Book Progress on the RF Coupling Coil Module Design for the MICEChannel

Download or read book Progress on the RF Coupling Coil Module Design for the MICEChannel written by A. E. White and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We describe the progress on the design of the RF coupling coil (RFCC) module for the international Muon Ionization Cooling Experiment (MICE) at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) in the UK. The MICE cooling channel design consists of one SFOFO cell that is similar to that of the US Study-II of a neutrino factory. The MICE RFCC module comprises a superconducting solenoid, mounted around four normal conducting 201.25-MHz RF cavities. Each cavity has a pair of thin curved beryllium windows to close the conventional open beam irises, which allows for independent control of the phase in each cavity and for the RF power to be fed separately. The coil package that surrounds the RF cavities is mounted on a vacuum vessel. The RF vacuum is shared between the cavities and the vacuum vessel around the cavities such that there is no differential pressure on the thin beryllium windows. This paper discusses the design progress of the RFCC module and the fabrication progress of a prototype 201.25-MHz cavity.

Book Progress on the Coupling Coil for the MICE Channel

Download or read book Progress on the Coupling Coil for the MICE Channel written by M. A. Green and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the progress on the coupling magnet for the international Muon Ionization Cooling Experiment (MICE). MICE consists of two cells of a SFOFO cooling channel that is similar to that studied in the level 2 study of a neutrino factory. The MICE RF coupling coil module (RFCC module) consists of a 1.56 m diameter superconducting solenoid, mounted around four cells of conventional 201.25 MHz closed RF cavities. This report discusses the progress that has been made on the superconducting coupling coil that is around the center of the RF coupling module. This report describes the process by which one would cool the coupling coil using a single small 4 K cooler. In addition, the coupling magnet power system and quench protection system are also described.

Book Progress on the Design of the Coupling Coils for MICE AndMUCOOL

Download or read book Progress on the Design of the Coupling Coils for MICE AndMUCOOL written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Muon Ionization Cooling Experiment (MICE) [1]willdemonstrate ionization cooling in a short section of a realistic coolingchannel using a muon beam at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) in theUK. The MICE RF and Coupling Coil (RFCC) Module consists of asuperconducting solenoid mounted around four normal conducting 201.25-MHzRF cavities. The coil package that surrounds the RF cavities is to bemounted in a 1.4 m diameter vacuum vessel. The coupling coil confines thebeam in the RFCC module within the radius of the RF cavity beam windows. Each coupling magnet will be powered by a 300 A, 10 V power supply. Themaximum design longitudinal force that will be carried by the cold masssupport system is 0.5 MN. The detailed design and analysis of thecoupling magnet has been completed by ICST. The primary magnetic andmechanical design features of the coils are presented in thispaper.

Book Superconductors

Download or read book Superconductors written by Alexander Gabovich and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-10-17 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book includes 17 chapters written by noted scientists and young researchers and dealing with various aspects of superconductivity, both theoretical and experimental. The authors tried to demonstrate their original vision and give an insight into the examined problems. A balance between theory and experiment was preserved at least from the formal viewpoint (9 and 8, respectively). The readers should be warned that many of the problems studied here are far from being solved and are treated on the basis of competing viewpoints. The reason is that such is the state of the art! Science of superconductivity develops rapidly and new unexpected discoveries are expected in the nearest future.

Book Neutrino Factories Superbeams and Betabeams

Download or read book Neutrino Factories Superbeams and Betabeams written by Osamu Yasuda and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2008-02-28 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The workshop has reviewed progress towards the future generation of neutrino oscillation experiments. These experiments will use very intense conventional neutrino beams and novel beams derived from muons or radioactive nuclei. These new facilities will provide a broad research front including muon physics and neutrino scattering experiments. The main technical challenges involve construction of very intense proton beams, targeting, effective capture of produced particles, cooling and ultra-fast acceleration of the resulting muons.

Download or read book Superconductors written by Mergen Balik and published by . This book was released on 2016-09-15 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superconductors are materials that conduct electricity with no resistance. This means that, unlike the more familiar conductors such as copper or steel, a superconductor can carry a current indefinitely without losing any energy. They also have several other very important properties, such as the fact that no magnetic field can exist within a superconductor. Superconductors already have drastically changed the world of medicine with the advent of MRI machines, which have meant a reduction in exploratory surgery. Power utilities, electronics companies, the military, transportation, and theoretical physics have all benefited strongly from the discovery of these materials. Superconductors - Materials, Properties and Applications deals with various aspects of superconductivity, both theoretical and experimental. Some of the technological applications of superconductivity include: the production of sensitive magnetometers based on SQUIDs; fast digital circuits (including those based on Josephson junctions and rapid single flux quantum technology); powerful superconducting electromagnets used in maglev trains; Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) machines, magnetic confinement fusion reactors, and the beam-steering and focusing magnets used in particle accelerators; low-loss power cables, etc.

Book High Temperature Superconductivity 2

Download or read book High Temperature Superconductivity 2 written by Anant V. Narlikar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In contrast to research on the fundamental mechanisms of High-Temperature Superconductivity, in recent years we have seen enormous developments in the fabrication and application of High-Tc-superconductors. The two volumes of High Temperature Superconductivity provide a survey of the state of the technology and engineering applications of these materials. They comprise extended original research papers and technical review articles written by physicists, chemists, materials scientists and engineers, all of them noted experts in their fields. The interdisciplinary and strictly application-oriented coverage should benefit graduate students and academic researchers in the mentioned areas as well as industrial experts. Volume 1 "Materials" focuses on major technical advancements in High-Tc materials processing for applications. Volume 2 "Engineering Applications" covers numerous application areas where High-Tc superconductors are making tremendous impact.
