Book excerpt: I will commit myself to you forever—in steadfast love and tender compassion. (Hosea 2:19) The prophet Hosea used the heart-rending story of his marriage to an unfaithful wife as a moving object lesson of the pain which God felt when his people Israel rejected his love. Rather than worshipping the true God, who had brought them out of slavery in Egypt, the nation had reverted to worshipping idols to such an extent that God was compelled to use the words of the divorce formula and say to them “you are not my people.” Yet remarkably, when Hosea’s wife left him for another man, God’s command to the prophet was for him love his wife again, and take her back to his home—that by doing so he might illustrate the grace and unending love of God toward his erring people—the relationship was to be restored! In the midst of serious warnings for the unrepentant, the book of Hosea offers hope that no matter how far a relationship may have broken down, there are none which cannot be restored. In particular, our relationship with God can be renewed by his forgiveness and grace.

Isaiah was Samuel's and Samuel was Isaiah's. That was the way it was since the beginning, and the way it was to be until the end. In the barn they tended to the animals, but also to each other, transforming the hollowed-out shed into a place of human refuge, a source of intimacy and hope in a world ruled by vicious masters. But when an older man—a fellow slave—seeks to gain favor by preaching the master's gospel on the plantation, the enslaved begin to turn on their own. Isaiah and Samuel's love, which was once so simple, is seen as sinful and a clear danger to the plantation's harmony. With a lyricism reminiscent of Toni Morrison, Robert Jones, Jr., fiercely summons the voices of slaver and enslaved alike, from Isaiah and Samuel to the calculating slave master to the long line of women that surround them, women who have carried the soul of the plantation on their shoulders. As tensions build and the weight of centuries—of ancestors and future generations to come—culminates in a climactic reckoning, The Prophets fearlessly reveals the pain and suffering of inheritance, but is also shot through with hope, beauty, and truth, portraying the enormous, heroic power of love.

Carefully documented, eminently fair, and gracefully written, it raises and answers key questions about Graham's character, contributions, and influence on the world religious scene. In this engaging and comprehensive book, William Martin gives readers a better understanding of the most successful evangelist in modern history, and the movement he led for over fifty years. A Prophet with Honor makes a vital contribution to the Billy Graham legacy and allows us to understand why his words, actions, and personality endeared him to popes and preachers, kings and presidents, and millions of Christians in virtually every nation and culture around the world. Martin draws on extensive conversations with Graham himself nearly two hundred interviews previously untouched resources, including documents from six presidential libraries and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association archives personal observation of Graham's crusades and conferences in the United States and Europe decades of research on evangelical Christianity Martin pays particular attention to Graham's controversial relationships with Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon. He also describes how Graham's lifelong determination "to do something great for God" led him to organize international conferences that spearheaded the worldwide spread of the liberating message of Jesus, and prompted him to help strengthen religious freedom in the Soviet bloc and China. Tracing Graham's life and ministry from his rural and religious roots in North Carolina to his place as the elder statesman of American evangelicalism, examining both his triumphs and his tribulations, Martin shows the multidimensional character of the man who has become one of the most admired persons in the world.

Book excerpt: Find beauty and hope by facing and dealing with the messiness of family life. The family is an imperfect institution. Broken people become broken parents who make broken families. But actually, broken is normal and exactly where God wants us. In The Beauty of Broken, Elisa Morgan, one of today’s most respected female Christian leaders, for the first time shares her very personal story of brokenness—from her first family of origin to the second, represented by her husband and two grown children. Over the years, Elisa’s family struggled privately with issues many parents must face, including: alcoholism and drug addiction infertility and adoption teen pregnancy and abortion divorce, homosexuality, and death Each story layers onto the next to reveal the brokenness that comes into our lives without invitation. “We’ve bought into the myth of the perfect family,” says Elisa. “Formulaic promises about the family may have originated in well-meaning intentions, but such thinking isn’t realistic. It’s not helpful. It’s not even kind.” Instead she offers hope in the form of “broken family values” that allow parents to grow and thrive with God. Values such as commitment, humility, relinquishment, and respect carry us to new places of understanding. Owning our brokenness shapes us into God’s best idea for us and enables us to discover the beauty in ourselves and each member of our family.

Book Prophet Muhammad S and His Family

Download or read book Prophet Muhammad S and His Family written by Shamim Aleem and published by Author House. This book was released on 2011-10-27 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though over the past 1400 years, thousand of books have been written on the different aspects of the life of the Prophet Muhammad (S). Even then it cannot claim to be true and exhaustive picture of his multidimensional life as has been successfully projected in this book. The author has tried to look at his family life from a sociological perspective, an approach different from that of other writers. Her attempt is to place at the disposal of young English speaking people, a wider view of the family life of the Prophet,so that they may learn something from it to make their own lives more fruitful and happy. In the last few years and especially after 9/11,interest in Islam and Islamic literature has increased tremendously. Non believers are in a dilemma. On one hand Islam is suppose to be a religion of peace, while on the other, terrorism association with Muslims is on the rise. By making an attempt to depict an objective picture of the life of Prophet Muhammad(S), the author has tried to underline the fact that Islam is not a religion of violence but of peace and the life of the Prophet provides convincing evidence of the same and whatever is being done under the name of Muslim by a handful people has hardly any relation with Islam. The book may be a source of interest to those non Muslims who are keen to know more about Islam.

Book New Prophet or Spiritual Villain

Download or read book New Prophet or Spiritual Villain written by Denny JA and published by Cerah Budaya Indonesia. This book was released on 2020-11-01 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "If you wish to be alive many times with different personalities and various experiences, watch and appreciate a significant number of films. Undergo through the imagination and ponder their numerous stories as if you were living in those stories.” Watching good films make me encounter different events as if I dived and became part of the films. I interact with various roles in the films, feel the story of the depth or falsehood of love, the struggle, the friendship, the success or the failure, the betrayal, and the tragedy presented in the films. Every week I watch about 3-10 films, it depends on my other activities. My friends who know my fixation with films say that being a political or business consultant is just my side job. And my main job is watching films. It is not the satisfaction of watching the latest movies that move me. But it is the film that made me feel like I was making a spiritual journey into the atmospheres and events in the films. My mind is truly enriched. While watching the movie, I laughed, got angry, was overwhelmed, choked, and shed the tears. I came across Richard Nixon’s words: “If you want to explore politics, don’t read political science books, but read religion, philosophy, and literature.” Based on my personal experience, Nixon’s quote needs to be revised and expanded. If you want to explore the human spirit and the character, watch a good film. Contemplate and live it as if you were engaged in the events taking place in the film.

Book The Baby Boom Prophet

Download or read book The Baby Boom Prophet written by B. J. Winley and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-04 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A memoir, an analysis, a warning, or all three in one? From the Cold War to the War on Terror, author B. J. Winley examines America's cultural and political structures in light of the monumental global changes occurring in the new millennium. This thought-provoking treatise takes you on a unique voyage through the annals of time from the perspective of an African American sinner-turned-saint as he seeks to understand and explain both his and his country's evolution. The baby boom generation has emerged divided through these critical times. Controversy and contention have weakened our moral resolve, and our collective spiritual development remains retarded. Will our nation tear itself apart in disagreement over abortion, immigration, and questions of national security? What about our stance on the death penalty or references to God in the public domain? The Baby Boom Prophet: Addressing Our Conflicted Generation challenges America's apathy and its divisiveness, pointing out the perils to our survival not only from diabolical elements outside our borders, but from the insidious distrust engendered within them. The door to restoration and healing lies open to our nation-but will America heed God's call to repentance?
