Book excerpt: This is an attempt to describe the lineage of a number of prophets together with their brief background information and their sons etc. Many books have been written on the history of Islam, history of the prophets, their biographies and the biography of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) etc. However, no attempt has ever been made that tells the reader as to where all the prophets came from, who was their father, grand father etc. Most importantly, no endeavour to depict their lineage by connecting the prophets to the first man on earth: prophet Adam (pbuh).

Book Prophet Abraham A Comparative Analysis of the Sacrifice Story in the Qu ran and the Bible

Download or read book Prophet Abraham A Comparative Analysis of the Sacrifice Story in the Qu ran and the Bible written by Fatma Khanjar and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2016-09-26 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Orientalism / Sinology - Islamic Studies, grade: 1,0, San Diego State University (Institute for Religious Studies), course: The Qur'an, language: English, abstract: Jews, Christians and Muslims believe in the same God and all of them refer to one founding father. Abraham or Ibrahim, it depends from which perspective we are talking, is considered to be the progenitor of the three so-called Abrahamic religions Judaism, Christianity and Islam. For these great faiths, Abraham was the first human being who worshiped only one God. Jews call this God Yahwe or Elohim, Muslims call him Allah and in Christianity it is God the Father. It is true that these religions differ in their rules and duties but they do have some fundamental commonalities. All three religions are of monotheistic nature and they refer to Abraham as common founding father. Hence, it is not surprising that his figure and story can be found in their Sacred Books. As Prophet Abraham is an identification figure for all three religions, it might be interesting to discuss his role and to explore differences and commonalities of his person and his life in the different books. However, it would be beyond the scope of the following paper to allow a comparison between Prophet Abraham’s role in the Tora, in the Qur’an and his role in the Bible. Therefore, this paper is only going to focus on Abraham in the Qur’an, which represents the Islamic point of view and the Bible, which stands for the Christian perspective.

Download or read book The History of al abar Vol 2 written by Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabarī and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1987-01-01 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume records the lives and efforts of some of the prophets preceeding the birth of Mohammad. It devotes most of its message to two towering figures--Abraham, the Friend of God, and his great-grandson, Joseph. The story is not, however simply a repetition of Biblical tales in a slightly altered form, for Ṭabarī sees the ancient pre-Islamic Near East as an area in which the histories of three different peoples are acted out, occasionally meeting and intertwining. Thus ancient Iran, Israel, and Arabia serve as the stages on which actors such as Biwarasb, the semi-legendary Iranian king, Noah and his progeny, and the otherwise unknown Arabian prophets Hud and Salih appear and act. In the pages of this volume we read of the miraculous birth and early life of Abraham, and of his struggle against his father's idolatry. God grants him sons--Ishmael from Hagar and Isaac from Sarah--and the conflicts between the two mothers, the subsequent expulsion of Hagar, and her settling in the vicinity of Mecca, all lead to the story of Abraham's being commanded to build God's sanctuary there. Abraham is tested by God, both by being commanded to sacrifice his son (and here Ṭabarī shows his fairness be presenting the arguments of Muslim scholars as to whether that son was Ishmael or Isaac) and by being given commandments to follow both in personal behavior and in ritual practice. The account of Abraham is interlaced with tales of the cruel tyrant Nimrod, who tried in vain both to burn Abraham in fire and to reach the heavens to fight with God. The story of Abraham's nephew Lot and the wicked people of Sodom also appears here, with the scholars once again arguing--this time over what the exact crimes were for which the Sodomites were destroyed. Before proceeding to the story of Joseph, which is recounted in great detail, we linger over the accounts of two figures associated with ancient Arabia in Muslim tradition: the Biblical Job, who despite his trials and sufferings does not rail against God, and Shu'ayb, usually associated with the Biblical Jethro, the priest of Midian and father-in-law of Moses. Finally we meet Joseph, whose handsome appearance, paternal preference, and subsequent boasting to his brothers lead to his being cast into a pit and ending up as a slave in Egypt. His career is traced in some detail: the attempted seduction by Potiphar's wife, his imprisonment and eventual release after becoming able to interpret dreams, and his rise to power as ruler of Egypt. The volume ends with the moving story of Joseph's reunion with his brothers, the tragi-comic story of how he reveals himself to them, and the final reunion with his aged father who is brought to Egypt to see his son's power and glory. This is proto-history told in fascinating detail, of us in different contexts, as well as of others completely unknown to Western readers.

Download or read book Religion of the Fathers written by Denver C. Snuffer Jr. and published by Restoration Archive. This book was released on 2021-07-20 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first and most complete religion belonged to Adam and Eve. They lived with God, and after being cast out, they retained a memory of living in God's presence. Adam taught the first eight patriarchs born after him the Religion of the Fathers, which involved direct communion, contact, and connection between mankind and God. It enabled the faithful to hear directly from the Lord His promise of eternal life, to seal them by covenant into His Heavenly Family. Despite nearly universal apostasy and rebellion against God while Adam lived, the line of first or Patriarchal Fathers preserved the true religion. Their religion was Adam's religion, and their understanding reached back to the Garden of Eden. They experienced visions, ascended into Heaven, obtained promises of exaltation, and were transformed by their experiences from men into angels of God. After Shem (Melchizedek), an apostasy lasted until Abraham. Although he was raised by an idolater, Abraham searched for the true God of Heaven. He "sought for the blessings of the Fathers," the very thing Malachi prophesies will return before the great and dreadful return of the Lord. Like Adam (at the beginning) and his descendant, Enoch, Abraham was caught up into Heaven and received a tutorial endowment from God. The covenant of the first Fathers was renewed and conferred upon him by Melchizedek, thereby restoring continuity back to Adam. Abraham represents the key Patriarchal Father prophesied of in Malachi. Abraham not only renewed the covenant of the Fathers (including Noah and Enoch), but also, through the Abrahamic covenant, God established Abraham as the new head of the family of God on Earth. The Book of Abraham has become a battleground because it is so important for our salvation. Recovering the Religion of the Fathers, becoming of one heart with the Fathers, and fulfilling the prophecy of Malachi are directly connected to Abraham. The more we can learn of Abraham, the more we can know of the covenant with the Fathers spoken of by Malachi, and those same blessings of the Fathers that will be administered again before the end. We can, if faithful, obtain all that the original Fathers received from God at the beginning. Therefore, any book written by Abraham should be priceless to us. The Lord's "strange act" is approaching completion. The promises made to the Fathers are being vindicated. The Restoration has recommenced, and if we are faithful, it will not be paused or interrupted again. Although Israel's numbers are few, there have never been great numbers willing to sacrifice everything for God. The Religion of the Fathers presents a strong defense of the authenticity of the Book of Abraham as translated through Joseph Smith Jr. in 1835, and subsequently published in the Times & Seasons in 1842. It also presents an expanded view of the Restoration of the gospel, its ancient roots, current covenants, and prophesied future. Topics covered include Christianity, miracles, heaven, hell, the apocalypse, truth, the Bible, the devil, historical evidence, Lectures on Faith, the Ten Commandments, signs of the times, Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, the law of consecration, the Joseph Smith Papers, Joseph's journal, the translation process, the destiny of the Christian church, polygamy, saving grace, and many more.

Book excerpt: Abraham is the father of the three religions: Islam, Christianity, Judaism. Our understanding of Abraham and his stories differs depending on which religion we believe. However, let us begin with our belief and examine his story while he was Avram. He was born as a descendant of Shem in 2166 B.C.; at a place where idols were worshiped by a group known as the Chaldeans. We know those practices influenced Terah: his father, when we look at the Book of Joshua 24:2-3, which states, “2 And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith YAHUAH ELOHIM of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods. 3 And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac." Avram stood out as a man who sought and listened to YAHUAH when He spoke. Avram was eventually referred to as a friend of YAHUAH. When exploring Abraham’s life, we will show the three main events that stand out and examine why YAHUAH chose him to start a new chapter in redemptive history. Avram made one huge mistake with Hagar, but YAHUAH used him anyway. YAHUAH called Avram, but did you know He had to do so twice? There are two instances where Avram had to leave his hometown; first, he left Ur of the Chaldeans along with his father, Terah. Read Genesis 11:31, which says, “31 And Terah took Avram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Avram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.” Read carefully what Genesis 12:1 states, “1 Now YAHUAH had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee.” Notice his “kindred” was with him. We are told he departed his father's house, and he left Haran at the age of 75; this can be found in Genesis 12:4. It states, “4 So Avram departed, as YAHUAH had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Avram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.” Remember what we are told in Acts 7:2, which states, “2 And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The ELOHIM of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,” Here we see ELOHIM appearing to Avram in Mesopotamia before he dwelt in Haran (Charran). This event happened before Genesis 11:31. We will discover that Avram lived as a stranger in a foreign land, a land promised to him but was never given a foot of; the author of Hebrew 11:9 records this as an act of faith. It states, “9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.” Abraham believed in YAHUAH's promise and placed his hope in that promise. Wherever he went, he built an altar for YAHUAH; and lived according to His commands. Follow us on his journey from Avram to Abraham; the truth is just one click away.
