First year) students. It is based on UGC model curriculum and as per revised syllabus of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad (w.e.f. June 2013). Present book covers the syllabus of Organic chemistry and Inorganic chemistry papers prescribed for first semester followed by Physical and Inorganic chemistry papers of second semester. The prime objective behind writing this book is to facilitate our dear students for grasping better knowledge of chemistry in an easy, lucid and understandable language. Each topic in the text is provided with point-wise description and elaborated figures. Furthermore, separate Question Bank comprising of long answer questions which are frequently asked in the university examinations with lot of multiple choice questions have been provided at the end of each chapter which will help students to face successfully not only the university examinations but also competitive exams like GATE, SET, NET/JRF, IIT, PET etc. through this platform.

Book Progressive Enlightenment

Download or read book Progressive Enlightenment written by Leslie Tomory and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2012-03-02 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An argument that the gas industry was the first integrated large-scale technological network and that it signaled a new wave of industrial innovation. In Progressive Enlightenment, Leslie Tomory examines the origins of the gaslight industry, from invention to consolidation as a large integrated urban network. Tomory argues that gas was the first integrated large-scale technological network, a designation usually given to the railways. He shows how the first gas network was constructed and stabilized through the introduction of new management structures, the use of technical controls, and the application of means to constrain the behavior of the users of gas lighting. Tomory begins by describing the contributions of pneumatic chemistry and industrial distillation to the development of gas lighting, then explores the bifurcation between the Continental and British traditions in distillation technology. He examines the establishment and consolidation of the new industry by the Birmingham firm Boulton & Watt, and describes the deployment of the network strategy by the entrepreneur Frederick Winsor. Tomory argues that the gas industry represented a new wave of technological innovation in industry because of its dependence on formal scientific research, its need for large amounts of capital, and its reliance on business organization beyond small firms and partnerships—all of which signaled a departure from the artisanal nature and limited deployment of inventions earlier in the Industrial Revolution. Gas lighting was the first important realization of the Enlightenment dream of science in the service of industry.

Download or read book Progressive Development of Practical Skills in Chemistry written by Stuart W. Bennett and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 1999 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is widely recognised that students on present-day chemistry courses need to develop a portfolio of practical skills. Progressive Development of Practical Skills in Chemistry is the second in a series of publications from the Royal Society of Chemistry which are directed towards the early part of an undergraduate chemistry programme. This book features a variety of practical activities, spanning a wide range of chemistry. Activities are arranged in order of increasing skills development and demand, and each is accompanied by a guide for demonstrators. A technical guide is also included detailing all reagent and equipment requirements. Trialled in universities across the UK pre-publication, students and lecturers will welcome this book as an aid to the development of skills in degree courses.

Book Introduction to Green Chemistry

Download or read book Introduction to Green Chemistry written by John Andraos and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-03-10 with total page 1406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in green chemistry and clean processes has grown so much in recent years that topics such as fluorous biphasic catalysis, metal organic frameworks, and process intensification, which were barely mentioned in the First Edition, have become major areas of research. In addition, government funding has ramped up the development of fuel cells and biofuels. This reflects the evolving focus from pollution remediation to pollution prevention. Copiously illustrated with more than 800 figures, the Third Edition provides an update from the frontiers of the field. It features supplementary exercises at the end of each chapter relevant to the chemical examples introduced in each chapter. Particular attention is paid to a new concluding chapter on the use of green metrics as an objective tool to demonstrate proof of synthesis plan efficiency and to identify where further improvements can be made through fully worked examples relevant to the chemical industry. NEW AND EXPANDED RESEARCH TOPICS Metal-organic frameworks Metrics Solid acids for alkylation of isobutene by butanes Carbon molecular sieves Mixed micro- and mesoporous solids Organocatalysis Process intensification and gas phase enzymatic reactions Hydrogen storage for fuel cells Reactive distillation Catalysts in action on an atomic scale UPDATED AND EXPANDED CURRENT EVENTS TOPICS Industry resistance to inherently safer chemistry Nuclear power Removal of mercury from vaccines Removal of mercury and lead from primary explosives Biofuels Uses for surplus glycerol New hard materials to reduce wear Electronic waste Smart growth The book covers traditional green chemistry topics, including catalysis, benign solvents, and alternative feedstocks. It also discusses relevant but less frequently covered topics with chapters such as "Chemistry of Long Wear" and "Population and the Environment." This coverage highlights the importance of chemistry to everyday life and demonstrates the benefits the expanded exploitation of green chemistry can have for society.
