Download or read book Limit Cycles of Differential Equations written by Colin Christopher and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-16 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook contains the lecture series originally delivered at the "Advanced Course on Limit Cycles of Differential Equations" in the Centre de Rechercha Mathematica Barcelona in 2006. It covers the center-focus problem for polynomial vector fields and the application of abelian integrals to limit cycle bifurcations. Both topics are related to the authors' interests in Hilbert's sixteenth problem, but would also be of interest to those working more generally in the qualitative theory of dynamical systems.
Download or read book Bifurcation Theory and Methods of Dynamical Systems written by Dingjun Luo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamical bifurcation theory is concerned with the changes that occur in the global structure of dynamical systems as parameters are varied. This book makes recent research in bifurcation theory of dynamical systems accessible to researchers interested in this subject. In particular, the relevant results obtained by Chinese mathematicians are introduced as well as some of the works of the authors which may not be widely known. The focus is on the analytic approach to the theory and methods of bifurcations. The book prepares graduate students for further study in this area, and it serves as a ready reference for researchers in nonlinear sciences and applied mathematics.

Download or read book Keynesian Sraffian Computable and Dynamic Economics written by Kumaraswamy Velupillai and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-08 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores an alternative approach to the conventional, market-based, view of economic theory and economic policy, at theoretical, numerical and applicable levels. The chapters provide a theoretical, empirical, and algorithmic approach to marcodynamics, Sraffian economics, and current policy issues. Post-Keynesian macroeconomics, business cycle theory, the trade cycle, microfoundations, and the Philips Machine are also covered. This book aims to challenge orthodox ideas and provide a lens through which to honour the work of Stefano Zambelli. It will be of relevant to students and academics interested in economics.
Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamical Economics and Chaotic Motion written by Hans-Walter Lorenz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Usually, the first edition of a book still contains a multiplicity of typographic, con ceptional, and computational errors even if one believes the opposite at the time of publication. As this book did not represent a counterexample to this rule, the current second edition offers a chance to remove at least the known shortcomings. The book has been partly re-organized. The previously rather long Chapter 4 has been split into two separate chapters dealing with discrete-time and continuous time approaches to nonlinear economic dynamics. The short summary of basic properties of linear dynamical systems has been banned to an appendix because the line of thought in the chapter seems to have been unnecessarily interrupted by these technical details and because the book concentrates on nonlinear systems. This appendix, which mainly deals with special formal properties of dynamical sys tems, also contains some new material on invariant subspaces and center-manifold reductions. A brief introduction into the theory of lags and operators is followed by a few remarks on the relation between the 'true' properties of dynamical systems and their behavior observable in numerical experiments. Additional changes in the main part of the book include a re-consideration of Popper's determinism vs. inde terminism discussion in the light of chaotic properties of deterministic, nonlinear systems in Chapter 1. An investigation of a simultaneous price-quantity adjustment process, a more detailed inquiry into the uniqueness property of limit cycles, and a short presentation of relaxation oscillations are included in Chapter 2.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prerequisite for the study of this book is a knowledge of matrices and the essentials of functions of a complex variable. It has been developed from courses given by the authors and probably contains more material than will ordinarily be covered in a one-year course. It is hoped that the book will be a useful text in the application of differential equations as well as for the pure mathematician.

Download or read book Qualitative Theory of Planar Differential Systems written by Freddy Dumortier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-10-13 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with systems of polynomial autonomous ordinary differential equations in two real variables. The emphasis is mainly qualitative, although attention is also given to more algebraic aspects as a thorough study of the center/focus problem and recent results on integrability. In the last two chapters the performant software tool P4 is introduced. From the start, differential systems are represented by vector fields enabling, in full strength, a dynamical systems approach. All essential notions, including invariant manifolds, normal forms, desingularization of singularities, index theory and limit cycles, are introduced and the main results are proved for smooth systems with the necessary specifications for analytic and polynomial systems.
Download or read book The Dynamics of Technology written by G. Barbiroli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technology is taking on an increasingly central and determining role in so ciety, and can provide contradictory results: wealth on the one hand, but also unemployment, environmental imbalances and other social problems on the other. Manufacturing techniques and production organization are chosen in every country based mainly on the specific needs of the companies, while the real needs of each population are often quite different. Already, in order to prevent all forms of technology from becoming in creasingly "invasive", towards both the natural supply of resources and the specific - though highly differentiated - needs of humanity, technological paths must be identified and followed which are capable of making the vari ous needs compatible, from the standpoint of sustainable development, the conservation and increase in value of natural resources, and the quality of development. This will become increasingly important in the future. This goal is undoubtedly ambitious and difficult to achieve; however, evi dence of the problems caused by generalized, uncontrolled use of technolo gy, all over the world, leads us to believe that intense efforts must be made to achieve this aim. If not, humankind runs the risk of an irreversible degra dation of the most important aspects of economic development and its quali ty. Within this framework, those companies that produce goods and services obviously occupy a central, active role, which they must play with a view both to competitiveness and overall qualification and to contributing to the objectives of sustainable development.
