Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-performance alloys that can withstand operation in hazardous nuclear environments are critical to presentday in-service reactor support and maintenance and are foundational for reactor concepts of the future. With commercial nuclear energy vendors and operators facing the retirement of staff during the coming decades, much of the scholarly knowledge of nuclear materials pursuant to appropriate, impactful, and safe usage is at risk. Led by the multi-award winning editorial team of G. Robert Odette (UCSB) and Steven J. Zinkle (UTK/ORNL) and with contributions from leaders of each alloy discipline, Structural Alloys for Nuclear Energy Applications aids the next generation of researchers and industry staff developing and maintaining steels, nickel-base alloys, zirconium alloys, and other structural alloys in nuclear energy applications. This authoritative reference is a critical acquisition for institutions and individuals seeking state-of-the-art knowledge aided by the editors’ unique personal insight from decades of frontline research, engineering and management. Focuses on in-service irradiation, thermal, mechanical, and chemical performance capabilities. Covers the use of steels and other structural alloys in current fission technology, leading edge Generation-IV fission reactors, and future fusion power reactors. Provides a critical and comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art experimental knowledge base of reactor materials, for applications ranging from engineering safety and lifetime assessments to supporting the development of advanced computational models.

  • Author : Erik Lassner

Download or read book Tungsten written by Erik Lassner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why does someone write a book about Tungsten? There are several reasons and precedents for this, the most important of which is that the last book on tungsten was written more than 20 years ago, in 1977, by St. W H. Yih and Ch T. Wang. During the intervening period there have been many new scientific and technological developments and innova tions, so it was not only our opinion but the view of many other members of the "tungsten family" that it was time to start writing a new book about tungsten. Preparations of the new book began in 1994. further impetus to the project was provided by the realization that in spite of this new knowledge having been presented at seminars or published in the technical press, a general acknowledgement of it by the majority of technicians and scientists is still far from being realized. It is our hope that this book will significantly contribute to a broader acceptance of recent scientific and technological innovations. An important prerequisite for such a project is the availability of a recently retired, experienced person willing to devote his time and talents to the tedious part of the exercise.

Book W Tungsten

    Book Details:
  • Author : Gerhard Czack
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 1993-12-15

  • Pages : 279 pages

Download or read book W Tungsten written by Gerhard Czack and published by Springer. This book was released on 1993-12-15 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume describes physical properties of tungsten metal and covers specifically surface properties, electron emission, and field evaporation. Tungsten surfaces are probably the most extensively studied metal surfaces. Recently, experimentalists and theorists have focussed their interest on the atomic structure, lattice dynamics, and electronic properties of the W(100) surface. While the structure of the reconstructed low-temperature surface is well established, there are still unresolved problems concerning the structure at and above room temperature, the nature of the phase transition, and the driving force for the reconstruction. There are numerous and partly conflicting data on the surface energy, the self-diffusion parameters, and the work function of single-crystal and polycrystal tungsten surfaces. Electron emission, which is of fundamental importance for many applications, comprises thermionic, field, photofield, and photoelectric emission as well as emission induced by impinging electrons, atoms, or ions. Pioneering work in areas like thermionic or field emission is comprehensively discussed. Very recent studies of valence-band and core-level spectra moreover provide detailed information on intrinsic surface properties.

Book Ceramic Matrix Composites

Download or read book Ceramic Matrix Composites written by Composite Materials Handbook – 17 (CMH-17) and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2017-06-29 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fifth volume of this six-volume compendium publishes technical guidance and properties on ceramic matrix composite material systems. The selected guidance on technical topics related to this class of composites includes material selection, processing, characterization, testing, data reduction, design, analysis, quality control, application, case histories, and lessons learned of typical ceramic matrix composite materials. Volume 5, which covers ceramic matrix composites, supersedes MIL-HDBK-17-5 of June 17, 2002. The Composite Materials Handbook, referred to by industry groups as CMH-17, is an engineering reference tool that contains over 1,000 records of the latest test data for polymer matrix, metal matrix, ceramic matrix, and structural sandwich composites. CMH-17 provides information and guidance necessary to design and fabricate end items from composite materials. It includes properties of composite materials that meet specific data requirements as well as guidelines for design, analysis, material selection, manufacturing, quality control, and repair. The primary purpose of the handbook is to standardize engineering methodologies related to testing, data reduction, and reporting of property data for current and emerging composite materials. It is used by engineers worldwide in designing and fabricating products made from composite materials.
