Book Proactive Project Management

Download or read book Proactive Project Management written by Morten Fangel and published by Van Haren. This book was released on 2018-05-23 with total page 695 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One mindset is that the project management process itself should be lead. You promote proactive project management by planning and evaluating relevant management initiatives – and by adapting the level of effort and the tools for the project’s degree of complexity. The entire book can be considered as a method with tools for such planning and evaluating the project management. Another mindset is that the project management is not only a task for the project managers. The project owners, the participants and other parties must also be proactively involved in the management process. Such co-management means that the analyses and plans created will become more relevant– and have more impact on the project process. The general tool for such an approach, as presented in this book, is to facilitate the management activities. The entire book is a supplement to the existing literature on project management. The new mindsets and methods promote the idea of being a more reflective project manager – and thereby gaining even more benefit from knowledge obtained from other books and from personal experiences.

Book Reconstructing Project Management

Download or read book Reconstructing Project Management written by Peter W. G. Morris and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This hugely informative and wide-ranging analysis on the management of projects, past, present and future, is written both for practitioners and scholars. Beginning with a history of the discipline’s development, Reconstructing Project Management provides an extensive commentary on its practices and theoretical underpinnings, and concludes with proposals to improve its relevancy and value. Written not without a hint of attitude, this is by no means simply another project management textbook. The thesis of the book is that ‘it all depends on how you define the subject’; that much of our present thinking about project management as traditionally defined is sometimes boring, conceptually weak, and of limited application, whereas in reality it can be exciting, challenging and enormously important. The book draws on leading scholarship and case studies to explore this thesis. The book is divided into three major parts. Following an Introduction setting the scene, Part 1 covers the origins of modern project management – how the discipline has come to be what it is typically said to be; how it has been constructed – and the limitations of this traditional model. Part 2 presents an enlarged view of the discipline and then deconstructs this into its principal elements. Part 3 then reconstructs these elements to address the challenges facing society, and the implications for the discipline, in the years ahead. A final section reprises the sweep of the discipline’s development and summarises the principal insights from the book. This thoughtful commentary on project (and program, and portfolio) management as it has developed and has been practiced over the last 60-plus years, and as it may be over the next 20 to 40, draws on examples from many industry sectors around the world. It is a seminal work, required reading for everyone interested in projects and their management.

Book Power in Projects Programs and Portfolios

Download or read book Power in Projects Programs and Portfolios written by John Ryding Olsson and published by Djoef Publishing. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Power in Projects, Programs, and Portfolios is the best-selling Danish project management book that highlights the immensely successful Scandinavian approach to leadership within project management, and it takes a more holistic approach to project work and project management. The authoritative book deals with classic project management disciplines and focuses on the essential link between strategic priorities, any program's impact and a project's powerful execution. It takes an in-depth look at areas such as change management, change communication, benefit tracking, program management, and portfolio management. The book offers a large number of practical tools within projects management and leadership with on-line access to concrete and easy-to-use practical tools and templates. Recent years have seen a pronounced increase in the need for professional project management and the careful handling of associated portfolios. This success is essential as key projects become ever more vital for the development and survival of organizations. It is no longer enough for projects to 'just' produce a set of deliverables. They are expected to make a genuine difference within the organization and effect that organization's role in the wider world. Consequently, project management is not just about project managers, it's about how senior management handles crucial portfolios successfully as well. Such active project management requires power, strength, drive, and energy, not only within the individual project itself, but also within the organization's programs and entire project portfolio. It places new demands on both the project manager and their senior management. Book Operational Research and the Social Sciences

Download or read book Operational Research and the Social Sciences written by S.A. Cropper and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty five years ago, in 1964, The Operational Research Society's first International Conference (held at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge) took as its theme "Operational Research and the Social Sciences". The Conference sessions were organised around topics such as: Organisations and Control; Social Effects of Policies; Conflict Resolution; The Systems Concept; Models, Decisions and Operational Research. An examination of the published proceedings (J.R.Lawrence ed., 1966, Operational Research and the Social Sciences, Tavistock, London) reveals a distinct contrast between the types of contribution made by the representatives of the two academic communities involved. Nevertheless, the Conference served to break down some barriers, largely of ignorance about the objects, methods and findings of each concern. In the ensuing twenty five years, although debate has continued about the relationship between OR and the social sciences, mutual understanding has proved more difficult to achieve than many must have hoped for in 1964.

Book excerpt: A fresh, effective, and enduring way to lead—starting with your next interaction Most leaders feel the inevitable interruptions in their jam-packed days are troublesome. But in TouchPoints, Conant and Norgaard argue that these—and every point of contact with other people—are overlooked opportunities for leaders to increase their impact and promote their organization's strategy and values. Through previously untold stories from Conant's tenure as CEO of Campbell Soup Company and Norgaard's vast consulting experience, the authors show that a leader's impact and legacy are built through hundreds, even thousands, of interactive moments in time. The good news is that anyone can develop "TouchPoint" mastery by focusing on three essential components: head, heart, and hands. TouchPoints speaks to the theory and craft of leadership, promoting a balanced presence of rational, authentic, active, and wise leadership practices. Leadership mastery in the smallest and otherwise ordinary moments can transform aimless activity in individuals and entropy in organizations into focused energy—one magical moment at a time.
