Book excerpt: We present recent CDF results on the properties of hadrons containing heavy quarks. These include the measurements of mass, lifetime and relative cross section of the B{sub c} meson and an updated measurement of the B{sub s}° and [Lambda]{sub b}° lifetime. We also summarize new measurements of the mass of the [Sigma]{sub b} baryon. We expect more results from the Tevatron which will accumulate more data until the end of Run II currently scheduled to conclude in 2010.

Download or read book Heavy Flavour Physics written by I. I. Bigi and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lectures collected in this book present a comprehensive review of the current knowledge of heavy-quark physics, from the points of view of both theory and experiment. Heavy Flavour Physics has accomplished enormous progress during the last few years: the last heavy quark has been discovered and the quality of the collected data on the other relatively lighter quarks has dramatically improved. On the theory side, noticeable progress has been reported on new calculations of decay rates based on various techniques, such as QCD sum rules, heavy-quark mass expansion and lattice QCD. The theory of heavy quark production is constantly improving and awaiting new results. Nevertheless there are strong reasons to believe that the Standard Model of High Energy Physics is incomplete. It exhibits very peculiar patterns for which it offers no explanation. The basic constituents of matter are arranged into three seemingly identical generations or families of quarks and leptons, differing merely in their masses. The pattern in the fermion masses, why they are families and why there are three of them is not yet understood. Furthermore it is known that at least within the standard model there is an intimate connection between the replication of families and the gateway of CP violation, in addition, the latter phenomenon is a crucial ingredient in explaining why our universe is made up almost exclusively of matter rather than being more or less matter-antimatter symmetric. How and to what extent can Heavy Flavour Physics impact on these questions? Does it offer novel windows onto New Physics beyond the Standard Model in general and onto new symmetries, such as Supersymmetry in particular? These questions constitute the central theme of this book. The material treated in this publication may serve as reference for the segment of the high-energy community actively engaged in heavy-quark physics.

Book Heavy Flavour Results from Tevatron

Download or read book Heavy Flavour Results from Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The CDF and D0 experiments finalize the analysis of their full statistics collected in the p{bar p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of √s = 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. This paper presents several new results on the properties of hadrons containing heavy b- and c-quarks obtained by both collaborations. These results include the search for the rare decays B°, B{sub s}° →??− (CDF), the study of CP asymmetry in B{sub s} → J?? decay (CDF, D0), the measurement of the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry (D0), the measurement of CP asymmetry in D° → K+K− and D° →?+?− decays (CDF), and the new measurement of the B{sub s} → D{sub s}{sup (*)+} D{sub s}{sup (*)-} branching fraction (CDF). Both experiments still expect to produce more results on the properties of heavy flavours.

Book Flavor Physics at the Tevatron

Download or read book Flavor Physics at the Tevatron written by Thomas Kuhr and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-09-30 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book reviews the latest experimental results of charm and bottom flavor physics at the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider. The measurements of lifetimes, branching ratios and mixing properties of heavy flavored hadrons provide important constraints on fundamental parameters of the standard model – the elements of the CKM matrix. Comparisons of experimental results with theoretical predictions allow to search for physics beyond the standard model or to set bounds on parameters of new physics models. The experimental techniques developed at the Tevatron are highly relevant for the next generation flavor physics experiments at the LHC. This book provides the reader a detailed summary of the status of heavy flavor physics at the end of the Tevatron data taking period and the start of the LHC program.

Book excerpt: Heavy Flavors covers the proceedings of the Third Topical Seminar on Heavy Flavors, held in San Miniato, Italy on June 17-21, 1991. The book focuses on the reactions, properties, characteristics, and transformations of heavy flavors. The publication first offers information on flavor factories and monochromatization as the way to maximum luminosity B-factories, as well as design strategies and parameters, requirements, luminosity limitations, and B-factory with monochromatization and vertical separation. The book then ponders on theoretical results in heavy quark hadroproduction; heavy flavor production at high energies; and leptonic decay constants of heavy mesons. The book examines heavy baryon transitions and the heavy quark effective theory; non universality of nucleon sea distributions probed by neutrinos and muons; and heavy flavor physics at hadron colliders. The publication is a dependable reference for readers interested in the study of heavy flavors.

Book Measurements of the Masses Lifetimes and Decay Modes of Hadrons at Tevatron

Download or read book Measurements of the Masses Lifetimes and Decay Modes of Hadrons at Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tevatron provides 1.96 TeV p{bar p} collisions and allows for collection of rich b-hadron samples to the two experiments CDF and D0. The study of heavy flavor properties represents a fruitful opportunity to investigate the flavor sector of the Standard Model (SM) and to look for hints of New Physics (NP). Here we report the first measurement of polarization amplitudes in B{sub s}° charmless decays, world leading results on b-hadron lifetimes, and measurements of several other properties of b-hadrons.

Download or read book Study of Light Heavy Flavour Hadrons written by Rai Ajay Kumar and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We regard six quarks and six leptons as the fundamental building blocks of matter. In the quark model, all the hadrons are composites of quarks and quark antiquark. In this scheme, the baryons are comprised of three quarks and the mesons comprised of quark-antiquark combinations. They possess a new degree of freedom called 'colour' which permits three identical quarks to be in the same space-spin-isospin state in accordance with Pauli's exclusion principle. This colour provides a mechanism of binding quarks inside hadrons. The dynamics of colour interaction is described by Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). It is a nonlinear theory and it shows nonperturbative character at the hadronic domain i.e. in the low energy regime. So, it is very important and challenging to study hadron physics in terms of its quark degree of freedom, which is governed by the QCD dynamics. The properties of mesons, baryons and exotic states are discussed in the present work is very useful for the research scholars in the field of Particle Physics.
