Book Protein Supplementation Is Vital for Beef Cattle Fed with Tropical Pasture

Download or read book Protein Supplementation Is Vital for Beef Cattle Fed with Tropical Pasture written by Leilson R. Bezerra and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The production of beef on pasture is one of the potentials of Brazilian agriculture, mainly due to the territorial extension and climatic conditions. Therefore, the production of beef on tropical pastures mainly consists of the use of tropical forages; when correctly handled, forage plants show good productivity and improvement in the nutritive value. Among main factors that affect the performance of beef cattle fed on pastures, the availability and quality of the pasture stand first. In tropical regions, during the dry period of the year, the production of forage as well as its nutritive value is diminished. Hence, it is necessary to use protein supplements as a feed strategy to promote increased intake and improved nutrient utilization efficiency by animals. In view of this, by-products of biodiesel from oilseeds, such as peanuts, cottonseed and sunflower seeds, with high nutritional values can be used as an animal feed alternative to the protein sources commonly used for the formulation of supplements. Protein supplementation contributes to an increase in live weight gain as well as improvement in ruminal microbiota activity and, consequently, potentiates nutrient utilization efficiency in beef cattle fed with tropical pasture.

Book Grasses as Food and Feed

Download or read book Grasses as Food and Feed written by Zerihun Tadele and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-12-12 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The grass or Poaceae family includes all cereal crops and forage grasses. Hence, they play a significant role in the economy of both the developed and developing world. Similar to other crop types, grasses are continuously challenged by a variety of environmental constraints. These constraints include a variety of biotic and abiotic stresses, and an enabling environment, which mainly refers to policy-related issues that affect productivity. In this book, the importance of selected cereal crops and grasses as well as associated constraints are presented. In addition, techniques proven to improve the productivity of these groups of crops are discussed. The techniques include variety development, soil and crop management practices, and biological control of fungal pathogens using different types of bacterial strains.

Book Feeding Concentrates

Download or read book Feeding Concentrates written by Roy Kellaway and published by Landlinks Press. This book was released on 2004-02-19 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents strategies for feeding energy and protein supplements to pasture-fed dairy cows and examines the potential economic benefits. Effective supplementary feeding of concentrates is critical to the success of all dairy farms. This book is a substantially revised edition of 'Feeding Concentrates: Supplements for Dairy Cows' DRDC 1993. It focuses on feeding concentrates to pasture fed cows to achieve high milk production per cow per hectare, and will assist farmers to decide which supplements give the best results in their particular situation. The benefits that arise from supplementary feeding include higher stocking rates, promotion of growth in heifers and young cows; better body condition score and increased lactation length when pasture is less available; improved pasture use; reduced cost per tonne of pasture eaten; flexibility to increase milk production when milk prices are high; and increased milk protein content when the energy content in pasture is low. This edition has thoroughly reviewed the issues and clearly documents the results of research particularly for grains supplementation. The summaries and recommendations in each chapter will be particularly helpful to dairy farmers in making best management decisions relating to concentrate feeding.

Book Advances in Pasture Management and Animal Nutrition to Optimize Beef Cattle Production in Grazing Systems

Download or read book Advances in Pasture Management and Animal Nutrition to Optimize Beef Cattle Production in Grazing Systems written by Elieder Romanzini and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasing demand of meat requires the adoption of sustainable intensification livestock systems, applying nutritional strategies to reduce any negative contribution from beef cattle to global warming and, at the same time, to increase animal performance and productive efficiency. The pasture management practices and feed supplementation, mainly using non-edible feed with less costs, could minimize environmental and social impacts, resulting in higher productivity with less inputs utilization. Tropical grass submitted to grazing management according to plant height present high soluble protein and low levels of indigestible neutral detergent fiber contents. Energy or rumen undegradable protein supplementation, associated to alternative additives to antibiotics effects, such as probiotics, tannin, essential oils and saponin, can help to fully exploit the animal genetic potential and nutrient utilization efficiency, which decreases greenhouse gases emissions and improves animal performance. Hence, more information about these tools can make the livestock systems in tropical pasture more efficient and eco-friendlier.

Book Animal Feed Science and Nutrition

Download or read book Animal Feed Science and Nutrition written by and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-05-18 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Animal food production faces many challenges including shortage of high-quality feed ingredients, contribution of greenhouse gases and pollutants to the environment, development of antimicrobial resistance, food safety, and animal health and welfare. This examines these issues over three sections. The first section is the introduction. The second section provides insights into optimization of pasture utilization employing different supplements and feed additives to maximize beef cattle production, use of insect meal as a promising protein feed ingredient, and ruminal microbiome manipulation to improve ruminal fermentation efficiency. The third section discusses accurate estimation of enteric methane emission factors, reduction of enteric methane emissions by means of feeding management and antimethanogenic compounds, and different heavy metal pollution by poultry wastes and associated health hazards.

Download or read book Nutrition and Feeding of Organic Cattle 2nd Edition written by Robert Blair and published by CABI. This book was released on 2021-04-28 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic cattle farming is on the increase, with consumer demand for organic milk and meat growing yearly. Beginning with an overview of the aims and principles behind organic cattle production, this book presents extensive information about how to feed cattle so that the milk and meat produced meet organic standards, and provides a comprehensive summary of ruminant digestive processes and nutrition. Since the publication of the first edition, global consumers have increasingly become concerned with the sustainability of meat production. Here, Robert Blair considers the interrelationships of sustainable practices and profitability of organic herds, reviewing how to improve forage production and quality, and minimizing the need for supplementary feeding using off-farm ingredients.

Book Information Resources on the Care and Welfare of Beef Cattle

Download or read book Information Resources on the Care and Welfare of Beef Cattle written by Cynthia Petrie Smith and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the main animal welfare concerns in beef cattle production is that of pain and distress. Dehorning, castration, and branding are husbandry procedures which can cause pain and discomfort. Less acute but still distressful are those issues related to the animal environment. Extreme natural conditions can result in cattle that are heat and/or cold stressed. Drought and the resulting overstocking for available feed resources can also reduce body fatness. These are important welfare issues in modern beef production. The following bibliography explores these issues and more and should provide a useful resource for scientists, veterinarians, extension specialists, students, and others.
