Book excerpt: Proud American Vietnam Artillery Soldiers…Then and Now By: Terry L. Nau Told in the voices of Vietnam veterans looking back on their war, Proud Americans is an oral history of the 2nd Battalion, 32nd Field Artillery unit that served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1972. The 2/32, nicknamed the Proud Americans, fired the first 175 millimeter rounds in the Vietnam War. The unit stayed in Vietnam for seven years, refreshed by more draftees and enlisted soldiers. From rescuing other American soldiers, to the Tet Offensive, to surviving 42 days of mortar attacks, the veterans share their personal stories of service. Bonds, slow to form, became unbreakable as black, Hispanic, white, and immigrant soldiers became brothers. Proud Americans honors the sacrifices of those who never came home and those who did. Reflecting on their journeys to and from Vietnam, these veterans share an intimate view of their dangerous service.

Book 365 Reasons To Be A Proud American

Download or read book 365 Reasons To Be A Proud American written by Richard Happer and published by JonesCat Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2014-11-19 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America is the greatest nation on earth, with an unmatched record of creativity, innovation, scientific advances and sporting sensations. This fact-packed, fun-filled jaunt through the year celebrates all the fantastic achievements of Americans and remembers everything that makes ours a country to be proud of. Which country has won the most Olympic Medals and the most Nobel Prizes? Where were jazz, blues, rap, country and western, and hip-hop first played? Who invented the movies, lasers, cell phones, elevators, the computer you're reading this on and, most importantly, earmuffs? Donuts, hamburgers, hot dogs and Coke may not be healthy, but they sure taste good. And it doesn’t hurt that we produce the world’s highest selling whiskey (Jack Daniel’s) and have the world’s biggest brewery. Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan and Jesse Owens turned their sports upside down they were so talented. We even came up with a few new ones: basketball, snowboarding, volleyball, surfing, skateboarding and Frisbee. Who put man on the moon? You know damn well who. This book tells you the true story behind a fantastic American achievement for every day of the year, and adds a little bit of humor as well. So let the following pages fire up your heart, get your patriot’s blood pumping and remember that you are a citizen of the land of the free and the home of the brave. You are an American, be proud!

The primary focus is on Terror and its effects on a personal life, and indeed the life of the nation. Interwoven is a deep concern for fairness and justice, especially as regards children. Book The Engineer in America

Download or read book The Engineer in America written by Terry S. Reynolds and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With some two million practitioners, engineers form one of America's largest professional groups; indeed, it is the single largest occupation of American males today. The rise of this profession and its place in American society provide the focus for this anthology. Spanning two centuries and the various subdisciplines of the field, these essays demonstrate the paradoxical role engineers have played in building (although usually not controlling) the infrastructure on which America's prosperity is based. This collection of seventeen essays traces the rise of the engineering profession and its evolving contribution to the development of America's material and economic success. Topics addressed include: *American engineering's birth from European traditions *Impact of science on engineering practice *Changing relationship between engineers and bureaucratic organizations *Growth of engineering professional institutions Thoughtfully organized and unique in its scope, this volume will be a welcome overview for both students and scholars of the history of technology. These essays were originally published in the journal Technology and Culture.

Book The American Engineers in France Classic Reprint

Download or read book The American Engineers in France Classic Reprint written by William Barclay Parsons and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The American Engineers in France This book is not intended to be a history or detailed account of the work done by American Engineers in France. Their work was so extensive and so varied as to put the writing of its record beyond the powers of one man, for none could know it all. It is hoped that some day the record will be properly set forth in justice to the men and for the honor of the profession, but it will be of necessity the joint product of several collaborating authors. The first contribution that America made to the Allied cause was the raising of nine regiments of engineers, with one of which the author served. It is their work that is the motif of this book. In the writing, it has been necessary to touch on all the fields of engineer activity, because these regiments came in contact with every field, even if they did not invade each one, from constructing ports to digging and holding trenches, in all parts of France from the Atlantic to the Vosges, from the Mediterranean to Flanders. Consequently there results a brief outline of what all engineers did. Perhaps, it may serve to give those who did not go overseas a picture of what is meant by engineering in modern war. There will not be found any description of spectacular or dazzling pieces of construction like so many structures in civil works that arouse admiration. There was none such. Military engineering consists in doing things in the simplest and quickest way, where permanency in character and accuracy in execution yield to the imperious demands for results that are immediately available regardless of all other considerations.
