Book Selected Values of the Crystallographic Properties of Elements

Download or read book Selected Values of the Crystallographic Properties of Elements written by John W. Arblaster and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2018-03-01 with total page 684 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reference book presents a unique and comprehensive review of the crystallographic properties of all the elements and will be a valuable resource for metallurgists and crystallographers. The crystallographic properties of the elements are evaluated at ambient pressure in order to provide a base line for high pressure studies. Lattice parameters of the elements are presented as a function of temperature and related properties such as thermal expansion coefficients, molar volumes, and densities are provided. Special attention is given to ensure that the selected values correspond to the latest values of atomic weights and the fundamental constants. The author, John Arblaster spent his career as a metallurgical chemist analyzing a wide variety of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys in a number of commercial laboratories. He first became interested in crystallography in order to solve the dispute over whether osmium or iridium was the densest metal in the room temperature region. He showed, by proper application of up-to-date input data, that it was in fact osmium. He then produced comprehensive reviews on the crystallographic properties of the six platinum group of metals and has now extended this work to all of the elements.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume II of this series provides detailed design information on systems necessary for the storage, transfer, and transmission of gaseous and liquid hydrogen.Cost factors, technical aspects, and models of hydrogen pipeline systems are included together with a discussion of materials for hydrogen service. Metallic hydride gaseous storage systems for the utility and transportation industry are covered in detail, and the design Dewars and liquid hydrogen transfer systems are examined. This series in 5 volumes represents a serious attempt at providing information on all aspects of hydrogen at the postgraduate and professional level. It discusses recent developments in the science and technology of hydrogen production; hydrogen transmission and storage; hydrogen utilization; and the social, legal, political environmental, and economic implications of hydrogen‘s adoption as an energy medium.

Book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering

Download or read book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering written by K. D. Timmerhaus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 727 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1965 Cryogenic Engineering Conference, in presenting the papers of its eleventh annual meeting takes this opportunity to gratefuIly acknowledge the assistance of Rice University and, in particular, R. Kobayashi and his staff for serving as hosts for this conference. This meeting, because of its proximity to the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center, has recognized the impact of the space age on the cryogenic field and has, there fore, attempted to emphasize this aspect of cryogenics to a greater degree than in past conferences. The highlight of this conference has been the presentation of the highest Cryogenic Engineering Conference award-The Samuel C. CoIlins Award-to its first recipient, Dr. Samuel C. Collins. This award, set up in his name, has recognized the outstanding contributions that Dr. S. C. CoIlins, retired Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has made in the field of helium liquefaction. His significant advances in various phases of cryogenics have been recognized inter nationaIly by numerous organizations. High on this list has been the tribute which was bestowed on hirn by the Kamerlingh-Onnes Laboratory in Leiden in awarding hirn the first Kamerlingh-Onnes gold medal to an American in 1958. The Cryogenic Engineering Conference, in addition to recognizing his pioneering work in helium liquefaction by the presentation of the Samuel C. Collins Award, also dedicates this volume of the Advances in Cryogenic Engineering to hirn.

Book Hydrogen Production from Nuclear Energy

Download or read book Hydrogen Production from Nuclear Energy written by Greg F Naterer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-28 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the resurgence of nuclear power around the world, and the increasingly important role of hydrogen as a clean energy carrier, the utilization of nuclear energy for large-scale hydrogen production will have a key role in a sustainable energy future. Co-generation of both electricity and hydrogen from nuclear plants will become increasingly attractive. It enables load leveling together with renewable energy and storage of electricity in the form of hydrogen, when electricity prices and demand are lowest at off-peak hours of nuclear plants, such as overnight. Hydrogen Production from Nuclear Energy provides an overview of the latest developments and methods of nuclear based hydrogen production, including electrolysis and thermochemical cycles. Particular focus is given to thermochemical water splitting by the copper-chlorine and sulphur-based cycles. Cycle configurations, equipment design, modeling and implementation issues are presented and discussed. The book provides the reader with an overview of the key enabling technologies towards the design and industrialization of hydrogen plants that are co-located and linked with nuclear plants in the future. The book includes illustrations of technology developments, tables that summarize key features and results, overviews of recent advances and new methods of nuclear hydrogen production. The latest results from leading authorities in the fields will be presented, including efficiencies, costs, equipment design, and modeling.
