Book Protection of the Environment During Demolition Activities

Download or read book Protection of the Environment During Demolition Activities written by Frank W. Skinner and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this study was to refine and/or develop new demolition techniques which would serve to minimize hazards to the environment in areas where demolition activities are scheduled or are on-going. The objective of the first year's effort was to survey present demolition techniques and provide a vehicle for assuring that the most modern demolition techniques and procedures are described so that the Army might make use of them in developing demolition contracts. The phase of the study reported herein involved (1) determining the general state-of-the-art of the demolition industry regarding techniques and current practices, (2) assessing Army demolition problems as characterized by typical projects, and (3) evolving basic guidelines and optional plans of action to be considered in planning demolition projects. It is concluded from this investigation that current Army policies concerning protection of the environment from demolition operations are in step with broad Federal policies aimed at improving the national level of environmental quality. Book Sustainable Living with Environmental Risks

Download or read book Sustainable Living with Environmental Risks written by Nobuhiro Kaneko and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-03-11 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are not free from environmental risks that accompany the development of human societies. Modern economic development has accelerated environmental pollution, caused loss of natural habitats, and modified landscapes. These environmental changes have impacted natural systems: water and heat circulation, nutrient cycling, and biodiversity. These changes in natural systems degrade ecosystem services and subsequently increase environmental risks for humans. Environmental risks, therefore, are not only human health risks by pollution, climatic anomalies and natural disasters, but also degradation of ecosystem services on which most people are relying for their lives. We cannot entirely eliminate the risks, because it is not possible to attain zero impact on the environment, but we need to find a mechanism that minimizes environmental risks for human sustainably. This is the idea of the interdisciplinary framework of “environmental risk management” theory, which advocates harmony between economic development and environmental conservation. Based on this theory, the Sustainable Living with Environmental Risk (SLER) programme, adopted by the Japanese Ministry of Education (MEXT) as one of its strategic programmes, has been training graduate students at the Yokohama National University, Japan, from 2009 to 2013 to become future environmental leaders who will take the initiative in reducing the level of environmental risks and in protecting natural resources in the developing nations of Asia and Africa. This book provides students and teachers of this new academic field with a comprehensive coverage of case studies of environmental risks and their practical management technologies not only in Japan but also in developing nations in Asia and Africa.

Book Geospatial Analytics for Environmental Pollution Modeling

Download or read book Geospatial Analytics for Environmental Pollution Modeling written by Fayma Mushtaq and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-01 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to provide a comprehensive study on various aspects of environmental pollution dynamics using geospatial technology and modeling techniques. The utility of geospatial technology will be demonstrated for the effective study of environmental pollution, as space and location are very important for effective environmental health surveillance. The timeliness of the work is due to the increasing relevance of geospatial technology applications in environmental health investigations. Moreover, different types of pollution are covered in detail, including air and soil, all of which are analyzed using latest Remote Sensing and GIS technology. The basics of environmental pollution and its impacts are covered in the book's first part, while the second part focuses on the use of geospatial technology in investigating and modeling various instances of environmental pollution. The third part discusses policy measures for mitigating environmental pollution hazards, using geospatial analyses and data to craft informed policy decisions. The primary audience for the book is researchers working in the field of environmental pollution with incorporation of geospatial technology, including upper-level undergraduate and graduate students taking courses in remote sensing and its environmental applications. The secondary audience is academicians, planners, environmentalists and policymakers working in the field of environment protection and management.
