Book PROVE IT A Climate Revelation for People Just Like You

Download or read book PROVE IT A Climate Revelation for People Just Like You written by John B. Hawkins and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-04-18 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prove It: A Climate Revelation for People Just like You! presents a readable, nontechnical explanation of what does and does not cause "climate change." The conclusions are new to the climate debate, they are demonstrably proven, and they convey the feeling of comfort that follows naturally from plain spoken truth. The book's theme, "Climate cycles, not climate change," is supported by proven science in many disciplines. Because highly relevant proven facts are being widely ignored, there is a need for understanding by the "people" of all the facts before prudent policy can be set. The book directly challenges the prevailing "settled science" of climate theories in the United States, which is demonstrably incorrect. If left unchallenged, these theories will cause economic and psychological damage to many people for many years to come. Short chapters in the book are devoted to what is in fact very complex science (e.g., photosynthesis, changes in the earth's orbit about the sun, and the critical importance of CO2 in the oceans and atmosphere to sustain life on earth). The perhaps surprising definition of fossil fuels as "stored solar energy" is directly related to the documented decline of atmospheric CO2 content over the last 500 million years. We present a hypothesis as to why this decline in CO2 is happening. There is a playful tone; for example, CO2 is introduced with the metaphor of Beauty and the Beast, with CO2, the source of life, widely feared as the Beast embodiment of the evils of industrialization! The story is child-friendly, definitely not nightmare material. In summary, the ultimate aim of this book is to inform and teach, and the ultimate audience is the students of present and future generations.

Book excerpt: A startling exploration of the history of the most controversial book of the Bible, by the bestselling author of Beyond Belief. Through the bestselling books of Elaine Pagels, thousands of readers have come to know and treasure the suppressed biblical texts known as the Gnostic Gospels. As one of the world's foremost religion scholars, she has been a pioneer in interpreting these books and illuminating their place in the early history of Christianity. Her new book, however, tackles a text that is firmly, dramatically within the New Testament canon: The Book of Revelation, the surreal apocalyptic vision of the end of the world . . . or is it? In this startling and timely book, Pagels returns The Book of Revelation to its historical origin, written as its author John of Patmos took aim at the Roman Empire after what is now known as "the Jewish War," in 66 CE. Militant Jews in Jerusalem, fired with religious fervor, waged an all-out war against Rome's occupation of Judea and their defeat resulted in the desecration of Jerusalem and its Great Temple. Pagels persuasively interprets Revelation as a scathing attack on the decadence of Rome. Soon after, however, a new sect known as "Christians" seized on John's text as a weapon against heresy and infidels of all kinds-Jews, even Christians who dissented from their increasingly rigid doctrines and hierarchies. In a time when global religious violence surges, Revelations explores how often those in power throughout history have sought to force "God's enemies" to submit or be killed. It is sure to appeal to Pagels's committed readers and bring her a whole new audience who want to understand the roots of dissent, violence, and division in the world's religions, and to appreciate the lasting appeal of this extraordinary text.

Book The Rapture Exposed

  • Author : Barbara R. Rossing
  • Publisher : Basic Books

  • ISBN : 0465004962

Download or read book The Rapture Exposed written by Barbara R. Rossing and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2007-03-30 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of "The Rapture" -- the return of Christ to rescue and deliver Christians off the earth -- is an extremely popular interpretation of the Bible's Book of Revelation and a jumping-off point for the best-selling "Left Behind" series of books. This interpretation, based on a psychology of fear and destruction, guides the daily acts of thousands if not millions of people worldwide. In The Rapture Exposed, Barbara Rossing argues that this script for the world's future is nothing more than a disingenuous distortion of the Bible. The truth, Rossing argues, is that Revelation offers a vision of God's healing love for the world. The Rapture Exposed reclaims Christianity from fundamentalists' destructive reading of the biblical story and back into God's beloved community.

Download or read book The Gnostic Gospels written by Elaine Pagels and published by Random House. This book was released on 2004-06-29 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selected by the Modern Library as one of the 100 best nonfiction books of all time The Gnostic Gospels is a landmark study of the long-buried roots of Christianity, a work of luminous scholarship and wide popular appeal. First published in 1979 to critical acclaim, winning the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award, The Gnostic Gospels has continued to grow in reputation and influence over the past two decades. It is now widely recognized as one of the most brilliant and accessible histories of early Christian spirituality published in our time. In 1945 an Egyptian peasant unearthed what proved to be the Gnostic Gospels, thirteen papyrus volumes that expounded a radically different view of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ from that of the New Testament. In this spellbinding book, renowned religious scholar Elaine Pagels elucidates the mysteries and meanings of these sacred texts both in the world of the first Christians and in the context of Christianity today. With insight and passion, Pagels explores a remarkable range of recently discovered gospels, including the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, to show how a variety of “Christianities” emerged at a time of extraordinary spiritual upheaval. Some Christians questioned the need for clergy and church doctrine, and taught that the divine could be discovered through spiritual search. Many others, like Buddhists and Hindus, sought enlightenment—and access to God—within. Such explorations raised questions: Was the resurrection to be understood symbolically and not literally? Was God to be envisioned only in masculine form, or feminine as well? Was martyrdom a necessary—or worthy—expression of faith? These early Christians dared to ask questions that orthodox Christians later suppressed—and their explorations led to profoundly different visions of Jesus and his message. Brilliant, provocative, and stunning in its implications, The Gnostic Gospels is a radical, eloquent reconsideration of the origins of the Christian faith.

Book How to Blow Up a Pipeline

Download or read book How to Blow Up a Pipeline written by Andreas Malm and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2021-01-05 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Property will cost us the earth The science on climate change has been clear for a very long time now. Yet despite decades of appeals, mass street protests, petition campaigns, and peaceful demonstrations, we are still facing a booming fossil fuel industry, rising seas, rising emission levels, and a rising temperature. With the stakes so high, why haven't we moved beyond peaceful protest? In this lyrical manifesto, noted climate scholar (and saboteur of SUV tires and coal mines) Andreas Malm makes an impassioned call for the climate movement to escalate its tactics in the face of ecological collapse. We need, he argues, to force fossil fuel extraction to stop--with our actions, with our bodies, and by defusing and destroying its tools. We need, in short, to start blowing up some oil pipelines. Offering a counter-history of how mass popular change has occurred, from the democratic revolutions overthrowing dictators to the movement against apartheid and for women's suffrage, Malm argues that the strategic acceptance of property destruction and violence has been the only route for revolutionary change. In a braided narrative that moves from the forests of Germany and the streets of London to the deserts of Iraq, Malm offers us an incisive discussion of the politics and ethics of pacifism and violence, democracy and social change, strategy and tactics, and a movement compelled by both the heart and the mind. Here is how we fight in a world on fire.

Book Climate Change Be Prepared

Download or read book Climate Change Be Prepared written by Marshall Clayton and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-02-09 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As you walk through each day, having the privilege of seeing, hearing, and sharing events that unfold in your life, how much of it all can you truly depend on? To the best of my ability and to the earnest desire of my heart, this book is written to give the reader a place of basic understanding of Gods design of the events we hear a lot about today. The focus is not on what we see and hear today but what the overall concept of the very mind-set of God is as he brings each part of the big picture together. The understanding of this book is based not on science but rather on faith in the God of this universe. Its foremost character is God himself. As you read the events that unfold, you will notice that most are interwoven with one another and that one overlaps the next. One other strong point is that all come to a relationship between you, as an individual, and the very God of the universe. Everything we see and all that we hear or think means nothing to groups or multitudes of people. In reality, its simply you and God. This book, in all that is written or stated, is meant to bring the reader to that conclusion. As this earth goes through time and change, the only real change that matters is your relationship with the true God of this universe. The intent of this book is to bring you to that resolve.

Book In the Cold Light of Day

Download or read book In the Cold Light of Day written by Joseph E Postma and published by . This book was released on 2018-12-03 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Foreword: This book is Joe Postma's voyage and confrontation with the modern version of Francis Bacon's fourth intellectual fallacy. One authority describes Bacon, "as the outstanding apostle of Renaissance empiricism. Less an original metaphysician or cosmologist than the advocate of a vast new program for the advancement of learning and the reformation of scientific method." Bacon's fourth fallacy is as follows: "Idols of the Theatre are those which are due to sophistry and false learning. These idols are built up in the field of theology, philosophy, and science, and because they are defended by learned groups are accepted without question by the masses. When false philosophies have been cultivated and have attained a wide sphere of dominion in the world of the intellect they are no longer questioned. False superstructures are raised on false foundations, and in the end systems barren of merit parade their grandeur on the stage of the world."Since Bacon (1561-1626), western society has dominated the intellectual and scientific view of the world. Although each culture holds a different perspective, they all meet and communicate with the universal language of science and its central disciplines, mathematics and physics. Postma's book is timely, relevant, and extremely helpful because it describes how a 21st-century scientist comes to terms with Bacon today. It's a journey through a world in which the historical signposts were taken down since Bacon and not replaced. It's a journey I took, and everyone should take. In fact, I would make it a mandatory part of any K-12 curriculum. I can say this because I took the journey following a different route than Postma but identifying with all his experiences. In other words, there are universal truths that if known provide light, direction, and understanding, to produce a more productive citizen of the Earth. From the Introduction: That climate alarmism is pseudoscience will be entirely proven within this book. Note that I am not a climate denier: I do not deny that the climate exists, and I do not deny that it changes. The term "climate denier" is just one of those loaded idiotic sophistical phrases that means exactly nothing, which is in fact the same foundation that the so-called science of climate alarmism rests upon. There is no such thing or such a person who denies the climate or denies climate change, and the joke here is that there are people who believe that there are other people who deny that the climate exists and deny climate change. No one denies climate change, or the existence of the climate. This book is nothing to do with supporting the ridiculous flat Earth meme which can be found around internet discussion forums these days. That part of the subtitle indicates that the flat Earth meme has actually been clandestinely if not accidentally inserted into modern physics to the extent that flat Earth theory is actually literally taught to science students by science professors in professional academic universities and their science departments. Yes, seriously. The second part of the subtitle about a mathematical proof for "God" is meant in the proper philosophical Idealist sense, and I leave the development of concepts in this book to get you there. I could have written "universal noumenal mind" but no one would understand what that meant, and God is a somewhat near-enough substitute if you're careful about what you mean by that, but it has all of the essential features a thinking person would expect.
