Book High Strength Low Alloy Steels

Download or read book High Strength Low Alloy Steels written by Ricardo Branco and published by Mdpi AG. This book was released on 2021-10-25 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern industry, driven by the recent environmental policies, faces an urgent need for the production of lighter and more environmentally-friendly components. High-strength low-alloy steels are key materials in this challenging scenario because they provide a balanced combination of properties, such as strength, toughness, formability, weldability, and corrosion resistance. These features make them ideal for a myriad of engineering applications which experience complex loading conditions and aggressive media, such as aeronautical and automotive components, railway parts, offshore structures, oil and gas pipelines, power transmission towers, and construction machinery, among others. The goal of this book is to foster the dissemination of the latest research devoted to high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steels from different perspectives.

Book DeGarmo s Materials and Processes in Manufacturing

Download or read book DeGarmo s Materials and Processes in Manufacturing written by J. T. Black and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-08-30 with total page 1298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in its eleventh edition, DeGarmo's Materials and Processes in Manufacturing has been a market-leading text on manufacturing and manufacturing processes courses for more than fifty years. Authors J T. Black and Ron Kohser have continued this book's long and distinguished tradition of exceedingly clear presentation and highly practical approach to materials and processes, presenting mathematical models and analytical equations only when they enhance the basic understanding of the material. Completely revised and updated to reflect all current practices, standards, and materials, the eleventh edition has new coverage of additive manufacturing, lean engineering, and processes related to ceramics, polymers, and plastics.

Book Microstructure and Properties of Materials

Download or read book Microstructure and Properties of Materials written by James Chen-Min Li and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second volume of an advanced textbook on microstructure and properties of materials. (The first volume is on aluminum alloys, nickel-based superalloys, metal matrix composites, polymer matrix composites, ceramics matrix composites, inorganic glasses, superconducting materials and magnetic materials). It covers titanium alloys, titanium aluminides, iron aluminides, iron and steels, iron-based bulk amorphous alloys and nanocrystalline materials. There are many elementary materials science textbooks, but one can find very few advanced texts suitable for graduate school courses. The contributors to this volume are experts in the subject, and hence, together with the first volume, it is a good text for graduate microstructure courses. It is a rich source of design ideas and applications, and will provide a good understanding of how microstructure affects the properties of materials.Chapter 1, on titanium alloys, covers production, thermomechanical processing, microstructure, mechanical properties and applications. Chapter 2, on titanium aluminides, discusses phase stability, bulk and defect properties, deformation mechanisms of single phase materials and polysynthetically twinned crystals, and interfacial structures and energies between phases of different compositions. Chapter 3, on iron aluminides, reviews the physical and mechanical metallurgy of Fe3Al and FeAl, the two important structural intermetallics. Chapter 4, on iron and steels, presents methodology, microstructure at various levels, strength, ductility and strengthening, toughness and toughening, environmental cracking and design against fracture for many different kinds of steels. Chapter 5, on bulk amorphous alloys, covers the critical cooling rate and the effect of composition on glass formation and the accompanying mechanical and magnetic properties of the glasses. Chapter 6, on nanocrystalline materials, describes the preparation from vapor, liquid and solid states, microstructure including grain boundaries and their junctions, stability with respect to grain growth, particulate consolidation while maintaining the nanoscale microstructure, physical, chemical, mechanical, electric, magnetic and optical properties and applications in cutting tools, superplasticity, coatings, transformers, magnetic recordings, catalysis and hydrogen storage.

Book Methods of Strengthening the Ultrahigh strength Steels

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strengthening methods for ultrahigh- trength s e ls are describ a i cus ed. The objective is to provid the designer with an idea of t e prop rti s which can be developed by various proces es and th operating personnel with an outline of procedure The processes include the conventional quench and t per, martempering, Ausforming, prestrain a d r p r, pr cipitation hardening as it applies to special steel compositions designed for this purpose (i.e., mar gi g), and austempering. Included for each method is ou line of the proces bul ion of the chanical properties whic c n be expected, iscussion of ny limitations which the process may have, and if available, an explanation of the mech nis of strengthening. Book Thermomechanical Processing of High Strength Low Alloy Steels

Download or read book Thermomechanical Processing of High Strength Low Alloy Steels written by Imao Tamura and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermomechanical Processing of High-Strength Low-Alloy Steels considers some advanced techniques and metallurgical bases for controlled-rolling. This book contains 12 chapters. In Chapter 1, the purpose of thermomechanical processing and historical survey is described, while in Chapter 2, the kinetics of phase transformations and refinement of grain size in steels are elaborated. The techniques and metallurgical bases for controlled-rolling in the recrystallization, non-recrystallization, and (? + y) regions are reviewed in Chapters 3 to 5. Chapters 6 and 7 discuss the deformation resistance during hot-rolling and restoration processes. The phase transformations during cooling following hot-rolling are mentioned in Chapter 8, followed by a summarization of the effects of alloying elements in Chapter 9. Chapters 10 and 11 deal with the mechanical properties of controlled-rolled steel and prediction and control of microstructure and properties by thermomechanical processes. The problems faced and possibilities for future developments are stated in the last chapter. This publication is recommended for physicists, metallurgists, and researchers concerned with controlled-rolling, including non-specialists who have some knowledge of metallurgy.

Download or read book Alloying written by Joseph R. Davis and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alloying: Understanding the Basics is a comprehensive guide to the influence of alloy additions on mechanical properties, physical properties, corrosion and chemical behavior, and processing and manufacturing characteristics. The coverage considers "alloying" to include any addition of an element or compound that interacts with a base metal to influence properties. Thus, the book addresses the beneficial effects of major alloy additions, inoculants, dopants, grain refiners, and other elements that have been deliberately added to improve performance, as well the detrimental effects of minor elements or residual (tramp) elements included in charge materials or that result from improper melting or refining techniques. The content is presented in a concise, user-friendly format. Numerous figures and tables are provided. The coverage has been weighted to provided the most detailed information on the most industrially important materials.
