Book Propagation of Magnetohydrodynamic Waves Without Radial Attenuation

Download or read book Propagation of Magnetohydrodynamic Waves Without Radial Attenuation written by Harold Grad and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-05 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Propagation of Magnetohydrodynamic Waves Without Radial Attenuation: January 15, 1959 Since this system of equations is hyperbolic, its solu tions can be described in terms of the propagation of waveso As in the case of the ordinary wave equation, one can investi gate a simplified problem, viz. The propagation of wave fronts and, associated with this, one can construct a theory of ray optic3[l/ Ah important point to realize is that the first order (hamilton-jacobi) partial differential equation which governs the behaviour of wave fronts does not describe the entire content of the second order wave equations In particular, there may be a complicated non-steady flow left behind a wave front propagating into still air, and this residue can only be analyzed by the use of the full wave equation. The situation is more complicated in the magnetohydrodynamic case where there are, in general. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Non Linear Wave Propagation With Applications to Physics and Magnetohydrodynamics by A Jeffrey and T Taniuti

Download or read book Non Linear Wave Propagation With Applications to Physics and Magnetohydrodynamics by A Jeffrey and T Taniuti written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-04-01 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we study theoretical and practical aspects of computing methods for mathematical modelling of nonlinear systems. A number of computing techniques are considered, such as methods of operator approximation with any given accuracy; operator interpolation techniques including a non-Lagrange interpolation; methods of system representation subject to constraints associated with concepts of causality, memory and stationarity; methods of system representation with an accuracy that is the best within a given class of models; methods of covariance matrix estimation;methods for low-rank matrix approximations; hybrid methods based on a combination of iterative procedures and best operator approximation; andmethods for information compression and filtering under condition that a filter model should satisfy restrictions associated with causality and different types of memory. As a result, the book represents a blend of new methods in general computational analysis, and specific, but also generic, techniques for study of systems theory ant its particularbranches, such as optimal filtering and information compression.- Best operator approximation,- Non-Lagrange interpolation,- Generic Karhunen-Loeve transform- Generalised low-rank matrix approximation- Optimal data compression- Optimal nonlinear filtering

Book Spectrum of Hydromagnetic Waves in the Exosphere

Download or read book Spectrum of Hydromagnetic Waves in the Exosphere written by Gordon J. F. MacDonald and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A disturbance in the exosphere generates waves in three partially separable modes. These modes are described by considering the vorticity about a line of force, the two-dimensional divergence of velocity in the plane perpendicular to the line of force, and the component of velocity along the line of force. The propagation of vorticity is one-dimensional and there is no geometrical attenuation; energy is lost only through the finite conductivity of the medium. The propagation of the longitudinal velocity component is almost one-dimensional but is heavily damped at high frequencies. In a gravitational field, the medium is no longer uniform and at low frequencies the modes are coupled in a complicated way. For parallel magnetic and gravitational fields, the vorticity mode is still separable and gravity leads to anisotropic dispersion in the other modes.

Book Foundations of Plasma Physics for Physicists and Mathematicians

Download or read book Foundations of Plasma Physics for Physicists and Mathematicians written by G. J. Pert and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-04-22 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive textbook on the foundational principles of plasmas, including material on advanced topics and related disciplines such as optics, fluid dynamics, and astrophysics Foundations of Plasma Physics for Physicists and Mathematicians covers the basic physics underlying plasmas and describes the methodology and techniques used in both plasma research and other disciplines such as optics and fluid mechanics. Designed to help readers develop physical understanding and mathematical competence in the subject, this rigorous textbook discusses the underlying theoretical foundations of plasma physics as well as a range of specific problems, focused on those principally associated with fusion. Reflective of the development of plasma physics, the text first introduces readers to the collective and collisional behaviors of plasma, the single particle model, wave propagation, the kinetic effects of gases and plasma, and other foundational concepts and principles. Subsequent chapters cover topics including the hydrodynamic limit of plasma, ideal magneto-hydrodynamics, waves in MHD plasmas, magnetically confined plasma, and waves in magnetized hot and cold plasma. Written by an acknowledged expert with more than five decades’ active research experience in the field, this authoritative text: Identifies and emphasizes the similarities and differences between plasmas and fluids Describes the different types of interparticle forces that influence the collective behavior of plasma Demonstrates and stresses the importance of coherent and collective effects in plasma Contains an introduction to interactions between laser beams and plasma Includes supplementary sections on the basic models of low temperature plasma and the theory of complex variables and Laplace transforms Foundations of Plasma Physics for Physicists and Mathematicians is the ideal textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in plasma physics, and a valuable compendium for physicists working in plasma physics and fluid mechanics.
