Book New Advances and Contributions to Forestry Research

Download or read book New Advances and Contributions to Forestry Research written by Dr. Andrew A. Oteng-Amoako and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Advances and Contributions to Forestry Research consists of 14 chapters divided into three sections and is authored by 48 researchers from 16 countries and all five continents. Section Whither the Use of Forest Resources, authored by 16 researchers, describes negative and positive practices in forestry. Forest is a complex habitat for man, animals, insects and micro-organisms and their activities may impact positively or negatively on the forest. This complex relationship is explained in the section Forest and Organisms Interactions, consisting of contributions made by six researchers. Development of tree plantations has been man’s response to forest degradation and deforestation caused by human, animals and natural disasters. Plantations of beech, spruce, Eucalyptus and other species are described in the last section, Amelioration of Dwindling Forest Resources Through Plantation Development, a section consisting of five papers authored by 20 researchers. New Advances and Contributions to Forestry Research will appeal to forest scientists, researchers and allied professionals. It will be of interest to those who care about forest and who subscribe to the adage that the last tree dies with the last man on our planet. I recommend it to you; enjoy reading it, save the forest and save life!

Book 13 Years of Forestry Research in West Virginia

Download or read book 13 Years of Forestry Research in West Virginia written by George R. Trimble (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S2The Fernow Experimental Forest, a 3,640 acre tract on the Monongahela National Forest, was set aside for the use of this research unit as an outdoor laboratory for studies in managing mountainous forest land. The forest stands here are mixtures of old-growth and second-growth hardwoods dating from around 1905, when heavy cuttings were made. In topography, history of cutting, climate, and variety of species the Fernow Forest is representative of much of the timberland in West Virginia and adjacent states. Though the Fernow Forest has been the main locale of the research program, other studies have been made in other parts of West Virginia, in western Maryland, and in southwestern Pennsylvania. A number of study areas are located on the Monongahela National Forest. And in 1957 an agreement was made to cooperate in forest research with the Union Carbide-Olefins Company on their land near Charleston, West Virginia. Studies are now under way there on a 2,500-acre area known as the Blue Creek Experimental Forest. The program of research at Elkins is concerned primarily with multiple use of forest land. It stresses integrated management studies aimed toward finding practical solutions to problems of managing the timber, water, and game resources of this area. Results from these studies should provide bases for judging compatibility of uses and determining use priorities. The pages to follow present an overall view of the Elkins research program and highlight the more significant results.S3.

Book Advances in Soil Forest Research

Download or read book Advances in Soil Forest Research written by Dr. S. I. Bhuyan and published by Pencil. This book was released on 2022-04-08 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the book: This Book covers different areas of soil characteristics and forest research. Importance is given on enabling the reader to understand the concepts and recent approaches to different areas of soil and forest ecology such as soil health, physical, chemical properties, impact of forest on soils, plant diversity, forest fragmentation, conservation and sustainable development etc. In the modern world, where the soil and forest resources are increasingly threatened, ecologist and conservationist are playing a major role in providing scientific inputs in conservation efforts. Therefore, there has been a need to compile and collate the research findings in these areas and link bio sciences research with soil and forest ecosystem conservation and sustainable development. This book entitled “Advances in Soil & Forest Research” is an attempt in this direction. The volume comprises 3 research investigations contributed by eminent scholars of various fields of soil and forest ecology. The book would be excellent references for researchers, policy makers and practitioners. About the author: Dr. Shafiqul Islam Bhuyan did his M.sc in Botany from Gauhati University and Ph.D from North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology, Nirjuli, Arunachal Pradesh. He is presently the Assistant Professor & Head of Department of Botany, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Adarsha Mahavidyalaya, Behali, Assam. He published 33 research papers in national international journals, 5 books, 7 book chapters and 3 full papers in proceeding. Guide two PhD students. He also serves as Editor and Reviewer of many Scientific Journals.
