Book Permutation Sets and Routability of Multistage Interconnection Networks MINs

Download or read book Permutation Sets and Routability of Multistage Interconnection Networks MINs written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multistage interconnection network is of the most important components for designing high-performance parallel supercomputers and for providing a powerful reconfigurable programming environment such that programming is independent of the actual computer architectures. In this research, some fundamental issues in multistage interconnection networks are investigated. Results, which promise great potential for the design of a reconfigurable high-speed parallel supercomputer with an architecture independent programming environment, are presented. First, two characteristic functions are introduced to characterize networks in a proposed class of multistage interconnection networks. Message routing schemes, network partitioning algorithms, and many other useful properties are presented. Next, a more general class of multistage interconnection networks and two more general characteristic functions are introduced. The transformation rules for one network to emulate another in the class is presented such that the programs and algorithms developed on one machine can be reused on others. Then, the permutation capability (in terms of non-conflict parallel communication) of each network is presented through the concept of network partitioning. An algorithm to determine the admissibility of any permutation on a multistage interconnection network is developed. Finally, a fault-tolerant reconfiguration scheme is presented for parallel processor systems which employ multistage interconnection networks for interprocessor communication.

Book Principles and Practices of Interconnection Networks

Download or read book Principles and Practices of Interconnection Networks written by William James Dally and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-03-06 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the greatest challenges faced by designers of digital systems is optimizing the communication and interconnection between system components. Interconnection networks offer an attractive and economical solution to this communication crisis and are fast becoming pervasive in digital systems. Current trends suggest that this communication bottleneck will be even more problematic when designing future generations of machines. Consequently, the anatomy of an interconnection network router and science of interconnection network design will only grow in importance in the coming years. This book offers a detailed and comprehensive presentation of the basic principles of interconnection network design, clearly illustrating them with numerous examples, chapter exercises, and case studies. It incorporates hardware-level descriptions of concepts, allowing a designer to see all the steps of the process from abstract design to concrete implementation. Case studies throughout the book draw on extensive author experience in designing interconnection networks over a period of more than twenty years, providing real world examples of what works, and what doesn't. Tightly couples concepts with implementation costs to facilitate a deeper understanding of the tradeoffs in the design of a practical network. A set of examples and exercises in every chapter help the reader to fully understand all the implications of every design decision.

Book An Algebraic Theory for Modeling Multistage Interconnection Networks

Download or read book An Algebraic Theory for Modeling Multistage Interconnection Networks written by S. D. Kaushik and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "An algebraic theory based on tensor products for modeling multistage interconnection networks is presented. This algebraic theory is suitable for mapping numerical algorithms on various network- based architectures. The tensor product representations of the baseline network, the reverse baseline network, the indirect binary n-cube network, the generalized cube network, the flip network and the omega network are described. Properties of multistage interconnection networks, such as network partitioning, topological equivalence, and functional equivalence are specified and verified. A mapping of the matrix transposition algorithm on a specific network using the tensor product notation is presented."

Book Design and Performance of Multistage Interconnection Networks

Download or read book Design and Performance of Multistage Interconnection Networks written by Rinkle Aggarwal and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-05 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the existing research literature a large number of regular MINs with their performance characteristics are available. However, there is relatively smaller number of irregular MINs. The present research work is an endeavour to study the importance and design of fault-tolerant MINs. It is with the use of various techniques based on high degree of parallelism, self-routing and modularity that three new dynamic irregular MINs have been proposed in order to improve their fault-tolerance, performance and reliability. The irregular networks have been considered because of their advantage of the shorter path length in comparison to their regular counterparts. The irregular dynamic MIN supports many redundant paths in the event of faults in order to dynamically reroute the data through a fault-free path and passes most of the permutations even under faults while improving the Mean-time to failure (MTTF).

Book Topological Structure and Analysis of Interconnection Networks

Download or read book Topological Structure and Analysis of Interconnection Networks written by Junming Xu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of very large scale integrated circuit technology has enabled the construction of very complex and large interconnection networks. By most accounts, the next generation of supercomputers will achieve its gains by increasing the number of processing elements, rather than by using faster processors. The most difficult technical problem in constructing a supercom puter will be the design of the interconnection network through which the processors communicate. Selecting an appropriate and adequate topological structure of interconnection networks will become a critical issue, on which many research efforts have been made over the past decade. The book is aimed to attract the readers' attention to such an important research area. Graph theory is a fundamental and powerful mathematical tool for de signing and analyzing interconnection networks, since the topological struc ture of an interconnection network is a graph. This fact has been univer sally accepted by computer scientists and engineers. This book provides the most basic problems, concepts and well-established results on the topological structure and analysis of interconnection networks in the language of graph theory. The material originates from a vast amount of literature, but the theory presented is developed carefully and skillfully. The treatment is gen erally self-contained, and most stated results are proved. No exercises are explicitly exhibited, but there are some stated results whose proofs are left to the reader to consolidate his understanding of the material.

Book Multistage Interconnection Networks for Switching Fabric Designs

Download or read book Multistage Interconnection Networks for Switching Fabric Designs written by Eddie Law and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-03 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multistage interconnection networks (MINs) can be designed for parallel computing and switching fabrics. Multistage sorting networks can be one of the many applications using interconnection networks. In this monograph, the generalized odd-even merge design is discussed in detail. Designing switching network is another important application of the multistage networks. Generally, interconnection network can be blocking, rearrangeably nonblocking, or nonblocking, or with variable connecting capabilities, from rearrangeable for permutation to nonblocking for multicast services. Novel multistage switching fabric designs, the PINIUM and PINIUM+ switches, for packet switching and multicasting are discussed. A novel switching framework of high-performance hardware schedulers for various buffering techniques based on interconnection networks are discussed.
