Book excerpt: Aging and Milieu: Environmental Perspectives on Growing Old is a collection of essays that presents insight into the area of aging-environment research. The book focuses primarily on the physical, phenomenological, cultural, social, and clinical environmental context of an old person. Part I explores alternative conceptions of aging and milieu. The second part discusses the old-person-environment transaction. Part III covers the social context of milieu or the notion of how social relationships mediate and condition the symbiotic relationships between the old person and the physical environment. Gerontologists, sociologists, psychologists, architects, and urban planners will find this book interesting.

Book Doctors in a Strange Land

Download or read book Doctors in a Strange Land written by Leonard David Baer and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2002 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doctors in a Strange Land provides an in-depth analysis of rural America's reaction to, and acceptance of, the international medical graduates who have come to live and work in their towns. Leonard Baer's study draws on case studies of two small, rural communities to identify who the immigrant physicians are and investigate how well they have been received. His research findings reveal complex issues of race, gender, religion, and language that are of great significance to the ongoing national debate about the place of immigrant physicians.

Book Exploratory and explanatory statistical analysis of spatial data

Download or read book Exploratory and explanatory statistical analysis of spatial data written by C.P.A. Bartels and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In September 1977 a "Regional Science Symposium" was held at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Goningen in the Netherlands. The impetus in organizing this symposium was the recent estab lishmen t at the F acuIty of Economics of a group engaged in teaching and research within the field of regional science. The aim of the symposium was to familiarize university members with regional science and to introduce the new group to both the national and international scene. Two separate topics of potential interest to both researchers and policy-makers were selected. The first theme, spatial inequalities and regional development, was chosen because of its central place in regional science. Authors from several disciplines were asked to approach this theme from a general, policy-oriented point of view. This ensured the spotlighting of the various dimensions of spatial inequality and its implications for regional policy. The results of their efforts have been collected in a volume entitled Spatial Inequalities and Regional Development. The second theme focussed on spatial statistical analysis. This branch of statistics is a relatively new one. It is receiving growing attention from researchers in the field of applied regional science. The conference dealing with this topic concentrated on recent research results related to the use of appropriate statistical and econometric methods for analyzing spatial data. The papers con cerned have been collected in another volume, entitled Exploratory and Explanatory Statistical Analysis of Spatial Data.

Book The Mythic Fantasy of Robert Holdstock

Download or read book The Mythic Fantasy of Robert Holdstock written by Donald E. Morse and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-01-10 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robert Holdstock was a prolific writer whose oeuvre included horror, fantasy, mystery and the novelization of films, often published under pseudonyms. These twelve critical essays explore Holdstock's varied output by displaying his works against the backdrop of folk and fairy tales, dissecting their spatiotemporal order, and examining them as psychic fantasies of our unconscious life or as exempla of the sublime. The individual novels of the Mythago Wood sequence are explored, as is Holdstock's early science fiction and the Merlin Codex series.
