Book The Chemistry of Propellants

Download or read book The Chemistry of Propellants written by S. S. Penner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-09-01 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of Propellants is a collection of papers and comments presented at the meeting on "The Chemistry of Propellants, held in Paris, France on June 8-12, 1959, organized by the AGARD Combustion and Propulsion Panel. This book is organized into six parts encompassing 25 chapters that serve as an introduction to the broad and important subject of propellant chemistry and propulsion applications. The first part deals with the sources, availability, and comparative costing of propulsion system. The second and third parts discuss the theoretical, thermodynamic, and experimental aspects of liquid and solid propellants. The fourth part examines the main problems concerning preparation, storage, and use of propellants for ramjet, while the fifth part looks into the factors leading to deposits in jet engines and some of the consequences of their existence. The sixth part covers the advantages of the high energy chemical propellants, including fluorine and hydrogen. Combustion and propulsion scientists and researchers will find this book beneficial.

Book Tables of Characteristic Functions for Solving Boundary value Problems of the Wave Equation with Application to Supersonic Interference

Download or read book Tables of Characteristic Functions for Solving Boundary value Problems of the Wave Equation with Application to Supersonic Interference written by Jack Norman Nielsen and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tables are presented containing 69,000 values of a set of characteristic functions which first arose in problems of supersonic wing-body interference. The tables are useful in problems of supersonic flow involving aerodynamic shapes which are wholly or in part quasi-cylinders of nearly circular cross section. A number of uses are described in the aerodynamics of bodies alone, body-body or shock-body interference, wing-body interference, the vortex-panel interference. Three illustrative examples are worked out in detail. First, the pressure field due to fuselage indentation is calculated and presented in a form independent of Mach number. Secondly, the tables are applied to a problem involving a previously unpublished solution to the Navier-Stokes equations; namely, the boundary-layer profiles of a circular cylinder moved impulsively with a constant axial force in a viscous incompressible fluid. In the final example, the wave drag of corrugated circular cylinders is calculated as a function of the number of corrugations and their wave length. Several nonaerodynamic applications are pointed out in the fields of acoustics and heat conduction. Generally speaking, the tables are applicable to boundary-value problems of the second kind involving the wave equation in three dimensions with approximately circular cylindrical boundaries or involving the unsteady heat-conduction equation in two space dimensions with nearly circular boundaries.

Book Propulsion Re Entry Physics

Download or read book Propulsion Re Entry Physics written by Michał Lunc and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Propulsion Re-Entry Physics deals with the physics of propulsion re-entry and covers topics ranging from inductive magnetoplasmadynamic (MPD) propulsion systems to launch systems and orbiting maneuvering systems. Problems of re-entry aerodynamics are considered, along with interaction problems in hypersonic fluid dynamics. Comprised of 31 chapters, this volume begins with a detailed account of the quasi-steady adiabatic vaporization and subsequent exothermic decomposition of a pure monopropellant spherical droplet in the absence of free and forced convection. The discussion then turns to results of calculations on MPD machines working in the intermittent and in the continuous mode; inductive plasma accelerators with electromagnetic standing waves; and spherical rocket motors for space and upper stage propulsion. Subsequent chapters focus on pulsed plasma satellite control systems; drag and stability of various Mars entry configurations; hypersonic laminar boundary layers around slender bodies; and effects of an entry probe gas envelope on experiments concerning planetary atmospheres. This book will appeal to students, practitioners, and research workers interested in propulsion re-entry and the accompanying physics.

Book Investigation of a Full scale Cascade type Thrust Reverser

Download or read book Investigation of a Full scale Cascade type Thrust Reverser written by Robert C. Kohl and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A double set of turning vanes was carried inside the jet tailpipe. To produce reverse thrust, the tailpipe opens into two side sections and the turning vanes move outward to form a V-shaped cascade, which deflects the exhaust-gas flow. Forward and reverse net thrust were measured over a range of engine speeds with the airplane stationary. Taxi tests were made to determine the comparative stopping distances using wheel braking and reverse thrust separately, and a combination of both. The effect of turning-vane spacing on thrust-reverser performance was determined by scale-model tests using unheated air.
