Book excerpt: Ares Rising What has the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and the supposed hoaxed Moon landings have in common? Is there a connection between the infamous Watergate scandal and the supposed Aurora super aircraft project? Project Ares is America's most secret project, beyond even the security of the Manhattan Project that developed the first atomic bomb. Spanning several decades, the project has unlimited and, more importantly, unaccountable funding and resources. So when the project is threatened the leaders fight back with deadly force, even when the threat comes from the highest levels of their own government and the struggle is likely to lead to nuclear war. This is Brian Phillipson's third book, his second, Pharaoh's Treasure, was shortlisted in the USA Best Book of the Year Awards 2008.

Book Software Architectures for Product Families

Download or read book Software Architectures for Product Families written by Frank van der Linden and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-29 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of a third workshop on the theme of Software Arc- tecture for Product Families. The first two workshops were organised by the ESPRIT project ARES, and were called “Development and Evolution of Software Architectures for Product Families”. Proceedings of the first workshop, held in November 1996, were only published electronically at: “http://www.dit.upm.es/~ares/”. Proceedings of the second workshop, held in February 1998, were published as Springer LNCS 1429. The ARES project was finished in February 1999. Several partners continued - operation in a larger consortium, ITEA project 99005, ESAPS. As such it is part of the European Eureka ! 2023 programme. The third workshop was organised as part of the ESAPS project. In order to make the theme of the workshop more generic we decided to rename it “International Workshop on Software Architectures for Product Families”. As with the earlier two workshops we managed to bring together people working in the so- ware architecture of product families and in software product-line engineering. Submitted papers were grouped in five sessions. Moreover, we introduced two s- sions, one on configuration management and one on evolution, because we felt that d- cussion was needed on these topics, but there were no submitted papers for these subjects. Finally, we introduced a surveys session, giving an overview of the present situation in Europe, focussed on ESAPS, and in the USA, focussed on the SEI Product Line Systems Program.

Book excerpt: For readers of Malcolm Gladwell, Decision Time is an inspirational problem-solving and decision-making book to identify and fight off the common enemies of making good decisions—inertia, procrastination, and indecision—and empower you to make the choices that matter the most using growth mindset. Should I change careers? Is it time to end my relationship? Can I move halfway across the world? We have to make choices every day, big and small, but it's the life-changing ones that often cause us to freeze or react too quickly, without thinking. What can we do differently? Laurence Alison and Neil Shortland have spent over 20 years helping soldiers, police officers, doctors, and other professionals in high-stakes environments make tough decisions when lives are on the line. In Decision Time, they show us how those same decision-making techniques apply to everyday life, whether that's deciding to take a new job or change careers later in life, end a relationship, move across the world, or declare your undying love for your best friend. Highly accessible and interactive, Decision Time will guide you through each step of the decision-making process so next time you a find yourself at a crossroads, you'll be able to make your way with confidence. Praise for Decision Time: "A highly readable and entertaining book... The authors have managed the trick of applying their work with military and security professionals to the high-consequence choices people face in everyday life. Book Cybersecurity Readiness

Download or read book Cybersecurity Readiness written by Dave Chatterjee and published by SAGE Publications, Incorporated. This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cybersecurity has traditionally been the purview of information technology professionals, who possess specialized knowledge and speak a language that few outside of their department can understand. In our current corporate landscape, however, cybersecurity awareness must be an organization-wide management competency in order to mitigate major threats to an organization’s well-being—and be prepared to act if the worst happens. With rapidly expanding attacks and evolving methods of attack, organizations are in a perpetual state of breach and have to deal with this existential threat head-on. Cybersecurity preparedness is a critical and distinctive competency, and this book is intended to help students and practitioners develop and enhance this capability, as individuals continue to be both the strongest and weakest links in a cyber defense system. In addition to providing the non-specialist with a jargon-free overview of cybersecurity threats, Dr. Chatterjee focuses most of the book on developing a practical and easy-to-comprehend management framework and success factors that will help leaders assess cybersecurity risks, address organizational weaknesses, and build a collaborative culture that is informed and responsive. Through brief case studies, literature review, and practical tools, he creates a manual for the student and professional alike to put into practice essential skills for any workplace.
