Book Extended Program Notes for the Master s Recital of Dylan F Thomas

Download or read book Extended Program Notes for the Master s Recital of Dylan F Thomas written by Dylan F. Thomas and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project paper consists of written extended program notes for a Master's Recital performed in the Spring Semester of 2018. These notes include short biographies about each composer's life and career, a brief introduction to the librettist, a translation of each piece, composer and librettist biographies, and style and performance practices of the selections. The recital was comprised of approximately sixty minutes of music, in six language sets: French, German, Italian, Japanese, English, and Spanish. The style periods explored the late Classical, early Romantic, mid-Romantic, late Romantic, early Twentieth-Century, mid and late Twentieth-Century. The first set featured composers Duparc and Massenet, with Pourquoi me reveillier from the opera Werther completing the set. The second set is the German set. While the Beethoven and Flotow pieces were composed chronologically before the French set, they show the vocal movement toward the Romantic period, both musically and lyrically. The third set is from turn of the century Italy. The verismo movement was the operatic answer to the global artistic shift toward realism and truth on stage, in writing, and in art. The fourth section is the Japanese set. Western culture has had an immense impact on the entirety of Japanese culture itself. One of those influences can be observed in its traditional art song. The fifth set includes two songs in English and one in Spanish. These pieces were included to highlight the contributions of modern American composers that have stayed within the traditionally operatic vocal style as seen through the Verdian archetype. The final selection on this recital was a piece by Agustin Lara (1897-1970). Granada is a popular a Spanish art song written in 1932.

Book Program Notes for Graduate Recital

Download or read book Program Notes for Graduate Recital written by Hsiao-Hsien Shen and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This recital program was selected based on composers who have influenced me over many years. I would like to introduce and perform for the audience works by those composers I have admired since I was very young, and who have influenced me throughout my musical development, and who have made me the pianist I am today. My program includes compositions from the Baroque era to the present day, and includes both original works and arrangements. In the program notes, I use composers' notes, music history, an analysis of the structure of the pieces, and my point of view as a performer/pianist. I wish to help people have more of an understanding of these works by giving some background on the composers and how the pieces were written.

Book A Master s Euphonium Recital and Program Notes

Download or read book A Master s Euphonium Recital and Program Notes written by Nichole Unger and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This master's report focuses on the history, brief analysis, and pedagogy of the four works performed on February 15, 2016 for the author's Master's Recital. The first chapter explains the work Pantomime by Philip Sparke. It contains a short biography of Philip Sparke, an in-depth background on the composition of the work, and a theoretical and pedagogical look at the piece. The second chapter centers on Fantasia by Gordon Jacob. This brief biography will explore Jacob's compositional output and legacy, and the theoretical analysis will focus on his use of chromatics and the interplay between the piano and the euphonium. The pedagogical analysis will focus on performance techniques and practice. The third chapter is devoted to Blue Lake Fantasies, an unaccompanied work for solo euphonium by David Gillingham. The biography will focus on Gillingham's contribution to euphonium repertoire, specifically and the history of where and why this work was written. There will be a concise theoretical analysis followed by a heavily pedagogical analysis, which will break down the performance techniques used in each of the five movements. The final chapter of the report is about David Werden's euphonium arrangement for two euphoniums and piano of Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms by Simone Mantia. This chapter will present a short biography of Mantia explaining his historical significance, a brief theoretical analysis, and a pedagogical analysis that focuses on the duet aspect of this piece.
