Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data has become a key factor for the competitiveness of private and state actors alike. Personal data in particular fuels manifold corresponding data ecosystems - in many cases based on the disclosure decision of an individual. This volume presents the proceedings of the bidt "Vectors of Data Disclosure" conference held in Munich 2022. The contributions give comparative insights into the data disclosure process - combining perspectives of law, cultural studies, and business information systems. The authors thereby tackle the question in which way regulation and cultural settings shape (or do not shape) respective decisions in different parts of the world. The volume also includes interim results of the corresponding bidt research project - including in-depth reports covering the regulatory and cultural dimensions of data disclosure in eight different countries / regions worldwide, a business information systems model of the disclosure decision process, and empirical studies. The volume thereby lays the ground for interdisciplinary informed policy decisions and gives guidance to stakeholders.

Download or read book Democracy by Disclosure written by Mary Graham and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2002-08-26 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In December 1999, the Institute of Medicine shocked the nation by reporting that as many as 98,000 Americans died each year from mistakes in hospitals--twice the number killed in auto accidents. Instead of strict rules and harsh penalties to reduce those risks, the Institute called for a system of standardized disclosure of medical errors. If it worked, it would create economic and political pressures for hospitals to improve their practices. Since the mid-1980s, Congress and state legislatures have approved scores of new disclosure laws to fight racial discrimination, reduce corruption, and improve services. The most ambitious systems aim to reduce risks in everyday life--risks from toxic pollution, contaminants in drinking water, nutrients in packaged foods, lead paint, workplace hazards, and SUV rollovers. Unlike traditional government warnings, they require corporations and other organizations to produce standardized factual information at regular intervals about risks they create. Legislated transparency has become a mainstream instrument of social policy. Mary Graham argues that these requirements represent a remarkable policy innovation. Enhanced by computers and the Internet, they are creating a new techno-populism--an optimistic conviction that information itself can improve the lives of ordinary citizens and encourage hospitals, manufacturers, food processors, banks, airlines, and other organizations to further public priorities. Drawing on detailed profiles of disclosure systems for toxic releases, nutritional labeling, and medical errors, Graham explains why the move toward greater transparency has flourished during a time of regulatory retrenchment and why corporations have often supported these massive raids on proprietary information. However, Democracy by Disclosure, sounds a cautionary note. Just as systems of financial disclosure have come under new scrutiny in the wake of Enron's collapse, systems of social disclosure deserve car

Book Experiment and Exploration Forms of World Disclosure

Download or read book Experiment and Exploration Forms of World Disclosure written by Sönke Ahrens and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-03-18 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with contemporary epistemological questions, connecting Educational Philosophy with the field of Science- and Technology Studies. It can be understood as a draft of a general theory of world-disclosure, which is in its core a distinction between two forms of world-disclosure: experiment and exploration. These two forms have never been clearly distinguished before. The focus lies on the experimental form of world-disclosure, which is described in detail and in contrast to the explorational form along the line of twenty-one characteristics, which are mainly derived from empirical studies of experimental work in the field of natural sciences. It can also be understood as an attempt to integrate elements of the Anglo-Saxon Philosophy of Science with elements of the German tradition of Educational Philosophy. This is also reflected in the style of writing. In accordance to the content-level of the book, the argument for experimental forms of world-disclosure is written in an essayistic, readable style, which can be understood as an experimental form of writing. This book is a translation of the doctoral thesis 'Experiment und Exploration. Bildung als experimentelle Form der Welterschließung' (summa cum laude). The thesis was published in German in 2010 by Transcript (Bielefeld) in the series called 'Theorie Bilden', edited by Prof. Dr. Hannelore Faulstich-Wieland, Prof. Dr. Hans-Christoph Koller, Prof. Dr. Karl-Josef Pazzini and Prof. Dr. Michael Wimmer.

Book A D After Disclosure

Download or read book A D After Disclosure written by Richard Dolan and published by Red Wheel/Weiser. This book was released on 2012-05-22 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "What if the UFO cover-up is real and what if it ended? After Disclosure poses this fascinating question and looks at the societal consequences of such a revelation. Richard Dolan and Bryce Zabel have produced a thoughtful and provocative analysis that goes well beyond the usual scope of books on UFOs and alien life." —Nick Pope, Former Chief of UK Ministry of Defence UFO Desk What if UFO secrecy ended tomorrow? The transition from B.C. (Before Confirmation) to A.D. (After Disclosure) is the ultimate "what if?" scenario in which the calendar is reset and history begins again. This work of speculative non-fiction combines meticulous fact-finding from historian/researcher Richard M. Dolan and forward-leaning scenarios from journalist/screenwriter Bryce Zabel on the world's most mind-bending subject. The authors predict radical changes after official acknowledgment that at least some UFOs are intelligently controlled craft from somewhere other than Earth. A.D. After Disclosure isn't afraid to make mind-blowing, specific predictions, such as: Congress will hold Watergate-style hearings and ask secret-keepers, "What did you know and when did you know it?" The first decade A.D. (After Disclosure) will be like a high-tech 1960s, spawning massive cultural and societal change. Abductees will file a class-action suit against the government for withholding critical information. All the textbooks on planet Earth--from history to science--will need an immediate review. Whether disclosure leads to social panic or ushers in a new era of unity and peace, it will undoubtedly be a game-changing event.
