Book The Artistic Foundations of Nations and Citizens

Download or read book The Artistic Foundations of Nations and Citizens written by Ann Ward and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-09-28 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines politics through the lens of art and literature. Through discussion on great works of visual art, literature, and cultural representations of political thought in the medieval, early modern, and American eras, it explores the relevance of the nation-state to human freedom and flourishing, as well as the concept of citizenship and statesmanship that it implies, in contrast to that of the ‘global community’. The essays in this volume focus on shifting notions of various core political concepts like citizenship, republicanism, and nationalism from antiquity to the present-day to provide a systematic understanding of their evolving histories through Western Art and literature. It highlights works such as the Bayeux Tapestry, Shakespeare’s Henry V, Henry VI, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twain’s Joan of Arc and Hermann’s Nichts als Gespenster, among several other canonical works of political interest. Further, it questions if we should now look beyond the nation-state to some form of tans-national, global community to pursue the human freedom desired by progressives, or look at smaller forms of community resembling the polis to pursue the friendship and nobility valued by the ancients. The volume will be invaluable to students and teachers of political science, especially political theory and philosophy, visual arts, and world literature.

Book What I Have Learned

Download or read book What I Have Learned written by Earle F. Zeigler and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-09-05 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What I Have Learned... (or Nonagenarian Natterings) (Trafford, 2012) might be considered a sequel to my Through the Eyes of a Concerned Liberal published in 2004. This sequel explains what I believe about various aspects of life and living (i.e., why I believe what I do; and what I sought to do about it all.) It could prove interesting to anyone facing the same or similar life problems in this crazy world that is becoming more scary as I write these words. What I say here should be easily intelligible-if not agreeable! -to any reasonably intelligent, concerned member of North American society. My historical interpretation laced with philosophical under girding led me to a belief that human civilization must be accepted as an adventure. How could it be regarded otherwise? As a young adult, I entered the realm of life assessment by seeking a purpose for my life. I accepted the philosophical stance known as pragmatism at this point, while seeking to solidify my acceptance of political and social liberalism as guidance throughout my life. I soon discovered the ever-present need to make defensible ethical decisions based on a wise choice of values. This matter was confounded by what I gradually saw as the ever-increasing need to counteract Americas value orientation as the world moves along in the 21st century. To do this I had to be sure that I was on the right track. I did this by finding myself once again through self-evaluation of my philosophic and socio-political stances. Hence, I encourage all North Americans to re-examine their values while embracing a modified form of postmodernism. Finally, I can only hope that America will come to its senses. America must somehow live up to the values it so glibly espouses

Book Planning and Organizing Personal and Professional Development

Download or read book Planning and Organizing Personal and Professional Development written by Chris Sangster and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chris Sangster’s book is a practical, step-by-step guide to personal and professional development that covers the strategy, techniques and philosophy behind the process. Lifelong learning, the shift from trainer-centred delivery to learner-centred development and the opportunities provided by new technologies, place considerable onus on individuals to take responsibility for their own learning. This guide will help trainers and facilitators to enable learners to do just that. There are, at least, three different participants involved in any meaningful and sustainable process of personal development at work - the learner, his or her line manager and mentor(s), and the training (or development support) function. Chris Sangster provides a route map for each of these three roles. He offers a simple, compelling triangular model to illustrate the interaction of each and places particular emphasis on ’learning outcomes’ - as opposed to inputs, focusing attention and objective measurement on learning that manifests itself through application, achievement and changes in behaviour. Whether you are looking for a complete and holistic process for developing your people or a highly readable guide to unravelling the myths of development - such as the confusion between personal and professional development - this book has it all.

Book Handbook of Vocabularies

Download or read book Handbook of Vocabularies written by 589 and published by Chandan Sukumar Sengupta. This book was released on with total page 1122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is prepared in continuation with previously five workbooks of same category. It will provide some additional study materials for fellow aspirants. Regular practice along with some additional inputs in terms of guided aids is provided for the purpose of self-evaluation. One can evaluate skills by cross checking replies. Types of questions asked in exams are of similar pattern. Contents, in some cases, may differ. These materials are collected from our daily use of English. It would be better if fellow students start talking in English in a group made up of few of the selected friends working in a closed user group. It would be more convenient if such group start interacting through electronic media and through other suitable means. Another fruitful initiative will be following electronic media, news channels, analytics and other sources of information and views so as to collections of vocabulary will be increased. Collection and use of new words will definitely increase the grasping of students on the process of writing and representation of facts in speech. One can even aspire for an enhancement in the linguistic skill by following stories and compositions made by famous authors. Initiatives of any kind will be accepted and quantified in accord to the coverage of selected areas of competencies. The related fields of studies are linked together in such a way that they cannot be addressed individually through focused study materials. We simply put them in a definite order to link up our efforts to gain linguistic competencies of desired types.

Book The Evolutionary Foundations of Economics

Download or read book The Evolutionary Foundations of Economics written by Kurt Dopfer and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-05-23 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is widely recognised that mainstream economics has failed to translate micro consistently into macro economics and to provide endogenous explanations for the continual changes in the economic system. Since the early 1980s, a growing number of economists have been trying to provide answers to these two key questions by applying an evolutionary approach. This new departure has yielded a rich literature with enormous variety, but the unifying principles connecting the various ideas and views presented are, as yet, not apparent. This 2005 volume brings together fifteen original articles from scholars - each of whom has made a significant contribution to the field - in their common effort to reconstruct economics as an evolutionary science. Using meso economics as an analytical entity to bridge micro and macro economics as well as static and dynamic realms, a unified economic theory emerges.
