Book excerpt: This document has been designed to assist members of a program review team through the process of reviewing a program. The program review process has been designed for judging the effects of the curriculum, instructional methods, and improvement strategies on the students; guiding the development of planned assistance; and providing a model for the school's own self-study process. Chapter 1 describes the methods and procedures of program review, the application of appropriate criteria for judging the schools' instructional program, and the development of proposals for improving the instructional program. Chapter 2 describes a set of criteria for curricular quality and lists precautions for reviewers about applying these criteria to the school program. Book Quality Criteria for Elementary Schools

Download or read book Quality Criteria for Elementary Schools written by California. Office of School Improvement and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because positive changes in a school's capacity to educate all its students are not automatic, the California Department of Education has launched an educational reform model embodied in a School Improvement Plan (SIP). The model is based on student-centered educational standards (quality criteria) to direct the four SIP processes of planning, implementation, self-study, and program quality review. These processes were developed to engage the school community in activities to improve programs for all student populations. This four-part document has been designed to help members of a quality review team conduct a review of elementary school programs. The review process has been designed for judging the effects of the curriculum, instructional methodologies, and effectiveness strategies on the students; guiding the development of planned assistance; and providing a model for the school's own self-study process. Part I describes how the quality criteria can be used for planning and implementing school improvement initiatives at a school site. Part II is the guide for conducting a school's self-study. Part III describes the methodology and procedures of program quality review, the application of the quality criteria to the school's curriculum and instructional program, and the means for developing suggestions in the report of findings and action plans for improvement. Part IV explains program quality review criteria for 14 areas. (MLH)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How good is your school's mathematics program? Test scores can provide some general trend information, but what you--and your students' parents--really need are specifics about the quality of the curriculum, the effectiveness of the instruction, and the school's overall capacity to support mathematics learning. The Mathematics Program Improvement Review (MPIR) is a proven evaluation process focused on standards for high-quality mathematics programs in grades K-12. Based on research into effective program-evaluation methods, the MPIR approach uses multiple data sources to clarify exactly what is working within an individual school's math program and what is not.Author and MPIR developer Ron Pelfrey has used this process to evaluate mathematics programs in more than 300 rural, urban, and suburban schools and has trained hundreds of educators to conduct reviews. Now this handbook makes the MPIR process and its benefits available to everyone. Inside, you'll find guidelines for training review team members and all the materials needed to conduct a review, including* Lists of standards and indicators for the 10 essential components of an effective mathematics program.* Templates for questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observations.* Detailed evaluation rubrics.* Forms for compiling ratings and generating a final report.Whether used as a basis for informal faculty or departmental discussion, to promote best practices in a particular area (such as curriculum or instruction), or to guide a formal program evaluation, this book will help any school or district apply MPIR tools and procedures to bring about positive change in students' mathematics learning.
