Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Properties of Steam and Ammonia The older tables of the properties of steam were neither consistent nor accurate. The tabular values were calculated from empirical formu las based chie y on Regnault's data, and the necessity of consistency was not recognized. Two sets of tables have been based on the general theory developed by Callendar. These are absolutely consistent, but in the light of the knowledge acquired from the Munich experiments, they can no longer be regarded as accurate. In certain tables that have appeared recently have been embodied the results of the Munich experi ments and also the researches of Dr. Davis on the total heat of steam. These tables are undoubtedly far more accurate than the earlier tables, but, having a more or less empirical basis, they are not rigorously con sistent. The tables of the properties of saturated and superheated steam here presented are based on a new formulation the essential features of which are discussed in the first section of the book. A more complete exposi tion will be found in Bulletin No. 75, Engineering Experiment Station, University of Illinois. The new theory correlates perfectly the experi ments on the volume and specific heat of superheated steam; it gives values of the heat content of saturated steam that agree with those deduced by Davis from the throttling experiments; and, in general, it meets satisfactorily all the tests furnished by the available experimental evidence. The tables derived from the formulation are necessarily con sistent, and they are at the same time extremely accurate. This book was released on 2016-11-13 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Properties of Saturated and Superheated Ammonia Vapor The first attempt to establish the fundamental equations for the vapor (ff ammonia and to compute tables of its properties was made by Ledoux.6 These equations and resulting tables, resting as they do upon unsound hypotheses and meager experimental data, are, in the light of later investigations, quite inaccurate. The next theoretical investigation of the subject was undertaken by Zeuner,7 who computed new constants for ammonia, in the equation of state of the form already applied by him to steam, and used by Ledoux for ammonia. He also constructed empirical formulas for the inner and outer latent heat, and the specific heat'of the liquid, and by use of these formulas computed tables which. Appeared in the earlier editions of his thermodynamics.8 In the later editions9 the values thus calculated have still been used for temperatures below 32° F., but results of later experimental deter minations have been used above that temperature. These tables for ammonia vapor are given in both English and French units. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Properties of Liquid Ammonia Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Properties of Liquid Ammonia Classic Reprint written by Ray Boyd Ponder and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-26 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Properties of Liquid Ammonia In the fall of 1911 the study of the properties of liquid, saturated and superheated vapor of ammonia was taken up by Mr. W. E. Mosher of the Experiment Station staff under the guidance of Professor G. A. Goodenough. They have examined carefully all of the existing data that is available and have developed a characteristic equation for ammonia, similar to the one developed for steam by Professor Good enough. They have decided that the work done by Drewes, under the direction of C. Dieterici is the most complete and reli able. Book Tables of the Properties of Steam and Other Vapors and Temperature Entropy Table Classic Reprint

Download or read book Tables of the Properties of Steam and Other Vapors and Temperature Entropy Table Classic Reprint written by Cecil H. Peabody and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tables of the Properties of Steam and Other Vapors, and Temperature-Entropy Table The Tables of the Properties of Steam were published in 1888, to accompany the author's Thermodynamics of the Steam Engine in 1907 they were revised, taking advantage of added information then available, and a temperature-entropy Table was added to facilitate calculations for steam turbines. The properties of steam have recently been redetermined by new and refined methods, that are capable of great certainty and precision, so that computations based upon them Show a satisfactory concordance. These tables have been recomputed with this information, and may, therefore, be used with confidence and may be expected to have permanence. The temperature-entropy Table gives solutions of all adiabatic prob lems (and many others) both for saturated and for superheated steam with ease and precision, and permits us to make certain determinations not otherwise possible. For engineering purposes answers to such prob lems may in general be read directly from the table; greater refinement can be had by interpolation when necessary. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tables of the Properties of Saturated Steam and Other Vapors Pressure of Steam at Latitude - French System. It is customary to reduce all measurements to the latitude of and to sea-level. The stand ard thermometer should then have its boiling and freezing points determined under, or reduced to such conditions. The value of g, the acceleration due to gravity, is, at Paris, latitude 48° 50' 14 and 60 metres above sea-level, metres; and at and at sea-level, it is metres. Con sequently, 760 mm. Of mercury at 45° gives a pressure equal to that of mm. At Paris; and this corresponds to a temperature of C. In other words, the thermometer which is standard at 45° has each degree of the length of the degree of a thermometer standard at Paris. Download or read book A New Treatise on Steam Engineering written by John W. Nystrom and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-14 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A New Treatise on Steam Engineering: Physical Properties of Permanent Gases and of Different Kinds of Vapor It wasat first not intended to include in this work the steam-tables which are published in the author's pocket-book, but after having carefully investigated the Fairbairn experiments and formula for vol ume of steam and concluding that they could not be relied upon, it was therefore decided to calculate new steam-tables and extend them to a pressure of 1000 pounds to the square inch. The relation between temperature and pressure of steam is also slightly altered in the new steam-tables so as to conform to a uniform curve or law, because the average curve adopted by Regnault does not follow a regular law, and therefore indicates that there must have been some inexactness in his experiments. Book Latent Heat of Vaporization of Ammonia Classic Reprint

Download or read book Latent Heat of Vaporization of Ammonia Classic Reprint written by Nathan S. Osborne and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-24 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Latent Heat of Vaporization of Ammonia The equation as developed above expresses the heat, Qabc, added when the entire amount, am, is evaporated at a constant temperature He and removed at the constant pressure are and con stant temperature 09. In the actual experiments, however, the temperatures of evaporation and superheat do vary somewhat during the process of evaporation and removal. It is therefore n Acessary to generalize equation (1 3) so as to take account of these variations. Obviously, only the terms which depend upon Ge and 08 need be considered with respect to the change which is required in the equation.
