Book Heinrich Bullinger on Prophecy and the Prophetic Office 1523 1538

Download or read book Heinrich Bullinger on Prophecy and the Prophetic Office 1523 1538 written by Daniël Timmerman and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2015-02-18 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has often been noted that the Protestant Reformation of the early sixteenth century witnessed a revived interest in the scriptural notions of prophets and prophecy. Drawing from both late medieval apocalyptic expectations of the immanent end of the world and from a humanist revival of biblical studies, the prophet appeared to many as a suitable role model for the Protestant preacher. A prominent proponent of this prophetic model was the Swiss theologian and church leader Heinrich Bullinger (1504–1575). This study by Daniël Timmerman presents the first in-depth investigation of Bullinger's concept of prophecy and his understanding of the prophetic office. It also engages with the history of the Zurich institute for the study of the Scriptures, which has become widely known as the »Prophezei«.

Book excerpt: A Prophet's Ministry is based on personal life experiences. I give testimony as well as explanation on several reasons why the Holy Spirit wants to speak to us today. I, by precept and example, demonstrate why we have need of the Holy Spirit in our everyday life. You will find encouragement through my testimony on how God worked on my behalf through the leading of His Spirit. How He led me from failures to great successes. I demonstrate systematic growth as I show how Jesus led me from a being a layman to a minister of the gospel, how He encouraged me by working his miracles, signs and wonders. Then He performed those same miracles, signs, and wonders through me for the benefit of others as Jesus walked me through the ministry. I reveal shocking testimony as examples of how the prophet's ministry functions. Bill was born in Detroit and raised in the Great Lake area of Michigan. He was baptized Catholic and became born again in a Catholic charismatic prayer meeting in 1975. He converted to the Christian faith. In 1986, he was ordained as an evangelist in a Pentecostal Prophet Church. Through God's interventions, he moved to California with his wife and twin boys in 1979. Over the years, he ministered in many churches through out the U.S.A., teaching many pastors and teachers who still function to this day. Today Bill resides in Yucaipa, CA with his wife, Connie, and currently volunteers as a part time Hospice Chaplain. He also ministers prophecy wherever the Spirit wills.

Download or read book The Prodigal Prophet written by Timothy Keller and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2018-10-02 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An angry prophet. A feared and loathsome enemy. A devastating storm. And the surprising message of a merciful God to his people. The story of Jonah is one of the most well-known parables in the Bible. It is also the most misunderstood. Many people, even those who are nonreligious, are familiar with Jonah: A rebellious prophet who defies God and is swallowed by a whale. But there's much more to Jonah's story than most of us realize. In The Prodigal Prophet, pastor and New York Times bestselling author Timothy Keller reveals the hidden depths within the book of Jonah. Keller makes the case that Jonah was one of the worst prophets in the entire Bible. And yet there are unmistakably clear connections between Jonah, the prodigal son, and Jesus. Jesus in fact saw himself in Jonah. How could one of the most defiant and disobedient prophets in the Bible be compared to Jesus? Jonah's journey also doesn't end when he is freed from the belly of the fish. There is an entire second half to his story--but it is left unresolved within the text of the Bible. Why does the book of Jonah end on what is essentially a cliffhanger? In these pages, Timothy Keller provides an answer to the extraordinary conclusion of this biblical parable--and shares the powerful Christian message at the heart of Jonah's story.

As Adolf Hitler and the Nazis seduced a nation, bullied a continent, and attempted to exterminate the Jews of Europe, a small number of dissidents and saboteurs worked to dismantle the Third Reich from the inside. One of these was Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a pastor and author. In Bonhoeffer, Metaxas presents the fullest account of Bonhoeffer's life, including his: heart-wrenching decision to leave the safe haven of America to return to Hitler's Germany involvement in the famous Valkyrie plot and in "Operation 7," the effort to smuggle Jews into neutral Switzerland lifelong dedication to sharing the tenets of his faith This edition, revised and with a new introduction from the author, shares the deeply moving story through previously unavailable documents, including personal letters, detailed journal entries, and firsthand personal accounts to reveal never-before-seen dimensions of Bonhoeffer's life and work. Praise for Bonhoeffer: "Metaxas has created a biography of uncommon power--intelligent, moving, well researched, vividly written, and rich in implication for our own lives. Or to put it another way: Buy this book. Read it. Then buy another copy and give it to a person you love. It's that good." --Archbishop Charles Chaput, author, First Things "Metaxas tells Bonhoeffer's story with passion and theological sophistication." —Wall Street Journal "Metaxas presents Bonhoeffer as a clear-headed, deeply convicted Christian who submitted to no one and nothing except God and his Word." --Christianity Today "Metaxas has written a book that adds a new dimension to World War II, a new understanding of how evil can seize the soul of a nation and a man of faith can confront it." --Thomas Fleming, author, The New Dealers’ War
