Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blind but able to see auras, Starla Moon's world is anything but dark. Her white hair, ivory skin, and crystal-pink eyes target her for human ridicule. Her ability to communicate silently with animals allows them to guide her without stumbling. She is different, definitely not human. Starla is comfortable living on her animal reserve, tucked quietly into the Idaho Mountains. But 48 hours after her father's death, she finds herself face to face with Victor, a roguish vampire who wants to kill her. Her magical powers ignite, freeing her from his clutches. In a hasty escape, destiny opens the door for Nicolas Angel, her true love, to rescue her. Entering the vampire world she longs to know, Starla must fight to prove her worth amongst the Protectors, who are the super heroes of this magical but perilous realm. Evil in many different forms stalks the land. Finding her courage within, Starla goes into battle, swooping down on a dragon's back, killing the enemy with her wand and leaving the Protectors on the ground marveling at the sight. Pride and strength surge from within her, breaking the bonds of weakness that have kept Starla hidden from her true identity: the first female Protector. Protector's Awakening is book one in The Protectors series, a vampire fantasy epic about finding true love, crusading against evil, and creating family. Tami Blake grew up in Seattle, Washington and currently resides in Jacksonville, Florida. A nurse by profession and lifelong lover of fantasy fiction, she was encouraged to write this book by her husband and sister. When not working or writing, she enjoys knitting and crocheting. Book Protectors and Predators

Download or read book Protectors and Predators written by Bernard Faure and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2015-12-31 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by one of the leading scholars of Japanese religion, Protectors and Predators is the second installment of a multivolume project that promises to be a milestone in our understanding of the mythico-ritual system of esoteric Buddhism—specifically the nature and roles of deities in the religious world of medieval Japan and beyond. Bernard Faure introduces readers to medieval Japanese religiosity and shows the centrality of the gods in religious discourse and ritual. Throughout he engages theoretical insights drawn from structuralism, post-structuralism, and Actor-Network Theory to retrieve the “implicit pantheon” (as opposed to the “explicit orthodox pantheon”) of esoteric Japanese Buddhism (Mikkyō). His work is particularly significant given its focus on the deities’ multiple and shifting representations, overlappings, and modes of actions rather than on individual characters and functions. In Protectors and Predators Faure argues that the “wild” gods of Japan were at the center of the medieval religious landscape and came together in complex webs of association not divisible into the categories of “Buddhist,” “indigenous,” or “Shinto.” Furthermore, among the most important medieval gods, certain ones had roots in Hinduism, others in Daoism and Yin-Yang thought. He displays vast knowledge of his subject and presents his research—much of it in largely unstudied material—with theoretical sophistication. His arguments and analyses assume the centrality of the iconographic record as a complement to the textual record, and so he has brought together a rich and rare collection of more than 170 color and black-and-white images. This emphasis on iconography and the ways in which it complements, supplements, or deconstructs textual orthodoxy is critical to a fuller comprehension of a set of medieval Japanese beliefs and practices and offers a corrective to the traditional division of the field into religious studies, which typically ignores the images, and art history, which oftentimes overlooks their ritual and religious meaning. Protectors and Predators and its companion volumes should persuade readers that the gods constituted a central part of medieval Japanese religion and that the latter cannot be reduced to a simplistic confrontation, parallelism, or complementarity between some monolithic teachings known as “Buddhism” and “Shinto.” Once these reductionist labels and categories are discarded, a new and fascinating religious landscape begins to unfold.

Download or read book Protectors written by Teyla Branton and published by White Star Press. This book was released on 2020-06-04 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Normal Life was Never Their Destiny Protectors is a compilation of three novellas telling the personal stories of characters in the Unbounded series. While these novellas are not necessary to understanding the rest of the series, the stories are not told in the other books, and they give depth and insight to the characters, especially Ava, Chris, and Stella. These books are not from Erin Radkey’s point-of-view, and she only appears briefly in this book. If you prefer to follow only Erin’s story, feel free to skip to The Escape, Book 4 in the Unbounded series. This book contains: Ava’s Revenge Ava O’Hare just wanted to love her child and live in peace, but a normal life was never her destiny. One stark day in 1745, everything she loved was taken from her, ripped away by the very man who should have protected her. Somehow, miraculously, Ava survived. Now it was time for revenge. Long before Ava O’Hare became the successful leader of a modern-day Renegade cell, she had other battles to fight. If you’ve enjoyed the Unbounded series, you will love this extra peek into the events that shaped Ava’s life and made her a Guardian of Humanity. Please note: Most of Ava’s Revenge takes place hundreds of years in the past. However, the last scene is present day and fits into the Unbounded timeline just after the end of The Change (Unbounded Book 1). You can read and enjoy any time after that first book. Mortal Brother Pilot Chris Radkey’s only job in the Mexican jungle is to look after the plane while his Unbounded siblings retrieve a desperately needed cure. It was supposed to be easy. Much easier than seeing his wife murdered by an Emporium hit team, leaving behind two motherless children. Chris soon finds himself using every ounce of his Renegade training in a desperate struggle to secure dangerous Emporium captives and to save the life of a friend. His “easy” job has become a nightmare, one he may not survive. But a woman he cares about needs him, and he won’t allow anything to stand in his way. Please note: The events in Mortal Brother take place in the Unbounded timeline simultaneously with The Cure (Unbounded Book 2) and extends several days past that novel. It should be read after The Cure. Set Ablaze In and out. Do the job. Renegade Blaze Vincent has survived years with this motto. Barely. Plucked from death’s door and revived repeatedly with curequick, he’s developed an addiction that threatens to destroy everything he’s worked for. Now the Emporium is buying fields around a tiny Portuguese town, and mortals—Blaze’s countrymen—are dying. Blaze and his partner, Kenna Murray, are determined to unravel their enemies’ intentions before the entire town is lost. But things tend to explode when Blaze is around. Literally. And to save his people, he must be willing to take yet one more step over the edge. Please note: This novella gives a glimpse into Renegade Ritter Langton’s whereabouts when he disappears for two months between The Change (Unbounded Book 1) and The Cure (Unbounded Book 2). However, this story isn’t about him, but about someone very close to him. If you’ve enjoyed the Unbounded series, you will love this extra peek into Ritter’s family. Set Ablaze can be enjoyed at any time after reading the first two books. Praise for the UNBOUNDED series: "Enough paranoid twists and turns to keep the reader turning pages . . . the author has clearly thought through the nuances of the story's theme and engineered a few surprising plot twists that elevate it . . . above the level of the average thriller." -Publishers Weekly “Excellent and well written!” “I recommend reading the entire series” “Thoroughly enjoyable” “High action and adventure” “Teyla Branton belongs right alongside Patricia Briggs, Kim Harrison, Jennifer Estep, and Kelly Armstrong.” Unbounded Series 1. Book The Protectors and the Motorcyclists

Download or read book The Protectors and the Motorcyclists written by John Mansfield and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-04-19 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All of Jack's life, he had experienced many close calls with serious injury or death. They began when he was very young and continued throughout his life. He always believed he was just lucky, but at the age of about twenty, he came to realize God and his angels, indeed, were protecting him. All of the supernatural events that happened to Jack through the years are real. Even as a teenager, he had a premonition of his younger brother's death. For obvious reasons, he only told a few people just bits and pieces of the strange things that had happened to him. He didn't want people to think he was crazy. In fact, for his entire life, he never even told his parents about these experiences. Jack became a very passionate motorcyclist as a means to try to balance the extreme anxiety he often felt as a result of his otherworldly experiences. The many motorcycle trips he took were therapeutic for him in so many ways. Over time, he developed a rather unique theory about the direction mankind was taking and the shape of things to come. More than anything else, this is the story about the ups and downs most people face in life and how having complete trust in God can get you through even the most difficult situations.

Book Protectors of the Land and Water

Download or read book Protectors of the Land and Water written by Thomas R. Huffman and published by Univ of North Carolina Press. This book was released on 2000-11-09 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the beginning of the twentieth century, Wisconsin citizens have promoted innovative environmental programs. During the 1960s Wisconsin was again at the forefront of the movement advancing mainstream political environmentalism. Thomas Huffman traces the rise of environmentalism in the Badger State during these key years, when the people of Wisconsin instituted policies in such areas as outdoor recreation and resource planning, water pollution control, the preservation of wild rivers, and centralized environmental management. Huffman focuses especially on the influence of Senator Gaylord Nelson, a Democrat and founder of Earth Day, and Governor Warren Knowles, a Republican. He shows that their efforts--and the efforts of their followers in citizen groups, the business and university communities, and the state government--clearly indicate that the origins of environmentalism cannot be placed along a left-right political spectrum. Rather, the movement evolved from an interweaving of liberal and conservative ideologies and from important traditions and precedents within the state's environmental culture. What happened in Wisconsin is particularly significant, Huffman points out, because of the effect of that state's example on other states and the federal government. Originally published in 1994. Book The Great Path of Awakening

Download or read book The Great Path of Awakening written by Kong-sprul Blo-gros-mthaʼ-yas and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the core of spiritual development in Mahayana Buddhism is the arousal of bodhicitta, "awakened heart." Bodhicitta is the unconditional intention to help all sentient beings become free of suffering. It is the complete abandonment of any sort of personal territory, both in our relationships with others and in our understanding of the world as it is. It begins with the development of love and compassion for others and matures into the full resolution to help them as much as possible. This theme is the focus of The Seven Points of Mind Training as taught by Chekawa Yeshe Dorje, a twelfth-century master of the Kadampa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. "The Great Path of Awakening" is a new translation of this basic teaching with the illuminating commentary of Jamgon Kongtrul, a great nineteenth-century scholar. Kongtrul provides clear and concise instructions for practicing the techniques of mind training, with an emphasis on meeting the ordinary situations of life, employing intelligence and compassion under all circumstances. Also included, in an appendix, is a translation of the root text of the Seven Points of Mind Training by the Nalanda Translation Committee under the direction of Chogyam Trungpa.
