Download or read book Prophetic Marriages and Other Covenants in God s Plan for the Nations written by Steve Ogan and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you considered why God brought you and your spouse together in marriage, beyond the basic understanding that you love each other? There is a deeper dimension to your marriage. There is a greater glory to your relationship. A prophetic marriage is a relationship with a specific vision—one that brings you closer to each other and to your heavenly Father. Prophetic marriages are not about receiving a word of prophecy concerning who to marry or who not to marry. On the contrary, prophetic marriages are Kingdom-based marital relationships that God intends to use to solve indi-vidual, institutional, and national problems. Prophetic Marriages highlights thought-provoking and motivating issues including: • The power of prophetic singlehood. • God’s covenant with widows. • The perfect partnership of marriage and minis-try. • Covenant with your homeland and other lands. • Cross-cultural marriages. • Couples on a mission. • The ultimate prophetic marriage. You will learn how prophetic marriage and prophetic singlehood are exciting vehicles for fulfilling your life’s assignment! Biblically sound with modern-day examples present fresh insights from a Kingdom perspective about how truly wonderful marriage and family life can be.

Book Covenant and the Metaphor of Divine Marriage in Biblical Thought

Download or read book Covenant and the Metaphor of Divine Marriage in Biblical Thought written by Sebastian R. Smolarz and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2010-10-14 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his commentary on Hosea, H. W. Wolff proposed that the divine marriage metaphor is the central metaphor of the entire OT. In Hebrew prophetic books, the metaphor reflected the covenantal relationship between Yahweh and his people. No other metaphor reached as deeply into the heart of this relationship or better described the tragedy of a broken relationship between Yahweh and his people. No other metaphor expressed more fully the abundance of God's grace shown in the promise of covenant restoration and renewal in the eschaton. In this volume, Polish Reformed academic Sebastian Smolarz demonstrates that the divine marriage metaphor is also one of the leading NT metaphors used to describe God's restored covenant relationship with his people, especially in the Book of Revelation. Smolarz argues for continuity between OT and NT concepts and theologies in general, and for continuity between the Apocalypse and OT material in particular, showing that the Apocalypse has much in common with other parts of the NT. In doing so, he focuses on some Gospel parables and reads them against their OT background. He also examines instances of the divine marriage metaphor in Paul's theological reflections. The focus of Smolarz' volume is a covenantal reading of the Apocalypse. He argues that the metaphor helps to establish the Apocalypse's Sitz im Leben, which he relates to the main conflict between the faithful and the unfaithful within the people of God in the first century CE. His work establishes that the Apocalypse contains not only explicit instances, but also implicit references and many echoes of this covenantal metaphor.

Book From Genesis to Revelation God Takes a Bride

Download or read book From Genesis to Revelation God Takes a Bride written by Susan A. Cyre and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2019-06-02 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the whole of Scripture as the unfolding marriage covenant between God and his people. The book demonstrates that God's marriage to his people is the central theme of the Bible. Eighteenth-century Reformed pastor Jonathan Edwards captured that perspective when he observed: The creation of the world seems to have been especially for this end, that the eternal Son of God might obtain a spouse . . . to whom he might . . . pour forth all that immense fountain of . . . love and grace that was in his heart and that in this way God might be glorified. This book traces the divine marriage from God's promises to Abraham, to the betrothal covenant that includes the Ten Commandments, to Israel's breaking of the covenant as described by the prophets, to the new covenant in Christ, and finally to the consummation of the divine marriage covenant in Revelation at the wedding of the Lamb. God instituted the marriage of a man and a woman in Genesis 2 to be an image of God's divine marriage with his people. Therefore, it is not a coincidence that both the Gospel and marriage are under attack in our culture. Human marriage cannot be rightly understood apart from the Gospel and the Gospel cannot be fully understood apart from marriage. This book enables Christians, whether single or married, to appreciate in a much fuller way the depth and nature of God's love for his bride. Seeing how the divine marriage defines and shapes human marriage also presents a clearer understanding of the spiritual importance of human marriage, inspiring Christians to pursue marriages that more faithfully reflect God's design. This book proclaims Scripture's message of God's unrelenting, irrevocable love for his bride and invites the church to respond. Susan A. Cyre, MDiv, helped found Presbyterians for Faith, Family and Ministry in 1995 and served as its executive director until 2014. She edited its bimonthly publication, Theology Matters. She has authored numerous articles dealing with biblical truth and its intersection with cultural norms. She and her husband live in Virginia.

Book The Genesis of Marriage A Drama Displaying the Nature and Character of God

Download or read book The Genesis of Marriage A Drama Displaying the Nature and Character of God written by Richard Shenk and published by Authentic Media Inc. This book was released on 2018-08-01 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theological exploration of Genesis 2 which renews our vision of the purpose of marriage as the central drama within God's salvation plan. Marriage seems increasingly irrelevant to many people today. But is this a true understanding of marriage? Could it be that God may have expectations for marriage which are distinct from our own, and wholly unaffected by our feelings or debates? If God is the author and definer of marriage, then we must look to the Author to discern its meaning rather than ourselves. The Genesis of Marriage sets out a biblical theology of marriage, grounded in the Marriage Text of Genesis 2:18-25, and investigates how it fits in its own context of Genesis 1 - 3 and the whole of Scripture. Examining the Marriage Text exegetically and theologically, Shenk shows this as the climax and conclusion of the two creation accounts, and explores what this reveals about the nature and character of God. The doctrinal implications of this are then explored, answering such practical questions such as, 'What are the ethics of marriage?' and 'How do we approach the real-world concerns of separation, divorce, and remarriage?'. Shenk's exploration helps dispel our modern disillusionment with marriage, or at least our ideas and beliefs about marriage which may be at odds with God's, to reveal deep truth about the nature and character of God.

Book excerpt: This special edition of the Lectures on Faith from Zion’s Camp Books is formatted for convenience on an eReader, with more than 100 internal links to scriptures and citations. We hope it will give you a great reading experience! The Lectures on Faith were originally prepared as materials for the School of the Prophets in Kirtland, Ohio in 1834 and were included in the Doctrine and Covenants from 1835 to 1921. Although the Lectures on Faith have never been accepted as revelation by the body of the church (and so were removed from the Doctrine and Covenants in 1921), they contain important doctrinal insights that can help anyone seeking to learn more about faith and come closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. President Joseph Fielding Smith noted, “I suppose that the rising generation knows little about the Lectures on Faith. . . . In my own judgment, these Lectures are of great value and should be studied. . . . I consider them to be of extreme value in the study of the gospel of Jesus Christ.” (Joseph Fielding Smith, Seek Ye Earnestly. Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 1970.) Elder Bruce R. McConkie of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has stated the lectures contain “some of the best lesson material ever prepared on the Godhead; on the character, perfections, and attributes of God; on faith, miracles, and sacrifice. They can be studied with great profit by all gospel scholars.” (Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine. Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1966.)

Download or read book Marriage as a Covenant written by Gordon Paul Hugenberger and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-09-03 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the interpretation of Malachi 2:10-16, which censures the lax marital practice of its contemporaries. In particular, Hugenberger investigates Malachi's identification of marriage as a "covenant" in response to recent scholarly challenges to this identification. Taking the issues raised by Malachi as his point of departure, Hugenberger examines the nature of covenant and oath (including verba solemnia and oath-signs), and, in light of these findings, explores the theory of marriage implied elsewhere in the Old Testament. Included in this investigation are an analysis of the concentric literary structure of Malachi and a study of the Old Testament's ethical perspectives on divorce, polygamy, and sexual fidelity. An extensive bibliography and indices complete the book.

Book A Marriage Covenant Not For Women Only

Download or read book A Marriage Covenant Not For Women Only written by Linda Anderson and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered why the Bible contains certain specific elements, such as the proliferation of the numbers seven or ten? Or why Peter and Andrew caught specifically 153 fish when Jesus told them to put their net on the opposite side of the boat? I wondered. That curiosity led me to a bigger change in my understanding of scripture than I could have imagined. It literally revolutionized my bible study practice. I am going to let you in on the secret. It is learning to see Scripture through more of a Jewish mindset. Jesus was Jewish, and so was the majority of his audience and the majority of the authors that wrote the Bible. That culture is far different from ours. Therefore it behooves us to attempt to learn something of what Jesus Christ and writers of the word meant when they penned their words. As a serious student of the word, I have spent over twenty years examining and teaching on God's marriage covenant from that perspective. Many of the theories we have been taught about prophecy, the rapture, or lack thereof are brilliantly clear in meaning when we look at them through eyes that understand Jewish culture and the true meaning of the concept of covenant in Hebrew.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S. T. Theophanie, by way of the scriptures quoted in The One-Flesh Covenant, brings to light, through the power of the Holy Spirit, truths that have been rejected by the body of Christ for generations, truths that are foundational and crucial to every life and marriage, and truths that are able to change the behavior of this generation and generations to come. She exposes the false doctrines that permeate the church today in the areas of marriage and divorce, and with correlating scriptures she correctly interprets scriptures that have been misinterpreted for years""scriptures that God has mercifully sent to heal the broken-hearted, comfort the afflicted, and set the captives free. The One-Flesh Covenant is a must-read for every member of the body of Christ as it will enable those who receive its truths to no longer portray Jesus as the God of grace without obedience to faith, the God of faith without works, the God of mercy without justice and the God of forgiveness without repentance and bearing one's cross. No longer will she turn to idols for instruction in righteousness""church leaders who, knowingly or unknowingly, subvert the scriptures to the destruction of millions of souls""but to the Word of God, Jesus Christ.
