Book Dynamical Models of Biology and Medicine

Download or read book Dynamical Models of Biology and Medicine written by Yang Kuang and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-10-04 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical and computational modeling approaches in biological and medical research are experiencing rapid growth globally. This Special Issue Book intends to scratch the surface of this exciting phenomenon. The subject areas covered involve general mathematical methods and their applications in biology and medicine, with an emphasis on work related to mathematical and computational modeling of the complex dynamics observed in biological and medical research. Fourteen rigorously reviewed papers were included in this Special Issue. These papers cover several timely topics relating to classical population biology, fundamental biology, and modern medicine. While the authors of these papers dealt with very different modeling questions, they were all motivated by specific applications in biology and medicine and employed innovative mathematical and computational methods to study the complex dynamics of their models. We hope that these papers detail case studies that will inspire many additional mathematical modeling efforts in biology and medicine

Book Completion ech and Local Homology and Cohomology

Download or read book Completion ech and Local Homology and Cohomology written by Peter Schenzel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-15 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the present monograph is a thorough study of the adic-completion, its left derived functors and their relations to the local cohomology functors, as well as several completeness criteria, related questions and various dualities formulas. A basic construction is the Čech complex with respect to a system of elements and its free resolution. The study of its homology and cohomology will play a crucial role in order to understand left derived functors of completion and right derived functors of torsion. This is useful for the extension and refinement of results known for modules to unbounded complexes in the more general setting of not necessarily Noetherian rings. The book is divided into three parts. The first one is devoted to modules, where the adic-completion functor is presented in full details with generalizations of some previous completeness criteria for modules. Part II is devoted to the study of complexes. Part III is mainly concerned with duality, starting with those between completion and torsion and leading to new aspects of various dualizing complexes. The Appendix covers various additional and complementary aspects of the previous investigations and also provides examples showing the necessity of the assumptions. The book is directed to readers interested in recent progress in Homological and Commutative Algebra. Necessary prerequisites include some knowledge of Commutative Algebra and a familiarity with basic Homological Algebra. The book could be used as base for seminars with graduate students interested in Homological Algebra with a view towards recent research.

Book C0 Groups Commutator Methods and Spectral Theory of N Body Hamiltonians

Download or read book C0 Groups Commutator Methods and Spectral Theory of N Body Hamiltonians written by Werner Amrein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relevance of commutator methods in spectral and scattering theory has been known for a long time, and numerous interesting results have been ob tained by such methods. The reader may find a description and references in the books by Putnam [Pu], Reed-Simon [RS] and Baumgartel-Wollenberg [BW] for example. A new point of view emerged around 1979 with the work of E. Mourre in which the method of locally conjugate operators was introduced. His idea proved to be remarkably fruitful in establishing detailed spectral properties of N-body Hamiltonians. A problem that was considered extremely difficult be fore that time, the proof of the absence of a singularly continuous spectrum for such operators, was then solved in a rather straightforward manner (by E. Mourre himself for N = 3 and by P. Perry, 1. Sigal and B. Simon for general N). The Mourre estimate, which is the main input of the method, also has consequences concerning the behaviour of N-body systems at large times. A deeper study of such propagation properties allowed 1. Sigal and A. Soffer in 1985 to prove existence and completeness of wave operators for N-body systems with short range interactions without implicit conditions on the potentials (for N = 3, similar results were obtained before by means of purely time-dependent methods by V. Enss and by K. Sinha, M. Krishna and P. Muthuramalingam). Our interest in commutator methods was raised by the major achievements mentioned above.

Book Jordan Triple Systems in Complex and Functional Analysis

Download or read book Jordan Triple Systems in Complex and Functional Analysis written by José M. Isidro and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-12-09 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a systematic account of the impressive developments in the theory of symmetric manifolds achieved over the past 50 years. It contains detailed and friendly, but rigorous, proofs of the key results in the theory. Milestones are the study of the group of holomomorphic automorphisms of bounded domains in a complex Banach space (Vigué and Upmeier in the late 1970s), Kaup's theorem on the equivalence of the categories of symmetric Banach manifolds and that of hermitian Jordan triple systems, and the culminating point in the process: the Riemann mapping theorem for complex Banach spaces (Kaup, 1982). This led to the introduction of wide classes of Banach spaces known as JB∗-triples and JBW∗-triples whose geometry has been thoroughly studied by several outstanding mathematicians in the late 1980s. The book presents a good example of fruitful interaction between different branches of mathematics, making it attractive for mathematicians interested in various fields such as algebra, differential geometry and, of course, complex and functional analysis.

Book Mixing

    Book Details:
  • Author : Paul Doukhan
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 1461226422
  • Pages : 147 pages

Download or read book Mixing written by Paul Doukhan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mixing is concerned with the analysis of dependence between sigma-fields defined on the same underlying probability space. It provides an important tool of analysis for random fields, Markov processes, central limit theorems as well as being a topic of current research interest in its own right. The aim of this monograph is to provide a study of applications of dependence in probability and statistics. It is divided in two parts, the first covering the definitions and probabilistic properties of mixing theory. The second part describes mixing properties of classical processes and random fields as well as providing a detailed study of linear and Gaussian fields. Consequently, this book will provide statisticians dealing with problems involving weak dependence properties with a powerful tool.

Book The Theory of Linear Systems

Download or read book The Theory of Linear Systems written by J. E. Rubio and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Theory of Linear Systems presents the state-phase analysis of linear systems. This book deals with the transform theory of linear systems, which had most of its success when applied to time-invariant systems. Organized into nine chapters, this book begins with an overview of the development of some properties of simple differential systems that are mostly of a nonalgebraic nature. This text then presents a brief treatment of vector spaces, matrices, transformations, norms, and inner products. Other chapters deal with the inductive process used to define dynamical systems. This book discusses as well the existence and uniqueness theorem for the solutions of a homogeneous linear differential system. The final chapter deals with the abstract concept of a dynamical system and derives properties of these systems. This book is a valuable resource for advanced graduate students in areas such as economics and bioengineering. Engineers engaged in systems design will also find this book useful.

Book Topological Vector Spaces

Download or read book Topological Vector Spaces written by H.H. Schaefer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book is intended to be a systematic text on topological vector spaces and presupposes familiarity with the elements of general topology and linear algebra. The author has found it unnecessary to rederive these results, since they are equally basic for many other areas of mathematics, and every beginning graduate student is likely to have made their acquaintance. Simi larly, the elementary facts on Hilbert and Banach spaces are widely known and are not discussed in detail in this book, which is mainly addressed to those readers who have attained and wish to get beyond the introductory level. The book has its origin in courses given by the author at Washington State University, the University of Michigan, and the University of Tiibingen in the years 1958-1963. At that time there existed no reasonably complete text on topological vector spaces in English, and there seemed to be a genuine need for a book on this subject. This situation changed in 1963 with the appearance of the book by Kelley, Namioka et al. [1] which, through its many elegant proofs, has had some influence on the final draft of this manuscript. Yet the two books appear to be sufficiently different in spirit and subject matter to justify the publication of this manuscript; in particular, the present book includes a discussion of topological tensor products, nuclear spaces, ordered topological vector spaces, and an appendix on positive operators.

Book A Course In Complex Analysis In One Variable

Download or read book A Course In Complex Analysis In One Variable written by Moskowitz Martin and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2002-04-17 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complex analysis is a beautiful subject — perhaps the single most beautiful; and striking; in mathematics. It presents completely unforeseen results that are of a dramatic; even magical; nature. This invaluable book will convey to the student its excitement and extraordinary character. The exposition is organized in an especially efficient manner; presenting basic complex analysis in around 130 pages; with about 50 exercises. The material constantly relates to and contrasts with that of its sister subject; real analysis. An unusual feature of this book is a short final chapter containing applications of complex analysis to Lie theory.Since much of the content originated in a one-semester course given at the CUNY Graduate Center; the text will be very suitable for first year graduate students in mathematics who want to learn the basics of this important subject. For advanced undergraduates; there is enough material for a year-long course or; by concentrating on the first three chapters; for one-semester course.
