Book excerpt: When Layla reaches out to an ex-boyfriend, she knows he’ll never reply back. He’s been ghosting her for five years. Except he does… When Blake joined the military, he was forced to give up the one woman he’s ever loved: Layla. Unable to face the pain of letting her go, he cut all communication with her to move forward with his life. He never thought he’d get a do-over with the ‘one that got away,’ but when a simple text leads to confessed feelings, he’ll do anything to bring her back into his life. Even if that means sharing her with his three closest friends. The offer is jaw-dropping: come to an island paradise to help four men heal. There’s no way Layla would ever say yes to an arrangement like that, but a picture of the men she’ll be staying with has her rethinking her initial hesitation, and she soon becomes proud to serve. Unfortunately, paradise isn’t all that it seems, and when secrets from the past resurface, Layla finds herself in more danger than she could have imagined. Proud to Serve is a military reverse harem love story that will get your blood pumping! No cliffhanger and a HEA that will leave you smiling!

Book Proud of What I Was a Soldier

Download or read book Proud of What I Was a Soldier written by Richard Dan Hill and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-11-17 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anyone who ever served in the military can tell a similar story. The circumstances change and the names are different, but when you deal with young soldiers anything is probable. Hill tells the reader about many of these young men and women in some very funny situations. He also details what it is like to be the commander of a unit with 200 or more of these soldiers, in peacetime and in war. In telling the story of his long and varied career, he offers some real leadership gems that carry over to industry. As one observer quipped, every Lieutenant should read this book before spending a day with troops; he will either resign his commission or stay in the military until they kick him out. The author refers to the family members of military members as the real heroes in the military. You will gain a whole new appreciation of what it is like to be an Army spouse. Hill and his wife, Carla, moved 16 times during his 24 year career. Once children came along, it meant new adventures, along with new schools and new friends. The term Army Brat is worn with pride, but it is a title that is hard earned. One knows that military families are nomads, but the author explains how assignments happen and the consequences of decisions on careers and promotion. He tells the reader about dealing with the ubiquitous assignment offi cer. The citizen who has never been around the military will learn a great deal about the inner workings of the career Army Officer and those who support them. You will laugh out loud at some of these tales and cry when you learn about the sacrifices these soldiers and the families make. You will swell with pride when you hear how some of these men respond from unspeakable adversity. Hill is unabashedly proud of all veterans and as the title states, he is proud of his many years of serviceHe is Proud of What he wasA soldier.

Book How the Few Became the Proud

Download or read book How the Few Became the Proud written by Heather Venable and published by Naval Institute Press. This book was released on 2019-11-15 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than half of its existence, members of the Marine Corps largely self-identified as soldiers. It did not yet mean something distinct to be a Marine, either to themselves or to the public at large. As neither a land-based organization like the Army nor an entirely sea-based one like the Navy, the Corps' missions overlapped with both institutions. This work argues that the Marine Corps could not and would not settle on a mission, and therefore it turned to an image to ensure its institutional survival. The process by which a maligned group of nineteenth-century naval policemen began to consider themselves to be elite warriors benefited from the active engagement of Marine officers with the Corps' historical record as justification for its very being. Rather than look forward and actively seek out a mission that could secure their existence, late nineteenth-century Marines looked backward and embraced the past. They began to justify their existence by invoking their institutional traditions, their many martial engagements, and their claim to be the nation's oldest and proudest military institution. This led them to celebrate themselves as superior to soldiers and sailors. Although there are countless works on this hallowed fighting force, How the Few Became the Proud is the first to explore how the Marine Corps crafted such powerful myths.

Book Proud to be

Download or read book Proud to be written by Kelly Flinn and published by Random House (NY). This book was released on 1997 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An extraordinary young woman. An extraordinary controversy. This is Kelly Flinn's story--the one she couldn't tell when she was in uniform. "I fell in love with the wrong man."--Kelly Flinn She is the first woman to pilot a B-52, a charismatic twenty-six-year-old from a proper Georgia family who has always distinguished herself--as a fifteen- year-old at U.S. Space Camp and as a cadet at the U.S. Air Force Academy. There, she overcame considerable odds and earned a coveted position as a combat pilot. But nothing prepared Lieutenant Kelly Flinn for the controversy that erupted when the military began an investigation into her relationship with Marc Zigo, a man who lied to her about his marital status and then betrayed her to military authorities. Flinn was forced to resign amid charges of disobeying orders--charges she disputes in this poignant and powerful memoir. This is the story of Flinn's love affair with flying . . . and the love affair that ended her trailblazing Air Force career. This is also the story of a determined young woman fighting for her rightful place in a military establishment run by men, many of whom are not yet ready to accept a female combat pilot. Flinn reveals examples of hypocrisy and sexism in the military that are, by any standard, infuriating. She rose higher and fell harder, but Kelly Flinn's story is universal, and it powerfully dramatizes the fault lines between our private and professional lives. With disarming candor, Flinn takes us inside her world. We feel her exhilaration as she soars through the sky and commands her own plane, and we share her horror as the love she dreamed of turns into a nightmare and she must battle the military's sexpolice behind closed doors. Kelly Flinn has been called "the Hester Prynne of our time," and her life has been depicted in the media as a combination of Top Gun and The Scarlet Letter. In Proud to Be, she speaks in her own voice--determined, vulnerable, and all too human.

Book excerpt: "Proud City will have reason to be proud!" —June Schmid Amo Sulaiman tells us that we currently live in a millennial age, precipitating all manner of cultural and political re-evaluation. Proud City proposes a reasonable solution to all the world's problems by allowing the youth to break free of the shackles of the oldies and revise society and law accordingly. If only the youth could lead the world, everything would be all right. This book is one that can be read in many different ways rather than having a single, rigid meaning. "Incredible. It's like reading ten books in one. It makes you think and yet laugh, serious and yet witty." —Marylou Bregy, TILT Magazine
