Book Prototyping methodology of image processing applications on heterogeneous parallel systems

Download or read book Prototyping methodology of image processing applications on heterogeneous parallel systems written by Jinglin Zhang and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Custom Memory Management Methodology

Download or read book Custom Memory Management Methodology written by Francky Catthoor and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main intention of this book is to give an impression of the state-of-the-art in system-level memory management (data transfer and storage) related issues for complex data-dominated real-time signal and data processing applications. The material is based on research at IMEC in this area in the period 1989- 1997. In order to deal with the stringent timing requirements and the data dominated characteristics of this domain, we have adopted a target architecture style and a systematic methodology to make the exploration and optimization of such systems feasible. Our approach is also very heavily application driven which is illustrated by several realistic demonstrators, partly used as red-thread examples in the book. Moreover, the book addresses only the steps above the traditional high-level synthesis (scheduling and allocation) or compilation (traditional or ILP oriented) tasks. The latter are mainly focussed on scalar or scalar stream operations and data where the internal structure of the complex data types is not exploited, in contrast to the approaches discussed here. The proposed methodologies are largely independent of the level of programmability in the data-path and controller so they are valuable for the realisation of both hardware and software systems. Our target domain consists of signal and data processing systems which deal with large amounts of data.

Download or read book Computer Vision Systems written by Henrik I. Christensen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998-12-18 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer Vision has now reached a level of maturity that allows us not only to perform research on individual methods but also to build fully integrated computer vision systems of a signi cant complexity. This opens up a number of new problems related to architectures, systems integration, validation of - stems using benchmarking techniques, and so on. So far, the majority of vision conferences have focused on component technologies, which has motivated the organization of the First International Conference on Computer Vision Systems (ICVS). It is our hope that the conference will allow us not only to see a number of interesting new vision techniques and systems but hopefully also to de ne the research issues that need to be addressed to pave the way for more wide-scale use of computer vision in a diverse set of real-world applications. ICVS is organized as a single-track conference consisting of high-quality, p- viously unpublished, contributed papers on new and original research on c- puter vision systems. All contributions will be presented orally. A total of 65 papers were submitted for consideration by the conference. All papers were - viewed by three reviewers from the program committee. Thirty-two of the papers were selected for presentation. ICVS’99 is being held at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium and Convention Centre, in Las Palmas, on the lovely Canary Islands, Spain. The setting is spri- like, which seems only appropriate as the basis for a new conference.

Book High Performance Adaptive Image Processing on Multi scale Hybrid Architectures

Download or read book High Performance Adaptive Image Processing on Multi scale Hybrid Architectures written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In such an exciting age of information explosion, huge amount of visual data are produced continuously 24 hours, 7 days in both daily life and scientific research. Processing and storage of such a huge amount of data forms big challenges. Use of supercomputers tackles the need-for-speed challenge partially, but is blocked by its high cost of ownership and slow capacity growth. Distributed computing provides an attractive alternative which scale on demand, ranging from academic clusters to commercial clouds. In recent years, research on computer architecture also advanced significantly, resulting in wide deployment of multi-core and many core processors in both industries and daily life. To this end, this thesis explores how to apply the massively heterogeneous parallel distributed computing architectures for accelerating large-scale image processing applications effectively and efficiently. One step further, considering the actual gap between computing and imaging, the focus of this thesis invests efforts in exploring whether we can efficiently use high performance distributed computing systems to accelerate modern image processing algorithms. Combining the representative computing platforms with the selected image processing applications, four interesting aspects of fast image processing cases are studied in this thesis, namely: large-scale hyperspectral image analysis on multi-clusters platform, complex matrix manipulation on a cluster platform, matrix bidiagonalization on many-core platform, and fundamental matrix multiplication on a many-core accelerated cluster platform. Based on findings in each aspect, we conclude that parallel and distributed systems can give a lot of performance improvements to large-scale image processing applications, but are still hard to be deployed by image processing researchers. New research directions opened by this thesis include large-scale compute intensive application optimization with many-core clusters, complex time-consuming iterative matrix algorithms parallelization on grids, and identification of a generic hybrid multi-layer algorithmic parallelization methodology."--Samenvatting auteur.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a graduate student at Ohio State in the mid-1970s, I inherited a unique c- puter vision laboratory from the doctoral research of previous students. They had designed and built an early frame-grabber to deliver digitized color video from a (very large) electronic video camera on a tripod to a mini-computer (sic) with a (huge!) disk drive—about the size of four washing machines. They had also - signed a binary image array processor and programming language, complete with a user’s guide, to facilitate designing software for this one-of-a-kindprocessor. The overall system enabled programmable real-time image processing at video rate for many operations. I had the whole lab to myself. I designed software that detected an object in the eldofview, trackeditsmovementsinrealtime, anddisplayedarunningdescription of the events in English. For example: “An object has appeared in the upper right corner...Itismovingdownandtotheleft...Nowtheobjectisgettingcloser...The object moved out of sight to the left”—about like that. The algorithms were simple, relying on a suf cient image intensity difference to separate the object from the background (a plain wall). From computer vision papers I had read, I knew that vision in general imaging conditions is much more sophisticated. But it worked, it was great fun, and I was hooked.
