Book An Atlas of Atherosclerosis Progression and Regression

Download or read book An Atlas of Atherosclerosis Progression and Regression written by Herbert C. Stary and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-07-27 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This uniquely illustrated atlas and text explains the evolution of atherosclerosis from initially minimal lipid deposits in the arteries of children, through histologically advanced but clinically silent lesions present in most younger adults, to lesion types that obstruct the vascular lumen and produce symptoms. To physicians and researchers, the volume offers a standard framework of histological morphologies of atherosclerotic lesions, providing a basis for correlation with morphologies determined by a variety of clinical imaging techniques and for recognizing changes in lesion progression, stabilization, or regression.

Book Imaging Coronary Atherosclerosis

Download or read book Imaging Coronary Atherosclerosis written by Stephen J. Nicholls and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-04 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over 50 years, coronary angiography has been the mainstay of diagnosing and quantifying the extent of coronary artery disease. However appreciation of the inherent limitations of conventional angiography has led to a plethora of new imaging modalities, each with their relative strengths and potential pitfalls. Advances in these techniques have given clinicians, as well as researchers, an overwhelming amount of information and the need for thoughtful interpretation. This outstanding book provides a comprehensive overview of the current status of imaging of coronary atherosclerosis. Covering the wide variety of available imaging modalities, the book provides state-of-the-art knowledge from leading authorities in each area. In their discussion, the authors include both invasive and non-invasive modalities, including the gold standard coronary angiography, the growing field of IVUS, and novel techniques such as functional imaging, molecular imaging, and the integration of biomarkers. The key concepts and practical information given in this volume will provide the reader with the necessary understanding to choosing appropriate imaging studies and building confidence in their skill set with each.

Book An Atlas of Atherosclerosis Progression and Regression

Download or read book An Atlas of Atherosclerosis Progression and Regression written by Herbert C. Stary and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-06-15 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Completely revised and updated, the Second Edition of the Atlas of Atherosclerosis Progression and Regression contains new material and new illustrations from Dr. Stary's groundbreaking work in the field of atherosclerosis diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. Over 100 photographs show arterial and lesion structure and individual components in unprecedented detail. These images allow you to compare and contrast healthy arteries with those developing and regressing lesions. They illustrate the successive steps in the natural history of human atherosclerotic disease from the microscopically visible, lipid-filled macrophages in susceptible locations of arteries to lesion forms that produce clinical symptoms. The book provides an up-to-date, pathology-based framework of morphologies of atherosclerotic vascular lesions that serves as a basis for correlation with morphologies determined by a variety of clinical imaging techniques. Demonstrating the evolution of arterial lesions fo rm the clinically silent the clinically relevant, An Atlas of Atherosclerosis Progression and Regression is a teaching aid and diagnostic tool for recognizing changes in lesion progression, stabilization, or regression. About the author: Dr. Stary is Professor of Pathology at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He came to New Orleans via the Departments of Pathology of the McGill (Montreal) and Yale (New Haven) Medical Schools. For 7 years, Dr. Stary also served as chairman of the American Heart Association's Committee on Vascular Lesions.

Book Advances in Quantitative Coronary Arteriography

Download or read book Advances in Quantitative Coronary Arteriography written by Johan H. C. Reiber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 617 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this fourth book in the series on quantitative coronary arteriography (QCA) with the earlier three volumes published in 1986, 1988 and 1991, the latest developments in this exciting field are covered. Both the methodolog ical and clinical application aspects of these advances are presented in a comprehensive manner in a total of 37 chapters by world renowned experts. The book is subdivided into a total of eight parts, beginning with the more methodological issues, such as QCA and other modalities (3 chapters), cine film versus digital arteriography (3 chapters), quality control in QCA (4 chapters), and coronary blood flow and flow reserve (3 chapters). Since QCA has been well established as the technique for the assessment of regression and progression in atherosclerotic disease, and of restenosis after recanaliz ation procedures, major clinical trials in both groups are described extensively by their principal investigators in a total of 11 chapters. In addition, the QCA results after the application of various recanalization techniques are presented in another eight chapters. In the last part the experiences with various intracoronary prostheses with the emphasis on QCA are discussed in five chapters. This large increase in application oriented chapters means that QCA is well alive and gaining momentum. Although the accuracy and precision of the analytical methods steadily improve with the increasing complexity of the algorithms, there is still always the human factor involved in these processes in terms of frame selection, segment definition, etc.

Book Frontiers in Cardiovascular Health

Download or read book Frontiers in Cardiovascular Health written by Naranjan S. Dhalla and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Frontiers in Cardiovascular Health varies between and within nations, depend ing upon the level at which the battle is fought for better cardiovascular health. According to the 1997 World Health Report, 15 million deaths (i. e. 30% of the total number of deaths) were attributable to cardiovascular diseases and this number is on the rise. The projection for the year 2020 is quite alarming with an expected cardiovascular mortality reaching 50 million. Much of this burden is projected to occur in developing countries, more specifically in the most populous countries of the world, namely China and India. These countries are already burdened with infectious and parasitic diseases and are trying to eradicate such diseases. With increasing life expectancies people all over the world, especially in developing coun tries, are exposed to degenerative atherosclerosis resulting in increased cardiovascu lar mortality and morbidity. In developing countries, resources available for health care are very limited. For example many of the African countries spend less than $10 per person per year on his/her entire health care let alone cardiovascular health. The average health care budget for nearly two thirds of the global population is well below $100 per year, on a per capita basis. Therefore, in developing countries health promotion and primary prevention are the frontiers by necessity. Improving awareness and health education is not only a matter of choice but is an absolute necessity.
