Book excerpt: This report on the developmental aspects of the Ph.D. program in mathematics, is basically, an extension of the original proposal written in 1967 which was given planning approval by the State Board of Regents; and the department of mathematics, with the support of the university administration, has been moving towards it implementation. The purpose of this report is, then, to update and amplify the original proposal in light of the changes that have occurred since 1967. Except for obvious alterations which must be made in faculty vitae, etc., and the incorporation of several of the original sections (to produce a document which more clearly focuses on the issue of accreditation), the significant differences occur in the sections dealing with the organizational arrangement of graduate study and with graduate curricula-the necessarily changed as the faculty and needs of the times changed.
