Book Stationary Oscillations of Elastic Plates

Download or read book Stationary Oscillations of Elastic Plates written by Gavin R. Thomson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-28 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many problems in mathematical physics rely heavily on the use of elliptical partial differential equations, and boundary integral methods play a significant role in solving these equations. Stationary Oscillations of Elastic Plates studies the latter in the context of stationary vibrations of thin elastic plates. The techniques presented here reduce the complexity of classical elasticity to a system of two independent variables, modeling problems of flexural-vibrational elastic body deformation with the aid of eigenfrequencies and simplifying them to manageable, uniquely solvable integral equations. The book is intended for an audience with a knowledge of advanced calculus and some familiarity with functional analysis. It is a valuable resource for professionals in pure and applied mathematics, and for theoretical physicists and mechanical engineers whose work involves elastic plates. Graduate students in these fields can also benefit from the monograph as a supplementary text for courses relating to theories of elasticity or flexural vibrations.

Different theoretical approaches and practical rules for solving the surface wave problems are presented.

Book Nonlinear Theory of Electroelastic and Magnetoelastic Interactions

Download or read book Nonlinear Theory of Electroelastic and Magnetoelastic Interactions written by Luis Dorfmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-02-06 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a unified theory on nonlinear electro-magnetomechanical interactions of soft materials capable of large elastic deformations. The authors include an overview of the basic principles of the classic theory of electromagnetism from the fundamental notions of point charges and magnetic dipoles through to distributions of charge and current in a non-deformable continuum, time-dependent electromagnetic fields and Maxwell’s equations. They summarize relevant theories of continuum mechanics, required to account for the deformability of material and present a constitutive framework for the nonlinear magneto-and electroelastic interactions in a highly deformable material. The equations contained in the book formulate and solve a variety of representative boundary-value problems for both nonlinear magnetoelasticity and electroelasticity.

Book An Introduction to the Mathematical Theory of Vibrations of Elastic Plates

Download or read book An Introduction to the Mathematical Theory of Vibrations of Elastic Plates written by Raymond David Mindlin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book by the late R D Mindlin is destined to become a classic introduction to the mathematical aspects of two-dimensional theories of elastic plates. It systematically derives the two-dimensional theories of anisotropic elastic plates from the variational formulation of the three-dimensional theory of elasticity by power series expansions. The uniqueness of two-dimensional problems is also examined from the variational viewpoint. The accuracy of the two-dimensional equations is judged by comparing the dispersion relations of the waves that the two-dimensional theories can describe with prediction from the three-dimensional theory. Discussing mainly high-frequency dynamic problems, it is also useful in traditional applications in structural engineering as well as provides the theoretical foundation for acoustic wave devices. Sample Chapter(s). Chapter 1: Elements of the Linear Theory of Elasticity (416 KB). Contents: Elements of the Linear Theory of Elasticity; Solutions of the Three-Dimensional Equations; Infinite Power Series of Two-Dimensional Equations; Zero-Order Approximation; First-Order Approximation; Intermediate Approximations. Readership: Researchers in mechanics, civil and mechanical engineering and applied mathematics.

Book Sound and Structural Vibration

Download or read book Sound and Structural Vibration written by Frank J. Fahy and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-01-12 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of Sound and Structural Vibration was written in the early 1980s. Since then, two major developments have taken place in the field of vibroacoustics. Powerful computational methods and procedures for the numerical analysis of structural vibration, acoustical fields and acoustical interactions between fluids and structures have been developed and these are now universally employed by researchers, consultants and industrial organisations. Advances in signal processing systems and algorithms, in transducers, and in structural materials and forms of construction, have facilitated the development of practical means of applying active and adaptive control systems to structures for the purposes of reducing or modifying structural vibration and the associated sound radiation and transmission. In this greatly expanded and extensively revised edition, the authors have retained most of the analytically based material that forms the pedagogical content of the first edition, and have expanded it to present the theoretical foundations of modern numerical analysis. Application of the latter is illustrated by examples that have been chosen to complement the analytical approaches to solving fairly simple problems of sound radiation, transmission and fluid-structural coupling that are presented in the first edition. The number of examples of experimental data that relate to the theoretical content, and illustrate important features of vibroacoustic interaction, has been augmented by the inclusion of a selection from the vast amount of material published during the past twenty five years. The final chapter on the active control of sound and vibration has no precursor in the first edition.* Covers theoretical approaches to modeling and analysis* Highly applicable to challenges in industry and academia* For engineering students to use throughout their career

Book Elastic Wave Propagation

Download or read book Elastic Wave Propagation written by F. McCarthy and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-06-20 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains a timely collection of research papers on the latest developments in the ever-increasing use of elastic waves in a variety of contexts. There are reports on wave-propagation in various types of media: in both isotropic and anisotropic bodies; in homogeneous and inhomogeneous media; in media with cracks or inclusions in random media; and in layered composites. The bulk of the papers are concerned with propagation in elastic media, but also included are viscoelastic, thermoelastic and magneto-electroelastic wave propagation, as well as waves in porous and piezo-electric bodies. Consideration is given to propagation in bodies as diverse as stretched elastic strings to surfaces such as thin walled cylinders, and thin films under stress. Applications considered include the determination of the depth of cracks; analysis of ground motions generated by a finite fault in seismology; surface wave spreading on piezo-electric solids; and dynamical stress intensity factors. Most of the papers are theoretical in nature, and many are complemented by numerical studies. Also included are a general survey on experimental techniques, and reports on experimental work. The volume will be of interest to those who do theoretical studies of elastic wave propagation and to those who apply elastic waves whether in seismology, non-destructive testing, the fabrication of devices or underwater acoustics, etc.

Book Physical Foundations of Technical Acoustics

Download or read book Physical Foundations of Technical Acoustics written by I. Malecki and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 770 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical Foundations of Technical Acoustics discusses theoretical foundations of acoustical engineering. It is not so much a technical compendium as a systematic statement of physical laws so conceived that technologists might find in it all the information they need to become acquainted with the physical meaning and mathematical expression of phenomena they encounter in their work. To facilitate the acquirement of notions, which lie beyond a layman's grasp, the plan of narration adopted consists in beginning with the simplest idealized cases and then gradually moving on to the truest possible picture of real phenomena. Thus, the first part of the book, dealing with the acoustic field, begins with lossless fluid media, and passes then through perfectly elastic solid media to the real ones, showing losses and relaxations. In the second part, discussing the acoustical systems, the reader is led up from the simplest vibrating system with one degree of freedom to inhomogeneous spatial systems. Classical problems of theoretical acoustics are linked to the questions which appeared still to be the subjects of research. A special chapter has been written to deal with nonlinear acoustics, in consideration of continually growing applications of the acoustic fields of high intensity.
