It is the one most critical component in the development of proficiency as a reading learned citizen. There are several approaches, varying slightly in their focuses and procedures, in which to engage students of all ages in read aloud experiences with tried and true, result-based methodology. Teachers will often acknowledge the importance of reading aloud to their classes, but as unfortunate as it may be, will often omit that element of reading instruction if time does not allow. Parent involvement and follow through, too, is an irreplaceable piece in the process, yet not always a guarantee. For a variety of reasons, parents may or may not prioritize nightly reading practice or stop to enjoy this critical lap time for modeling the importance and the pure pleasure involved in a reading experience. Parent education and training can remedy this often forgotten (yet irreplaceable) piece. Using as a guide the idea that reading is not just decoding, but also comprehending and feeling, suggestions for both parent and teacher inservices are detailed and explained.
