Download or read book Breach of Trust written by Gerald D. McKnight and published by University Press of Kansas. This book was released on 2005-10-04 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Warren Commission’s major conclusion was that Lee Harvey Oswald was the “lone assassin” of President John F. Kennedy. Gerald McKnight rebuts that view in a meticulous and devastating dissection of the Commission’s work. The President’s Commission on the Assassination of President Kennedy was officially established by Executive Order to investigate and determine the facts surrounding JFK’s murder. The Warren Commission, as it became known, produced 26 volumes of hearings and exhibits, more than 17,000 pages of testimony, and a 912-page report. Surely a definitive effort. Not at all, McKnight argues. The Warren Report itself, he contends, was little more than the capstone to a deceptive and shoddily improvised exercise in public relations designed to “prove” that Oswald had acted alone. McKnight argues that the Commission’s own documents and collected testimony—as well as thousands of other items it never saw, refused to see, or actively suppressed—reveal two conspiracies: the still very murky one surrounding the assassination itself and the official one that covered it up. The cover-up actually began, he reveals, within days of Kennedy’s death, when President Johnson, FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, and acting Attorney General Nicholas Katzenbach all agreed that any official investigation must reach only one conclusion: Oswald was the assassin. While McKnight does not uncover any “smoking gun” that identifies the real conspirators, he nevertheless provides the strongest case yet that the Commission was wrong—and knew it. Oswald might have knowingly or unwittingly been involved, but the Commission’s own evidence proves he could not have acted alone. Based on more than a quarter-million pages of government documents and, for the first time ever, the 50,000 file cards in the Dallas FBI’s “Special Index,” McKnight’s book must now be the starting point for future debate on the assassination. Among the revelations in Breach of Trust: Both CIA and FBI photo analysis of the Zapruder film concluded that the first shot could not have been fired from the sixth floor. The Commission’s evidence was never able to place Oswald at the “sniper’s nest” on the sixth floor at the time of the shooting. JFK’s official death certificate, signed by his own White House physician and contradicting the Commission’s account of Kennedy’s wounds, was left out of the official record. The dissenting views of the naval doctors who performed the autopsy and those of the government’s best ballistic experts were kept out of the official report. The Commission’s tortuous “Single Bullet” or “Magic Bullet” theory is finally and convincingly dismantled. Oswald was probably a low-level asset of the FBI or CIA or both. Commission members Gerald Ford (for the FBI) and Allen Dulles (for the CIA) acted as informers regarding the Commission’s proceedings. The strong dissenting views of Commission member Senator Richard Russell (D-Georgia) were suppressed for years.

Book The Truth Commission

Book excerpt: A Book Riot Best Book of 2015 So Far Four starred reviews! “Susan Juby’s The Truth Commission knocked my socks off. You should read it!”—Gayle Forman, best-selling author of If I Stay “Susan Juby is a marvel. Wise, witty, and full of heart, her writing draws you in and won’t let go. And just when you think it can’t get any better, it does.”—Meg Cabot This was going to be the year Normandy Pale came into her own. The year she emerged from her older sister’s shadow—and Kiera, who became a best-selling graphic novelist before she even graduated from high school, casts a long one. But it hasn’t worked out that way, not quite. So Normandy turns to her art and writing, and the “truth commission” she and her friends have started to find out the secrets at their school. It’s a great idea, as far as it goes—until it leads straight back to Kiera, who has been hiding some pretty serious truths of her own. Susan Juby’s The Truth Commission: A story about easy truths, hard truths, and those things best left unsaid. * “With a deft hand and an open mind, Juby presents many layers of truth. This is a sharp-edged portrait of a dysfunctional family with some thought-provoking ideas about what is real.” —Publishers Weekly, starred review * “A surprising, witty, and compulsive read.” —School Library Journal, starred review * “Hilarious, deliciously provocative and slyly thought-provoking.”—Kirkus Reviews, starred review * “Juby’s bright dialogue and vivid, appealing characters draw readers along as the three young artists navigate truths both light and dark, discovering themselves in the process.”—The Horn Book, starred review * “A smart, savvy YA novel about what constitutes the truth; its ideas will linger long after the last page.”—Shelf Awareness, starred review “I absolutely loved The Truth Commission. Every page made me laugh aloud, while all the time the tears were creeping up on me. The characters are so real that I wouldn’t be surprised if they knocked on my door right now. I hope they do, I want to spend more time with them.”—Jaclyn Moriarty, author of The Year of Secret Assignments and A Corner of White

Book Sell Your Home and Save Thousands on the Commission

Download or read book Sell Your Home and Save Thousands on the Commission written by Robert Irwin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-04-28 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pay a lower commission-and keep more of your money! Most homeowners assume that everyone pays the same six percent on Realtor commissions. But, in fact, some people pay much less and some people pay much more. And with today's overheated housing market, it seems like most homes practically sell themselves. Is it really worth paying a Realtor tens of thousands of dollars to find a buyer for a home that's in high demand? There are actually many ways to lower the commission you pay-all it takes is knowledge of the selling process and basic negotiating skills. In this helpful, comprehensive guide, Robert Irwin teaches you everything you need to know to get a better deal. He presents a detailed, precise explanation of how the commission system works, and proven strategies and tactics for keeping more of your equity. You'll learn how to lower-and even eliminate-the commission by taking advantage of such little known options as: * Using a discount agent * Negotiating for rebates or reduced rates * Offering flat fees or cash bonuses * Basing commissions on speed of sale and other factors * Creating your own listing agreement * Paying for services rendered rather than percentage * Finding a buyer yourself and paying only for the closing Six percent doesn't sound like much. But for many homeowners, six percent is a fortune better spent on something else. In a booming real estate market, it pays to consider the alternatives-and you'll find them all in this handy, helpful guide.
