01 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This profound yet clearly written volume discusses the middle section of the Psalter, psalms 51-100, which contains some of the most beautiful expressions of dedication to God in the Bible. Dr. Alden's commentary makes them come alive for Christians today. Studying the Psalms is particularly important for the Christian, since, as Dr. Alden says, "Here, more than any other place in the Bible, the heart throb of the saint is heard. Here are the most exalted expressions of God's greatness; here are the most bitter groans of the sinful and the sick. Here is something for everyone in every mood." Each psalm is examined and discussed individually in sequence. The meaning of each psalm is carefully explained within the context of a basic outline form. With all the helpful features utilized in the Everyman's Bible Commentaries this is an ideal book for personal or group study, whether in a classroom or at home. This Everyman's Bible Commentary is based upon the author's own translation of the scriptural text.

Book Psalms Volume 1 Everyman s Bible Commentary

Download or read book Psalms Volume 1 Everyman s Bible Commentary written by Robert Alden and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 1958-06-01 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combining in a most helpful presentation both scholarly exegesis and practical application, this commentary discusses the meaning of the first fifty psalms. The Psalms served as the hymnbook of ancient Israel and expressed their deepest emotion and reverence toward God, so they are particularly well suited for devotional study. Dr. Alden says, "Here, more than any other place in the Bible, the heartthrob of the saint is heard. Here are the most exalted expressions of God's greatness; here are the most bitter groans of the sinful and the sick. Here is something for everyone in every mood." Each psalm is examined and discussed individually in sequence. The meaning of each psalm is carefully explained and an outline provided. An introductory section deals with the psalter as a whole and the questions of date and authorship. With all the helpful features utilized in the other Everyman's Bible Commentaries this is an ideal book for personal or group study, whether in a classroom or at home.

Book Psalms Volume 3 Everyman s Bible Commentary

Download or read book Psalms Volume 3 Everyman s Bible Commentary written by Robert Alden and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 1976-06-01 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this third commentary on the Psalms, Dr. Alden completes his series by illuminating the final fifty psalms, which he has entitled "Songs of Discipleship." These psalms reveal kaleidoscopic meanings for the reader as Dr. Alden examines the background of each psalm, explains the message the psalmist was attempting to convey then, and relates it in a meaningful way to today. The psalmist tells how the Lord has proved faithful to him, helping him in his distress. He voices desperate petitions, recalls what the Lord has done in the past, praises Him for His goodness and greatness, and testifies to His mercy in the many extremities of life. Dr. Alden says, "Here, more than any other place in the Bible, the heart-throb of the saint is heard. Here are the most exalted expressions of God's greatness. Here are the most bitter groans of the sinful sick. Here is something for everyone in every mood." Containing outlines and translations of difficult words, this is an ideal book for personal or group study, in the classroom or at home.

Book Israel s Eschatological Enemy

Download or read book Israel s Eschatological Enemy written by Timothy Allen Little and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-05-01 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who is the king of Babylon in Isaiah 14? The early church sometimes identified him as Nebuchadnezzar, but most also saw a deeper meaning in Isa 14:12-14, believing this section referred to Satan. Many current scholars reject both views and offer a variety of alternatives. Little argues that "shining one" (Lucifer) in Isa 14:12 is the king of Babylon. This book analyzes the mashal (proverb) genre and argues that the Isa 14 mashal must be a real person, not a symbolic, ideal, eclectic, or representative king. Scholars have presented nine historic kings as the king of Babylon. Little compiles a list of fifteen criteria from Isa 13-14, evaluates these nine kings, and demonstrates that no historic king comes close to fulfilling the fifteen criteria. Instead, Little argues that the king of Babylon is Israel's eschatological enemy. Through the use of catchwords and temporal particles, he first demonstrates that the oracle is a unit. Then he proves that this Babylonian judgment is eschatological. All foreign languages have been translated, allowing the student of prophecy and theology to benefit from this work. Those interested in the mashal genre, Hebrew poetry, and Isaianic exegesis will also find this book stimulating.
