Book The Comprehensive Local School

Download or read book The Comprehensive Local School written by Wayne Sailor and published by Brookes Publishing Company. This book was released on 1989 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: " ... "The authors of this comprehensive book ... [advocate] a substantial change in the way educational programs are typically delivered. They propose creating the comprehensive local school (CLS), that is, using neighborhood public schools to meet the educational needs of all students, regardless of their individual characteristics and regardless of how diverse, extensive, or costly their special service requirements. As an adaptable service delivery model for students with special needs, the CLS model helps promote development of a unified, comprehensive educational delivery that is consistent with federal policies. Research reveals that the local school is educationally beneficial to students with special needs. The five phases of this model extend those benefits from preschool through high school and beyond for students with disabilities."

Book Opportunities for Improving Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities

Download or read book Opportunities for Improving Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the general public in the United States assumes children to be generally healthy and thriving, a substantial and growing number of children have at least one chronic health condition. Many of these conditions are associated with disabilities and interfere regularly with children's usual activities, such as play or leisure activities, attending school, and engaging in family or community activities. In their most severe forms, such disorders are serious lifelong threats to children's social, emotional well-being and quality of life, and anticipated adult outcomes such as for employment or independent living. However, pinpointing the prevalence of disability among children in the U.S. is difficult, as conceptual frameworks and definitions of disability vary among federal programs that provide services to this population and national surveys, the two primary sources for prevalence data. Opportunities for Improving Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities provides a comprehensive analysis of health outcomes for school-aged children with disabilities. This report reviews and assesses programs, services, and supports available to these children and their families. It also describes overarching program, service, and treatment goals; examines outreach efforts and utilization rates; identifies what outcomes are measured and how they are reported; and describes what is known about the effectiveness of these programs and services.

Book Patterns of Educational Integration

Download or read book Patterns of Educational Integration written by Barrie Wade and published by Symposium Books Ltd. This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The integration of children with special educational needs was a crucial issue for the 1990s. Many countries were reassessing and reorganising their systems of provision in the light of legislation to provide entitlement for all. There was noticeable worldwide trend away from entirely separate provision for learners with special educational needs. At the same time there was no agreement on how exactly they should be integrated with other students. The reader will gain a clear understanding of educational provision, the societal forces that push for greater integration and the attitudes that promote or hinder educational success.
